I noticed that some really old videos has suddenly got 720p and 1080p quality in the video player... does anyone know how to do this? I have a couple of videos from 2008 that are in 480p, and would like to re-master them (lol)
>>1015574
you cant't (lol)
>>1015574
YouTube would have to have the original raw upload to reprocess, which is unlikely, as they only need the processed video.
It's not magic, sorry.
Did your internet connection get better? Youtube defaults to lower quality if you're connection is too slow to stream high.
What do I do guys. I got thermal paste all over the top of my cpu when I installed my heat sink. Was I supposed to leave something on top of the cpu? Did I ruin my computer?
Also, is there any way to fix it so that thermal paste doesn't get on my cpu when I put my heat sink on again?
Just kill yourself.

I need some help with a projection screen I got for free from Craigslist to use as a sun shade on my balcony. I set it up and ran into a problem. I can't retract it easily. It seems that the ratchet/pawl mech only wants to retract a few inches at a time, and I find myself in a 1 step forward, 2 steps back battle.
My question: Can I somehow set this thing up so that the spring is always in "retract" mode? I'd anchor it at the bottom and when I need it to go up just remove it from said anchor.
One end is a round pin that spins, the other is a flat key that fits into a bracket to hold tension. If I round out the bracket, would it always want to retract, or completely break the system?
Thoughts?
The brand, if it helps.
These are quality, expensive screens - fkn waste as sunblinds. Apart from that, are you trying to operate at an angle? vertical only operation should work (better..). then hang ennd over something.. dunno how you setup at the moment, but they definitely designed for vertical use.
Hi /diy/ guess what I'm doing right now
Are you gonna castrate that hard drive?
>>1014966
yes because i need small engine
>>1014967
Are you making a diy fleshlight with the motor?
At least thats what its supposed to do.
It stopped working a few weeks ago.
Pulls water from my (((distillation machine))) and into my kitchen.
How do I debug this?
Should i try to open it and look inside?
Maybe it has a clogged filter inside?
Its nailed to the wall, so it's been completely still, so damage from random fall is impossible.
Power in the house has been dodgy. I live in god forsaken Puerto Rico and we have short but numerous outtages. A number of appliances have stopped working because of this presumably.
Could it be power related?
How would I go about fixing that?
Can it even be fixed?
>>1014927
Plug it into a fused outlet and put a meter on it. If it's not obvious, open it up, plug it back in, and trace the power from the source to the destination. If all that seems to work, then you're fucked bc it's not electrical lol
Outages don't often kill equipment ( hard disks can be the exception). Most equipment failures occur because of the voltage spike when the power comes back on.
If you get a power failure, turn off everything except the lights in the room you are in. turn those on so you know when power has returned.
A lot of electrical kit has inbuilt fuses (sometimes small, soldered in place and hard to find). Give us derails on the pump and maybe we can tell you.
Could also be the impeller seizing due to contaminant buildup (assuming its an impeller one not a diaphragm) does the pump make any noise when on?
>>1014935
Ignore the request for details.
http://www.purewaterproducts.com/img/docs/manuals/IMI-104c.pdf
The polyfuse might have died (the one that cuts the pump if they overheat) or it might be time to replace bits - see the bottom of the manual.
What is wrong with my sunflowers? Is this a sign of not enough water?
They just started doing this within the last 3 days.
They are most definitely not over watered.
Thank you

I don't see anything wrong exactly. Check for leaf hoppers.
>>1014812
when it droops like that it means its hot as fuck. The plant droops its leaves to avoid being overheated by the sun, usually means its dehydrated. I would be more worried about whatever is eating your leaves
>>1014812
Has your stupid ass ever thought that maybe bugs are eating your plants?
If that isn't the case go to Zanaris and talk to the Fairy King and Queen.
Continuing from last thread about soldering a phone power button...
Finally got some conductive glue in the mail. The syringe was absolute garbage but I made do. Overall I think it turned out as expected, it should work....just waiting for it to completely dry.
Hopefully it's not toxic, my hands were starting to look like the tin man's.

