How far can you get with making electronics from scratch before you have to buy parts(such as integrated circuits)?
Pic somewhat related.

You can make ICs from scratch.

Question too vague.

You could literally mine/refine/build all the required materials and equipment starting from nothing but your scantily-clad body (a la Primitive Technology) if you wanted.

It's in no way PRACTICAL, but it's technically possible.

I made an iPhone.

well actually I'm still wroking on it.

I'll post pics with updates.

I bought a house and there was this waist high fence like thing that I took out.

Unfortunately when I took out the post, there's a little 4 by 4 hole in the floor.

How do I fix it? I had a slab of wood covering it but that's a temporary fix.

Pic related, it's my hole.

With another piece of fucking wood
>>

Thanks I can't believe I hadn't thought of that
>>
>>1213194

Then if you did, why the hell make this thread? DO you think someone is going to have alien technology that can tell you an unconventional way to fix a relatively simple thing?

Add ledge on opposite side, cut out plywood, to fit.

Is your next thread going to be about how to change your oil or hang a picture of your waifu?

Can any anons identify this fuse? It's some 15 amp 125v shit but the guys at the hardware store said they have never seen it before . I need one but I have no clue how to find it.
18 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I think I found them but the ones I found are for 250v, can a 250v version replace a 125v one or will it fuck my shit up?
>>
>>1212708
Voltage doesn't matter, amperage matters. Find one of similar size with same amp rating and you're good. Doesn't matter if it's white or glass or whatever. They all blow the same.
>>
>>1212728
Let me rephrase this for the elitist crowd who will be here soon since I bumped this:
As long as your fuse is rated above the voltage your putting through it, it will be fine. I'm guessing it has to do with heat generated causing the fuse to blow prematurely, but that's irrelevant. A 250v 15a fuse will blow with 240v above 15 amps, 120v above 15 amps, 12v above 15amps, etc.

Furniture with the welds grinded down.

Does anyone know why there is a growing trend of people just grinding/sanding their welds down to bare steel and leaving it, not powder coating or oil heating it black again?

Has that 'industrial' look. Not putting something like a matte polyurethane coating on it means it's going to rust eventually. Not the look most people are after.

Architect thought corten steel counters would look 'cool' in a coffee shop near me. Counter now has rust rings where coffee cups have been set.

Anyone know much about cooling fan setups? I'm trying to put together a portable method of circulating air in my dorm room (portable meaning capable of being put in a carry-on). I've been considering grabbing some Ac Infinity fans and just sticking them by a window, but I'm having a little trouble deciding which to go for. If there is a better alternative to this that I am completely missing I am open to suggestions.

So who pays you to make these threads? Or is it rewarding in some other way?

Post a time-stamped photo of your dorm room. Of course, trolls can certainly reside in dorm rooms, but it would be a start.
>>
I'm not there yet and this is just the fan I was told to try from a friend. I have a picture of the floorplan if that helps. Currently using a honeywell to cool a space thats roughly 1600 cubic feet which would be great to take with but can't really fly with that. Satisfied I'm not some sponsored idiot now?
>>
>>1212798
So when you say "capable of being put in a carry on", it is because you actually intend to fly with this thing?

Why?

Hey /diy/, first time poster on this board
i bought a savings tin can similar to pic related, and i'm trying to find a way to make them "reusable", as in, opening the tin to take the money out whenever needed, then closing it again
has anyone come up with a method to do so? or did i just buy an empty tin to waste later on?

Is this one of those threads someone else referred to, where the OP asks a detailed but off-the-wall question?

OP, post a time-stamped photo and we'll help you with this life-changing problem.

what do people actually do with these shitty money boxes? they seem only good if you're teying to kick smoking or drinking. open it with a can opener. glue a hing on it so it opens up and down, drill a hole on the other side in the lid and top if the container so you can put a lock through it.

Does the "safer" stuff really work? I'm seeing green and yellow growths on my bathtub tile and it keeps coming back, even started turning black once on the grout until I use vinegar. But the green and yellow never go away for good it seems.

Burn them with oxygen and create steam? About 280 kJ/mol Energy production

What is wrong with the following
>get 50mm brushless motor
>put in bottom bracket of bike frame
>power it with 18650s
>fixed 10 tooth sprocket on motor
>22 tooth in back
>approximately 45 mph at 10000 rpm
>under $100

potential problems
>motor too hot
use water cooled motor with simple cpu cooler radiator loop
>not enough low end torque
possibly use 2 gears and a more robust tensioning system

why can I not find any reference to anyone trying this?
What is wrong with this?

guy on thingiverse printed some pully-based ebike using a brushless motor
>>
>>1212105
This is a pretty common project, if you do the math you should get a reasonable idea of how the system performs before committing dollars to build it.

The brush-less hub motors tend to be more popular because they are easy to use. Mounting an RC brush-less motor securely to the frame isn't trivial.

How do I make the most of a fan motor. What type of blade gives the most thrust? I need it to blow as hard as it possibly can.

Thank God, I hate the taste of cummies that aren't daddy's

i have a 24v drill battery that wont hold charge for more than 10 minutes, i dont have any spare cells, how do i check the cells and can i remove them without replacing them? i.e convert the battery to a lower voltage

>>
>>1211932
i tested the battery with multimeter and it seems to hold about 16v
>>
take it all apart. assuming it's nicd or nimh cells, a dead cell will show approx 0V after the motor has run down, whereas a healthy one will be around 1.2V. replace the 0V ones, and you should get a few weeks or months of use until one or more old cells decide to kick he bucket. then repeat until you've replaced them all.
total replacement cost will be just shy of the price of a new drill.
it'll be cheaper if you order directly from China, but you never know what you're gonna get.
>>
>>1211932
You'll have to take it apart and check each cell individually with a multimeter.

DESU, just replace all the cells at the same time. Running a battery pack with unbalanced cells makes all the cells burn out faster.
