I'm looking to build a motor boat. Nothing crazy, just a utility boat, it just needs to hold one or two people and some supplies, like gas cans and so forth, and drive around a lake.

A boat frame (or hull or whatever you call it) goes for, oh, 500 bucks on craigslist. Same for the sort of motor I'm looking for, single digit horsepower. Given that, I'm assuming an ideal budget of about 1200 or so.

As you've probably guessed I'm completely ignorant as to what the rest entails. What are the details I'm missing here? Is anything I'm considering here an incredibly bad idea for one reason or another?

I bought a house on the cheap, that I intend to renovate. My plan is to put up sheet rock up, but I digress. I found pic related, and I'm not sure that I can just throw it away. I know that it was probably just the result of a good meth binge and I'm not very artistic but this must have taken several hours to complete. Has anyone else found anything interesting while renovating?

I have a room the door needs to be kept closed in all the time. The room has one window and one door. How can I most efficiently rig my room to suck in the cooler air from the hallway, and blow the hot air out the window? Would just having a window fan work enough to do this, or do I need something more complicated?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1209451
I've neatly and properly installed a through-vent in a door that didn't have much ventilation. I just measured the center of the width, determined how high up I wanted it and cut it through with a jigsaw. Put a vent cover on both sides; airflow, just like a cold air return.
>>
>>1209471
I'm gonna have to be more subtle about it unfortunately. I'm in a shitty living situation where I can't just put in a window ac, but apparently a fan is allowed. Trying to basically steal the cool air from the rest of the house without having anything visible except the window fan.
>>
>>1209480
Putting a vent in the door seems somewhat viable. How else would you be able to pull in air? You can't just magically make it go appear, you have to create an area where it can flow through. On top of that the efficient way is to bring the cold air in and trap it in the room. A box fan would just pull it in, and push it all out. Just get one of those ac units that's on wheels and sits in your room.

Or move out of mom's house and get an apartment with central heating and cooling.

why are you using usb for audio instead of just taking audio from the miniav
do you have any idea what you are fucking doing
all you need is something with buttons (like a usb keyboard), something to connect the hdd (or ssd as pictured) to the raspi or a different sbc with sata, then any audio player with keybinds
if you want to use the cars controls then good luck, you might have bluetooth control if you're lucky

Jesus.

Just.... dont.

There is a laindry list of shit such as people u dont know like HVAC or construction compa ies having a charge against the property for failure to pay.

Assholes in my state have 2 FUCKING YEARS to pay back taxes AFTER a sale and reposes YOUR new home no matter what u spebt fixing it up. It's a popular scam i am told. Then the cocksuckers sel it for 10 times what they had in it and yar fucked.

Oh yeah, and be sure to hold onto it for 1 year and 1 day or else u get hit with the capital gains tax of %30 or so of the sale price. This is AFTER you bought the mutherfucker and paid sales tax already.

Just dont.

Flipping is a gamble for the rich and these faggot home and garden ahows are fake ass reality tv.

I am warning u.

Theses are Tax Forfeitures, not foreclosures.

Foreclosures are bank owned because you didn't pay your mortgage.

Tax Forfeitures are properties that the local government took from the owner because they didn't pay property taxes.

You can get a hell of a deal on a tax forfeiture, but usually the owner didn't pay the taxes for a reason.

Things to note:
If they couldn't afford to pay property taxes for a few years, they probably couldn't afford to pay to keep the place in repair.

One common cause for these is the person dying and the kids or whoever inherited the place, not paying the taxes because they forgot.

You have to pay all the back taxes on the property when you buy it so you better make sure it's not going to be an extra 20k you didn't plan for.

You can't get a mortgage on them. Cash or short term loan only. So basically if you don't have cash to drop on them, you can't play.

You will often run into the previous owner squatting and you will have to go through the eviction process. Contrary to what people think, this isn't telling them to get the fuck out or as anon often suggests, just pointing a gun at them. It's a legal process that takes months.

