Well, i'm back to my parents house.
And this is my setup, for now at least.
And Im in no good to make it better.
Anyway, ideas how improve it somehow?
What projects are you working on? What's your long term goal for the house (besides selling it)?
>be me
>neighbors built fence along their property 20 years ago
>I bought my house 8 years ago
>looking at records and satellite data, their fence is 10 feet over my property line, eating up around 500 sq ft of back yard.
>do I hire a lawyer? Is it worth it? They'll fucking hate me if I make this a legal thing
>should I just let bygones be bygones?
Halp
You're asking us if you should be a man and grow a pair? Of course I'm not letting a fucking neighbor take 500 sq ft of property I pay taxes on.

Repainting, deciding on a new front door, waiting for some custom interior shutters to arrive, slowly replacing all the wire shelves with wood ones, trying to develop some more coherence in decor.
I don't actually own the house, but long term goal is to inherit it after it's upgraded mostly on someone else's dime. Well on track.
>>1211481
>slowly replacing all the wire shelves with wood ones
painters will love you. closets suck. wire shelves suck. all shelves suck, but if they are wood and you can lift them up and remove them then you can paint the fucking closet.

New pc. Anyone have any survival infograph etc packages you might want to share? Thanks.
>>1211395
>survival
If you don't know how to back up your shit and avoid losing it every time you change PCs, I don't think survival infographs would be much good in your hands.
>>1211397
I couldv but I didnt. Stop shitposting.

You are a special kind of idiot. go die somewhere retard prepper
Hey /diy/ers, I'm planning on making a dueling tree for shooting, mainly 9mm and .45, maybe .223 as well. The AR500 plates are stupidly expensive, but i dont want to get covered in lead and copper shrapnel either. I was hoping to get some scrap 3/8" or 1/2" mild steel plate and torching out the targets, then heat treating them myself. Any advice on this other than getting them hot as shit and chucking in some liquid? What do you guys use for targets?
Would it be better to get other hardened steel scrap like hardox to begin with? All i have for cutting is a gas axe and would be worried about messing with the temper and ruining the targets quickly.
>>1211208
This. Start with hardened steel and don't fuck with the temper.
>>1211207
Quench it in mineral oil. Be sure you have actual mineral oil and not Kerosene. They have the same name in European
What can I make with this?
a clock

You can give yourself cancer with the radioactive source inside that smoke detector.
Anyone here every try making their own sodas? Picture of some syrups I made that mostly went to waste. I'm just getting back into making soda and actually trying to carbonate now. Any tips or recipes? I'm only attempting to make a max of 4 liters at a time. Today's recipe in comments
So over the last 2 days I worked on an apple pie soda. Started by adding 9 quartered red delicious apples to a stockpot. Threw in some allspice, cinnamon, and sugar and boiled it for an hour and simmered for 2 before straining it into a pitcher and chilling over night
>>1211108
For the soda, I made a simple syrup dissolving 2 cups of cane sugar with 1/4 cup of water, bringing to a boil. I then added a tsp of vanilla extract and 2 cups of water. Brought it to a boil then added 2 cups of the cider. After cooling it i added 1/8 tsp yeast mixed with a cup of water. Poured it in two 2 liter bottles and topped them off with water.
>>1211109
Before adding the yeast and cider, I tried the syrup mixture with my soda stream. About 1/4 cup of syrup and 1/2 cup of cider. Turned out decently but the spice overpowers the sweetness. Not so much an apple pie taste as it is a carbonated sweet cider. Next time I'll try adding brown sugar and actual vanilla bean
Going to make a PVC pipe kayak trolley but accidentally (and drunkenly) ordered way too much PVC pipe. So what can I do with the extra 4.35m of 65mm diam PVC pipe? Pic related is something I found on the internet, might be a good idea but would probably look tacky and won't use up a lot of the pipe.
I hear you can make a kayak trolley with it.
>>1211099
Cheers lad, wish I'd thought of that