You could have used a soldering iron like any sane person would.
They are extremely old but in good shape and sharp.
The problem is the edges. They seem to have a slight curve to them.
Can this be sharpened out or do I have to just deal with it.
Thanks
Yeah, it can. I've had to refinish all of mine at some point. You can easily fix them with a file. I'd recommend sticking it in a table vice if you have one.
Sharpen it.But you'll have take off more material to fix it. A bench grinder or a belt sander with an old 120 belt could help the process. I mean you have like 3-7inches of material there. Just keep sharpening it til there's nothing left
>>1014754
Just to be a pedantic shit, you can't really sharpen it all the way down like >>1014776 said, they're not hardened for their entire length, but you're looking at maybe grinding off 1/16". I assume you know a little about hardening, and that if you just stick them up against a grinding wheel or belt you will overheat them and ruin the temper? If you don't know this, then take your time, grind for a few seconds (maybe 5?), then dunk it in cold water so you don't get it too hot. Continue until chisel is ground to the shape you want, then use any of 200,000 techniques to actually resharpen the edge itself.
I need to replace the seals on the end of a hydraulic piston ( from a 4 ton porta pack type bending kit ). I can't find a parts list or manual for this kit. They seem to be a standard size and type - I.D. 3/4" O.D. 1 1/8" Vee type. I don't know what material to look for or if I should just buy a 'replacement set'. They seem to be 3 different plastics capped by a special steel washer and a bronze ring.
any suggestions on what to look for or where to buy seals (i.e. ebay/hercules/? )?
what torque do i need to put on the piston nut?
<picture of seals
Also interested.
>>1014576
Take it to a hydraulic hose shop, they may be able to point you in the right direction
>>1014576
did you remember the way you put them together? (just making sure)
also there are seal manufacturers that stock standard sizes.
for types not sure, but it looks like a teflon, nylon and 2 rubber/urethane ones
Leaving for 10 days today and I don't want my vegetables to die. I have 6 of them in a tray. How can I keep them watered or from dying?
>>1014484
Get someone to water them for you? Or build a overcomplicted arduino controlled machine with linear actuators and a timer for optimal watering.
>>1014488
I'm on a vacation elsewhere while going on another vacation to the sea. Thought of growing some vegetables while on vacation.
>>1014484
put them all on the gound around a table. bucket of water on the table and strings of (maybe woven depends on size of plants) of wool from bucket into the dirt. now let the gravity do the work for you.
I live in a very dry desert and there are TONS of water bugs outside my house at night and they manage to get inside. I also have huge weeds despite there not being any substantial plantlife in the area.
I just found out that my neighbor is flooding her yard with water on a regular basis. I have no idea why. I think that's what is causing the weeds. Could it be causing the water bugs, too?
>>1014468
destroy her water supply
The weeds are probably growing naturally.
Water doesn't flow laterally unless it hits a surface that restricts flow enough to send it laterally.
>>1014536
Huh, wonder why they're growing in my yard and nobody else's. Literally my yard is the greenest place in the desert (except for the park down the street with a lawn).
Firtst time /diy/ post
So I made a smartphone projector out of a shoebox and a convex lens. I bet you all know that the image would flip, even if I prevented the video from rotating upright.
Is there an app that would allow me to play flipped videos or images? Or should I redo my box with mirrors?
https://www.vlchelp.com/rotating-video-in-vlc-media-player/
VLC could do it on a computer, the feature or interface might have been trimmed out of the android version, but you could probably get it back with the command line and then making a customer launch/shortcut/something for convenience.
Locking the screen rotation in the Android still rotates a landscape video?
>>1014426
In pretty much every app, yeah. Unless I download it and use VLC
Hey /diy/, is it possible for someone to make a /diy/ version of these things? If so, how do people generally do so? Some of them fail, and I'd need to know the components on what's needed to make these on my own.
Pic related, got some for 4th of july, but some failed for some shit reason.

Silver Fulminate - good luck!

>>1014356
Thanks, but one thing...
If there's too much of that in one bag, does that make the bang louder?
>>1014358
Seriously? I gave you the fucking article, read it!
>Despite producing a legitimate (albeit tiny) high-explosive detonation, the extremely high mass ratio of gravel to explosive acts as a buffer to ensure that the devices produce only the audible "crack" of the supersonic shockwave
The more you add, the bigger the bang. Pass the right threshold and you have a weapon. READ!!!
Newfag here, I hear that you can make lye, soap and biodiesel out of ash. Does that include the leftover ash from my coal-barbequing? And in that case, can I use this coffeemachine to make the lye by using ash instead of coffee powder?
>>1014237
Your coal Bbq ash has significant amounts of dirt filler. Sift it through grains of mesh to get it out. Google potash
>>1014240
So is potash is the thing in the ashes that give you lye from filtering boiled water through it? Sorry, I'm basicly entirely unfamiliar with the composition of these things, and not very good at chemistry, either. All I know is that the ashes would need to be burned thoroughly.
Also, the pot in the coffeemachine is made from glass in case that wasn't obvious, but is plastic an OK container as well?
I got a sewing machine from another person, the problem is the needle bar is shifted backwards and the needle hits the top cover of the feeding dogs
Anyone has an idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
