I want to build something potentially useful. I've got ungodly amounts of 2x4s and railroad spikes and I don't know what the fuck to do with them.
I need no furniture, nothing in my house or cabin needs fixing. I already used some of them to redo my deck but I'm still fucking drowning in 2x4s and railroad spikes.
You could make a pretty sweet knife with the rail road spikes.
How did you get a bunch of 2X4s and railroad spikes, exactly?
>>1201573
I found 6 abandoned train cars full of 2x4s and railroad spikes.
My goal is to rewire this salvaged motor, and reuse it as part of a workshop tool. I have little knowledge in this area, and don't know which wires to attach to which.
motor specs.

Looks like it was plugged into a controller board of some type. Is it reversible? If so, you will basically have two hots, a neutral, and a ground (green and yellow wire for sure). Each hot will be for different rotations, clockwise and counterclockwise.
If it is not a reversible motor then I am not sure.
The caps will be for startup and possible for run. It would have helped a lot of you had the rest of the thing it came out of. Also, what RPM and HP is it? It might well not be useful for much. It looks very small but it is hard to tell scale. Maybe 1/6th HP? 1/8th?

This motor came out of a rather old dental examination chair, so it is most likely reversible. You are correct that it is rather small, however in this form I believe it is a linear actuator, so a little force would go a long way. There were two motors in the chair, and two caps, so I assume the caps are only for startup. While I was able to salvage both capacitors, one motor was not able to be taken. I don't know the HP or the rpm, and I can't understand much of what the label says. Thanks

Is there any way I can get those 4 keys working without paying for a new keyboard module?
>>1207241
>figure out it's some sort of issue with the matrix
Dude you don't really want to go there. This is not Hollywood and you are not Keanu Reeves.
Just play along, and act dumb. Ok, you already have that last part down. Just chill. And buy a new laptop and act as if nothing happened. If the guy at Bestbuy asks any weird questions just grab your balls and look up. Like at the ceiling looking up. Hand him the card and keep looking up.
>>1207261
>figure out it's some sort of issue with the matrix
I mean the keyboard matrix, anon. The way the keys are connected, rows and columns, since the keyboard module (apparently) doesn't include any electronics and just gives out the rows and columns via the ribbon cable to the i/o controller
>you're dumb
that's very rude
>>1207266

I NEVER SAID THAT YOU TAKE THAT BACK
I have a nice tabletop. I want to make a sitting to standing desk. I lift so I have no qualms lifting and lowering the tabletop with all the shit myself. Was thinking of just attaching plastic tubes to the underside of the tabletop for a table of sitting height, and when I want to stand, to pick the whole thing up and insert it into more plastic tubes that will provide me with a standing desk. See attached pic.
I realize this is probably a shit idea but I want a standing desk and don't have much money.
>>1207158
I built a standing desk and was amazed at how much it hurts to stand there for a few hours when I can work all day long standing up and walking and climbing ladders and feel great. I've heard other people say this.
Not to discourage standing, but maybe it works better if you combine it with a lot of walking.
I gave up on mine and once per hour I stand up and do a 5 minute workout of some sort.
>>1207160
Try standing on a diy pseudo balance board. That way you constantly sorta move and it actually makes it much easier to stand. I can find a pic if you are interested.
Just to give you guys an update as you may or may not remember.
The tree without roots is making a miraculous recovery. This is after cutting off virtually all the foliage and most of its limb, applying rooting hormone and keeping the thing based with fertilizer.
About one month ago I had to remove this tree from the landscaping. Because it was growing in a rock bed I had to cut away 99% of its roots to free it from the soil. It basically had its main root "tail" and nothing else. Lots of anons said it was going to die, but a few said it could be saved.
This is after extreme pruning. All those leaves have died off but new growths appeared in their place.
I remember you OP, good for you. By the way, that root tail is called the tap root. Did you give it a name or anything? I'm rooting for Woodrow Crabtree personally.
I've looked online for how to buy a custom made 3'5" flag and they're hovering around $150.
My design is two colors only. Would anyone know where to start on making one by hand? I can't imagine it's as expensive to DIY as it is to buy. I was thinking screen printing but I'm open to ideas.
>>1206883
Do you have a sewing machine?
Are you willing to buy a sewing machine? (Mine cost me right around $100.)
A couple yards of cloth won't cost too much.
>>1206883
Just look around. We got several for my company made up. Anywhere from $50 to $240 for us.
>>1206898
Okay, after doing some research I don't think making the actual flag out of cloth will be hard. What I'm worried about is getting the design on the flag. Is screen printing the only way? Here is my design.
I've had this TV for about 2 years and about a 6 months ago I started getting the vertical lines streaking.
That wasn't really that big a deal to me but 2 days ago I got the white boxes that pretty much make the TV unusable. And now iv got this "burn" mark at the the bottom.
Can this be rescued or is it fucked?
>>1206705
>I started getting the vertical lines streaking.
>That wasn't really that big a deal to me
how can you tolerate that shit?
did you drop the tv? open the back up and reseat the cables. i have no idea what that circle at the bottom is.
>>1206734
Started as a single thin line then more showed up over time and the original line seems to have gotten thicker.
Didnt bother me because i still had most of the screen and didnt obscure most of the picture.
Never droped and only ever moved it 5 to no more then 10 feet.
>>1206734
The circle looks distinctly like a coin.
OP, you so crazy.
Any wood-working hobbyists on right now? I have a question about building a wooden fountain.
This is my first time building with wood that will be submerged in water for its entire life time. I'd like to use a good Black Locust wood or Yew wood. I chose this because of their natural resistance to rotting.
But, there is a difference between building a deck that will occasionally be rained on, and building a pool of water that wood will sit inside.
To add to the difficulty, the person I'm building this for wants to have fish and a small aquarium inside. So whatever I do to the wood, it needs to be completely non-toxic.
So my questions are this. With the wood I chose;
-How long would this wood be expected to last if it was 100% untreated? IE I simply carve my design and give it to them.
-How long will it take to show signs of warping, rot, and damage?
-How long is it expected to last since it will be submerged in water?
-Would a natural wax coating from bees or some source help offset the degradation of the wood without harming fish and any animals that may try and drink from the fountain? If so, what should I be looking at?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
>pic semi-related
>>1206700
Does it need to be wood, or just look like wood? That could simplify things greatly.
Other than that, I think teak is used for some boats because of its natural resistance to rotting, and cedar is pretty good as well, but I've got no experience with this level of water.
Or you could get bar top epoxy and slather on a thick layer over whatever wood you need, which would make the water pretty irrelevant.
Boil it in wax or oil.
There is a technique called Oil Heat Treatment.