I got to haul away a cabinet maker's stash of wood for free on condition that I take all the pieces. It's a few hundred pounds of woods of different colors and species. Also a few pieces of plywood and crap that I haven't fully sorted out yet.
Wat do? most of the pieces are too small to do anything with, so barring any good ideas it's going to be used for fuel in bonfires. Do you think this would be good for making homemade charcoal?
What do you do with scrap wood?
>>1210978
You can practice joinery, jewelry boxes, marquetry, make miniatures, doll houses, doll house furniture, that sort of thing.
>>1210978
I use scrap to replace fences and do test cuts.
Have seen folks glue them up and turn them, make spoon holders, pot holders, etc.
>>1210978
Don't burn treated wood. Burning the chemicals release worse chemicals. Polluting, toxic, etc.
At least stay away from the smoke, and don't cook with it.
I have a friend who can't move his lower leg. His walking is reduced to an awkward shuffle that put loads of strain on him.
I want to come up with a sort of leg brace that, when he lifts up his thigh, it bends his knee, and when he puts his thigh down, it stretches the knee out, essentially mimicking the movement he can't do.
I figure this could be accomplished through some ingenious gear-and-strap system without the need for motors, but I'm not sure on the details. Any ideas, guys?
Tell him to man up and follow a squats and oats routine.
>>1210960
Yeah, because permanent damage can be fixed with that.
He was in a car accident.
>>1210957
key is how does it know when to bend?
you need a reference
one option is keep the shin parallel to the body.
take a hint from how e.g. a desk lamp works.
consider a parallelogram. pick one pair of opposite sides. this is the thigh. one other side is the torso, side opposite is the shin.
now if you anchor the torso and adjust the angle between the torso and thigh to mimic lifting the leg you see the shin is kept parallel to the torso.
check out parallelogram 4 bar linkage.
Hello, newfriend here, coming from /r9k/. Just ordered this:
http://victoryshipmodels.com/ship-model-endeavour-longboat-wooden-static-kit-artesania-latina-cook-boat.html
I've never done any ship modeling. What to expect? I'm kinda new to /diy/ in general.
Vehicle modeling thread I guess

Monitoring, I want to get into small scale wooden models as well. I'm trying to find a realistic way to prototype furniture and a small living space.
I've always have doubts about tiny woodworking, I'd assume that you can only use tight-grained wood like boxwood, right?
>>1210756
Aquire VERY sharp craft/hobby knives, a decent steerlruler your mesurements are going to need to be exact, quality PVA white or yellow (yellow is beter they say)pegs and maybe elastic bands for clamping and sewing pins come in handy too, a few grades of fine/very-fine sand/aluminium-oxide paper, you may end up maybe making a few tools of your own also etc
Also a fine-tooth hacksaw or moddler saw
Expect the instructions to tell you what to do but not how to do it.
A little woodworking knowlege will go a long was but it's not essential
Expect to passively brush up on you ship/riging terminology
Be as exact as you can with your measurements/cutting/trueness ESPECIALLY when you first start the hull, the begging of the hull are the foundation for your entire model, A wonky badly build hull = a bad build later on
Expect to read up moddling tips on forums
Expect to soak wood in water overnight, clamp the to the hull (rubber bands/pegs/pins)to keep its shape overnight as it dries and then glue and reclamp, i'm looking a those two dark bits of wood on the Hull going from bow to stern, take your time with them they can be a pain.
Don't rush, expect to do only one thing per day and put the model aside as glue dries BE PATIENT
Work on only when you feel like
Think ahead, dont affix somethign that may get in your way that you can attach easilly at a later time in the build
They're not hard if you're patient and understand what you need to do, pic related was/is my first build, still not finished, rigging etc etc, I scrapped many parts and built my own and own variations such as with redesigned cabin-hatch with little door (original was a die cast one and looked bad) the rear decoration of the boat, lots of little bits I made my own versions of, as I said the supplied ones were die-cast and had bad moldings etc, basically they just looked shit.
Still lots of rigging/sails to do
Dumping a few pics of poor camera quality
Hello.
I want to build myself a Minimoog clone. Ive seen other clones online, and I wanted to know if someone could link good resources on them. I've read that there are schematics and all online, but I dont know if I just can build it and it works. It probably wont. I would be happy if someone could link resources and maybe share own experiences with diy synth building.
Have a good day!
>>1210740
>I dont know if I just can build it and it works.
With modern opamps and such you can probably follow a recipe.
Every time I re-watch Clockwork Orange I'm astounded at how perfect Walter Carlos was. Wait, did I say Walter? I mean Wendy, as "she" is now known. See kids, transgender people have been around for a long time, doing wonderful things, like winning the Olympic decathlon while dreaming of having a vagina some day.

