I need some help with choosing a material for a bike part that I plan on having 3d printed. Its a bracket that holds the front derailleur and it is attached by four rivets to the frame of the bike. The original part is made of cast aluminum (No idea what type) so I don't know if I should have it printed up in aluminum or go for something stronger since the original part broke. Weight isn't a big concern since the part is so small but it will be exposed to the elements and grime of the road. Any help with material choice would be greatly appreciated.

Is the part under any load? Is the part going to see any physical wear? Is the part supposed to wear instead of wearing on whatever it's holding? Will it be exposed to corrosive elements?

Give us some details here.

Also, it doesn't seem like this part is going to be printed. SLS is somewhat expensive versus just having a solid piece milled. If you're going to go that route why not mill it out of 304 SS or something similar?

It will be under load when shifting. Most of the load will be down along the z axis. The direction is in green.

No physical wear is to be expected since it isn't supposed to move. It is merely a mounting point to attach a moving piece to the bike frame. The piece is circled in blue.

No corrosive elements are expected.

Someone said that having the piece milled would cost a lot and I would probably be better off having it printed.

the strongest material you can print is nylon.
nylon will take any abuse.

but if you don't want to print nylon (because it's nasty stuff) just use abs.

>want to renew varnish of hardwood table
>notice that top is actually a thin layer of wood
>check the bottom, yes seeming hardwood
>say what ever and start removing the top layer
>bam! particle board
But I have to admit fucker did a good job making it look like real hardwood. A thin layer of real hardwood on top and bottom and hardwood sides. I am not sure if it is a legit technique or a scam tactic

It's both. It's a legit technique that's been used to cut costs for many decades and (usually) not an attempt to deceive, but at the same time it's generally not information volunteered by the seller either.

I have a lot of cork, would like to shred it and make cork objects. I only don't know have cork is held together, I've seen on the net that agglomerated cork is held together with polyurethane. Are there other adhesives suited for the job? And what kind of material do you make the mold of? (Or what kind of lining should I use)

What about something like this.

'Cork hot coaster'
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2411889
>>
>>1209308
IIRC Cork is a naturally occurring material, most cork, like your pic related, is just the natural form, lots of modern wine company's use the cork that feels a bit more plastic, I think this is the stuff you are referencing. Sorry, I don't have any info on your actual question
>>
>>1209876
Real cork is made from the bark of cork oaks and holds together naturally. Its cut into shapes. You can glue it together without problems as well. There are probably a lot of cheaper imitations.

Hey, guys, I have found a Gould OS 4100 Oscilloscope (pic unrelated), I think the main problem lays in the power supply of the scope.
Have you any ideas how I could fix it?

And the marked points gave not the described Voltage out.
>>
>>1209223
Well, if there's nothing visibly broken... You check whether the fault is before or after that point. For example, if removing all the loads does not help, it's before the point. You continue this way roughly splitting the problem in half in every iteration, until you find the faulty point. Or, if you're feeling lucky, you make educated guesses and test them.
>>
>>1209221

You probably already did this, but I recently "fixed" a 30 year old scope that would not scan horizontally by pulling all the connectors, spraying with contact cleaner, and putting them back on.

And unfortunately one of the best tools besides your multimeter would be a working scope.

whats the cheapest way to build a structure? say around 1000sq ft. 12ft high-ish
steel? wood? truss roof? flat roof?
essentially for agricultural storage so it doesnt need to be super finishable.

Go to kitset garage website, find list of parts and blueprint. Do the foundation yourself if youre crazy enough and can afford a fuckup.
>>
>>1208579
the term kitset is only relevant down under so no help there. this also doesn't tell me anything about what the cheaper way to build is?
>>
>>1208800
Well I'd see what materials you can get for free locally.. For example if you can get those big tall utility poles for cheap or free. Those would be great to use.

If you got a sawmill near by. Timber frame the shit outta it.

How does one properly maintain a pool? Can it be done by the property owner or do they call in professionals? Where do such professionals learn their trade?

Can a pool be designed so that it cleans and maintains itself through the recirculation system, eliminating work at the price of constantly pumping water?

They've had robots to clean the things for like 200 years now.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automated_pool_cleaner
>>
>>1208476
But do you really need robots? I mean pools have all those drains and openings at water level... Why would it have those things if they don't clean the pool

The bottom water usually isn't turbulent enough to get rocks and other small refuse up to the weir. The circulator cleans the water of microscopic things and surface scum, but doesn't reach far enough down to scrub dirt off the underwater surfaces. Just leave Pic related run during the week and the problem is mostly solved. You'll want to skim leaves during the fall, and occasionally you'll have need to brush parts of the bottom or pull errant animals out. You might want to cover it when not in use, and very rarely you might need to change the water.
To further answer your OP, your local pool supply shop carries test kits and other treatments you will need to keep it safe and pleasant. It's easy to do, like fill test vial 1 with water to line, add 5 drops of reagent A, 15 drops of reagent C, and compare colors to read out pH or chlorine percentage or whatever. Knowing this, if needed, you add treatment to correct according to the capacity of the pool. I'm sure wikiHow's got a book on it.

I live in a small one bedroom apartment. Upstairs unit. 2 windows that slide sideways (not up and down like normal windows) and a sliding deck door. All windows and deck door face the east. Basic window blinds on the 2 windows and thick blinds on the deck door.
The ac takes its sweet ass time to cool the place down. Have 2 Lasko fans that help a lot.

Thinking about getting curtains for the windows but don't know what kind I should get. Any other things I can do to keep cool?

Inb4 foil on the windows or any trashy shit.

Anything that's both thick and white. White will reflect the sunlight (and heat), and the thicker it is the less sunlight will "bleed" through.
>>
Yeah, you want professional grade curtains. I got some made for my townhouse by Lincraft (not sure if they do them anymore - this was over a decade ago).

Anyway, you need the curtains that have "blackout lining". This is a thick coated material that is stitched against the thin curtain fabric.

I'm also thinking that if you have access to the roof space you could shove a heap of pink batts in there?

I know how easy it is for folks to triangulate ones location nowadays. I was wondering if its even possible to make a laptop, smart phone, or any other electronic devices "stealthy" so to speak.
Like how would i make them untraceable/untrackable?

Something I have never been able to find on the Internet: instructions for building a simple mechanical computer. Just a non-electronic thing with switches and logic gates and stuff. Can anybody figure out a way? Should I ask /g/?

Does this mean no electricity or just no integrated circuits?

Either way you will be lucky to build something that can add 23 to 47, much less find a square root.
>>
stop being a fag and google it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_computer

even tho there's no bibliography, there's enough links to keep you occupied for months.

I'm sure a bunch of retards ask dumber shit than this, I'm simply looking for a skinny on why the fuck this faggot can sell screens for a third of market price.
https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Digitizer-Assembly-Including-Instruction/dp/B0732RBP5W/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1500432310&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_nine_browse-bin%3A15284135011

Ifixit and apple both sell the screen and digitizer for 150$. What chinese garbage is my coworker going to blame me for gluing on his edgy fashion statement?

I've fixed phones since the original iphone for quick cash and might do it for a coworker.

You should be fine, some people make amazon bot accounts advertising shit at low prices, then jetting once they give you a fake tracking #. The guy selling what you linked has decent reviews, so you'll probably just get a shitty chink
screen.
