ok op here is how you make a container into an underground bunker.

1) buy 9 containers
2) fill all the outer containers with concrete
3) cover the entire thing with a concrete slab formed around reinforcing bars
4) bury it
5) drill access hole

Sounds like your sink plumbing vent it is blocked. It happens. The P-trap in your drain is preventing the gas from getting into your bathroom (good) but the gas is unable to vent because the vent is plugged (bad). When you run the water gas sneaks in past the P-trap. Running a snake from the roof down the vent stack can clear it, but it can be tricky if its not a strait shot.

My gut told me to say check your vent as I was reading, and then I got to the part where you said you'd heard a vent can cause this. So have you checked the vent? Also, how many drains use this vent and what diameter is it? It's possible the plumber installed one that is too small.

I live in a condo, so am not able to do it. I did ask the people who live below me if they had the same problem and they said no. But they probably didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

the inside is probably rusted to fuck anyway. as a rule whenever i touch steel plumbing i just start replacing shit. trying to keep the old stuff often just leads to headaches, more trips for parts and just a much longer/harder job in general.

What wood depends on preference really, you can use any wood. Soft wood is easier to work with and cheaper but is soft. Hard wood is nicer. The quality is the price.

Well given this is a diy board, why don't you look for a wireless ip camera that has IO ports and rig your own doorbell. Most Axis cameras have onboard IO, two-way audio and a fairly decent api.

depends what you actually want, there is a number of systems where the doorbell acts like a IP phone (you can run a DIY PBX out of an old PC) and the camera is ONVIF capable, so you can connect it to a surveilance system.

But they aren't exactly cheap and quality does scale with price. Really neat though, the doorbell dials a phone, if nobody picks up, it can dial a different one and the ONVIF camera means it's easy to have it record onto a server.

Its just has to be a means of controling an electric lock and properly identifying the person at the door. Now video is a nice feature and all, but this is a summer house with big walls and a crappy router. The more I look into it the more it seems to me the easiest way is just to get a radio based unit with no video, if what you want is wireless cheap performance. No. As concrete sinks and tries to level it will lift the PVC unless it is also filled.

Why cut pipe in half? Buy a length of PVC guttering and use that. Dig your trench, drop the pvc in and pour concrete in around it. You will have to span timber over it to stop it from lifting. Make sure you use a relatively wet mix to fill all voids.

You are probably looking at using a 24 litre cooler, most of those tend to be about 16"x16"x10" (H, W, D), there will be some minor variation between brands but you should be safe enough with a 24.

Those things are expensive for a reason.

I'd consider making something like pic related. You're not going to be able to fiddle with it constantly, but you will be able to adjust it.

I just use a standing height desk and a drafting chair (any tall adjustable chair works) for when I want to sit down. Much simpler.

Depends on what kind of bulb you use.

Incandescent bulbs can really put off a lot of heat.
Your glass bottle wont care, your metal cap wont care, your fixture wont care.

But there is a chance the bottle will get hot enough to be a problem for your desk.
I have a half sized appliance sized incandescent bulb on my mini drill press, and it makes the body of the drill press get HOT. Ive been trying to replace it its so bad.

It wouldnt look that cool with a CFL bulb in it.

In all honesty, probably not. Best suggestion would be to heat it up closer to the melting temperature of the glass (another ~300-400ºC beyond the melting point of aluminum) and see what happens. If you try, please post results (I'm curious now).

You want more molten glass and less aluminium, I've seen glassware which had some sort of artsy alu inclusions put into it, but the difference in melting points probably makes this fairly difficult to do.