>That was so non-sequitur my head is spinning
thanks. It's my job, and I do it well.
What are the essentials for basic maintenance?
>hex keys
>degreaser + lube
>WD40
>cradle for taking off tires
>wrench set
What else?
>>1210708
>What else?
This might get more answers in the gay board for cyclists.
You might need a spoke tightener but then you need to learn how to use it so that the wheel is better when you are done and not ruined.
I don't know about bikes that much, but a thin coating of pic related on screw threads means that the nut will pretty much never seize. Just wipe all the excess off so nobodies dayglow leotard gets messy.
>cassette lock ring removal tool
>chain whip
>cable cutters
>cable stretcher
>chain tool
>length of pipe of the appropriate size to hammer on the crown race to front fork (pvc with some duct tape to reinforce the end works in a pinch). You need to do this whenever you switch to a different front fork on the bike.
>wheel truing stand (this can be diy'ed easily)
>spoke wrench
>tire pump and pressure gauge that will work with both styles of valve
>tube patch kit
>square taper and isis/octolink crank pullers for removing the crankset and servicing the bottom bracket
>bottom bracket wrench
Not totally essential for general repair but a must for doing builds: bearing press. can be diy'ed with a threaded rod, nuts, and some big washers
That's the main stuff. The really annoying part about bike maintenance and assembly is the ridiculous quantity of specialized tools you wind up needing to buy along the way. It's worse than car maintenance. Oh, you have particular brand bike from particular year? You need this OTHER special tool because fuck you.
>>1210739
also pipe cutter if you need to change forks. and some steering tube spacers.
Hey /diy/ I usually do everything myself, but in cases where that's not an option, like large projects I want done quickly or things requiring a license like HVAC, what criteria do you use to avoid having subhuman ex-con retards on your property where they can rip you off and case the joint?
>>1210550
>what criteria do you use to avoid having subhuman ex-con retards on your property
You can't avoid that. Hire a contractor with a good reputation and he will handle the subhumans.
Every now and then some retarded homeowner will ask my boss for background reports on his workers, and he talks them out of it. It's funny how the most paranoid idiots will be letting us have the run of the house after the second day.
If you have to stand around and watch them then you should just do the work yourself even if it takes you two years to do a three day job.
If hes black send him back

unironically this desu
Niggers are usually too dumb to plan shit out in advance and pay enough attention when doing hard work.
hey /diy/
I would like to make a tabletop from OSB.
idealy I'd like to pour something on top to level everything out and make it cleanable.
something translucent with a tint would be cool.
I'm pretty sure this could be done with a epoxy resin , but are there any alternatives ?
>>1210543
piece of glass or polycarbonate
>>1210544
I think I would really appreciate if the edges were one piece.
I imagine putting a piece of glass on top would probably be pretty visible due to the varying height of the OSB
>>1210581
you are asking for magic, for what you are trying to achieve, there is only so many ways to create the effect other than epoxy it
>at my new painting job
>painted for 1.5 years
>lesbo female foreman constantly on me for literally microscopic "errors" that the homeowner will never notice in the grand scheme of things
>talks about the "best painters dont do XYZ"
>I'm literally living in poverty, dont give a crap about being the best
How do you deal with this type of shit?
>>1210335