This might be a bit basic for here, but I don't know where to get any advice.
Will a good inline fan bring in enough fresh air to cool and ventilate the room?
I have had a loft conversion done and have moved my bedroom up there. There was planning issues from the start (the neighbours complained about the windows being added for some reason), so I only have one large velux window that also doubles as an emergency exit, but there is no other vents apart from a small exhaust in the ensuite.
If I added two inline fans facing the bed area and dressing area and a passive exhaust vent near the bathroom will I see some returns in cooling??
If not, does anyone have any advice other than air con. The refusal of planning also stated they would fight that as well.... And yes I will be wholly litigious if and when they go from any planning.
This is a quick shitty sketch of the room.
The green would be the powered inlines and the blue would be the passive exhaust
>>1206600
The fuck are you talking about? Why does everyone on /diy/ want air conditioning without an A/C?
Just use ceiling fans or wall fans to circulate air. Otherwise, a portable unit is your only option for sub-outside temps. I'm assuming you can't put a window unit in an emergency window. If you don't have somewhere else in the "property" (cuckshack) to mount a minisplit external unit then you're out of options.
If you just want air movement those big blower fans will work, but they're loud and consume power like crazy. Plus, if you can install and vent it properly then you can do a minisplit.
>>1206615
And just to clarify, I'm assuming you're talking about a draft inducer. Google that.
Did the other thread die?
btw that blade might be the best bang for buck out right now
What mitre are you using, it any good (and cheap)?

>>1206361
Thats not very cheap at all. Can you reccomend one thats fairly light, can cut a 2x4, does accurate angles and will last a lifetime?
I dint care about sliding shit.
Picked up this set from peavy Mart today for a little over 100 bucks! After using the Canadian tire brand and hating it because the battery would slip off I decided to try something from the big 3, Did I just totally waste my money or get a good find?
>>1206176
How many batteries did ya get? That's what it all boils down to.
Also:
>12V
It's really 10,8V, mate.

If I might add another question - why a recipro saw? I've always seen it as the pikiest of pikey tools.

Have flyers printed up and post them all over town describing what you will do for $5.
I need an airfoil for a project that im starting about making a homemade ultralight. The chord line of the wing must be from 90 cm to 1m at least. Thanks for any help you can give me.
>>1205795
>Thanks for any help you can give me.
You're welcome.
>>1205795
are you designing a plane from scratch? unless you have a good amount of experience id recommend going off of one of the many good ultralight designs, the legal eagle xl is one of the cheapest and my favorite
>>1205795
I'd suggest a flat bottom airfoil with some thiccness to it for structural reasons.
Brand new Raspberry Pi with brand new SD card won't boot, are these two bent looking pins to blame?
>>1205687
Do you even have the system on the card?
And no the pins are ok.
>>1205689
Yes I tried Win 10 first, then NOOBS when it didn't work. All that's connected is the SD card, HDMI monitor, and power. All I get is the red light
RPi 3 switched to a friction fit SD slot.
Older Pi have a spring in the SD socket.
Those 2 bent looking pins are part of friction socket and look to be 100% fine. Did you load NOOBS? Is your HDMI cable plugged in and is your TV not a weird TV? Do both lights come on when you boot it?
Anyone used Amazon Home Service? Is this how we win the war against shitty contractors?
>>1205652
Probably not? Just use Angie's List. Also, don't cheap out and hire someone just because the price is good. Research, research, research.
>>1205652
Not likely. Source: got contractor from Amazon Home Service, contractor fucked up the job (connected softener opposite), in the process of getting money back from them now. (not easy)
>>1205708
I thought you pay Amazon?