As far as the flipping part. If you're not a skilled tradesmen or know some who will work for free, it's not happening. Sure you can /diy/ some shit, but if you're buying a dump and do it all by yourself, it will take years.

I want to make a gas powered bike like in the pic. Asking price from the manufacturer is $3600 USD for a 49 cc bike.

How can I make an offroad capable, gas powered bike on a budget?

>>

Define 'budget.'
There are literally dozens of forums dedicated to this, you'll get better answers than here.
A lot of the stuff on the motoped you posted is either for downhill mountain bikes or is custom fabbed for the company.
I fucked around with a gas bike for a while, realized it was a MASSIVE waste of effort, and bought one of pic related and restored it from the ground up.
It cost me a total of about $800, and that included a brand new engine, carb, yadda yadda.
Look for old pedal mopeds. For real. Be forewarned though, if you live where there's a sizable hipster population, the prices will be inflated.
>>
Wait shit.
I didn't see you said off road capable.

i suggest asking at the cigar store, but the basics are:
1] aqure a classy looking pipe
2] aquire pipe tobacco
3] put tobacco in the pipe, light it while sucking on mouth peice
4] dont suck smoke in to your lungs, just like it is with cigars, only in the mouth
5] enjoy the taste
6] blow out
7] repeat except the lighting part, the tobacco will stay on for a longer time

how can fix the gaps in my cutting board, it needs to be non toxic
36 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>1208073
A wooden cutting board by nature is toxic due to it's porous surface.
>>
>>1208081
Exactly, that's why butchers have been using wooden blocks for centuries.

Oh wait.

In this case, it's the ounce of prevention vs a pound of cure. If that is your cutting board in the OP, you're fucked, get a new one. Plastic doesn't require routine maintenance, wooden blocks need to be oiled regularly and never left to sit in water, but they can last longer than plastic if you get a good one and take care of it.
>>
>>1208073
That's beyond repair and frankly if you don't constantly have the shits from cutting on that you sir are a medicinal miracle

Lets talk about rebuilding old houses. Pleawe share your projects. Ill just start with my project: I have this old farmers house with an orchard in mind. 125k. The roof and water had already been redone professionally. Wall insulation is non existant. Windows are new. Most generic houses here start at 300k. I worked construction before and layed carpet. I am a decent woodworker and did most basic stuff around the house, like electricity etc.

So, I'm building this boat and it's a pain. As of right now I have that pink foam that you use for insulation as the pontoons. The problem is that is doesn't have near enough boyancy. It's about neutral right now as in it will float on its own but as soon as you add weight it starts to sink. Anyone here have any ideas as to how I can give this thing a LOT more boyancy, I want it to float with me and another person and our fishing gear. It also has the deck boards on it which I'll take pic of here in a bit.

lurk craigslist and buy some of the big blue water barrels. seal them with epoxy and tie under your frame. also rebuild your frame from wood.

buy a marine net and fill with empty water/ soda/ plastic bottles. tie the net filled with empty bottles under your frame. also rebuild your frame from wood.

buy some canvas and grommet kit. buy more foam. layer foam 8 thick, wrap in canvas, install grommets to cinch it all together like a shoelace and tie to your frame. also rebuild frame from wood.
>>
>>1207085
Why rebuild frame from wood? What benefits do I get other than structural integrity which isn't too bad right now? It's pretty sturdy. I thought about those blue barrels though. Either that or adding a shit ton of foam to to the pontoons and making them a whole foot taller. I'll fiberglass them eventually but the resin is pricey for the good stuff

I liked the idea in an article in Popular mechanics that we are hardwired to identify, acquire and utilize tools - and that crucially allowed us to evolve.

So it is literally in the nature of man to love tools.

Remove the inner lighter. Put the case in a tied off sock or something with a handful of coins. Put the sock in the dryer with no heat and tumble it for hours and hours until it looks suitably shitty.

put it down in your drive way and then back your car over it. if it's any good it will still work and you can sell it to a hipster for at least $5.
