I recently moved in to a house and the previous owner was a fairly heavy smoker.

Today I had the air ducts cleaned and sanitized, registers changed, and carpet professionally cleaned. I've heard good things about air purifiers.

Are there any proven ways besides repainting the walls and tearing out the carpet?

Thanks

from my experience air purifiers don't really get rid of the smell, although give it a shot, they can be expensive but even if it doesn't work you will just end up with cleaner air and feels good to breath
>>
After bushfires, residents use ozone generators.Perhaps you can hire a professional unit from somewhere. I don't know how they work or even if they work, maybe google it
>>
>>1017180
This, an air purifier only removes the smell that's reaching the air.

>>1017187
Ozone and repainting/carpeting is probably the best option.

So, DIY, how tough would it be to replace the compressor on my condenser? I've gotten pro estimates and they seem outrageous.

Dunno man, looks like you'd need some pretty specialized tools and maybe a magnifying glass. That thing's pretty small, maybe you should just pay the guy.

do you have a manifold gauge, vacuum pump, nitrogen, refrigerant, oxyacetylene rig?

the reason they charge you so much is because they (usually) have to guarantee it for a few years.

Any information on laptop building?

Any questions?
>>
>>1016342
Too much work, time, and money to do it. You can build one, but you will never get it as closer to a normal laptop.
>>
>>1016342
I think you mean "laptop assembling".

The laptops you "build", with the exception of the Novena, are just laptops designed like any other that inexplicably come in kit form. You get the exact same laptop as if you'd used any normal manufacturer's options list, except you do a load more work, there's no warranty, and you don't save any money*.

* Unless you pirate Windows instead of paying for it.

Sup /diy, first of all, sorry for my english (not my native). I know 4chan full of creative and dumba$$ people and I think its gonna be fun to share with you what I'm doing right now. I want to share my loft bed processes. I have this idea since last year but I haven't enough time to design/construct it and make it happen. Ive been doing this with my worker (2 guys + 1 including me) since monday. I've a ton of photos to share with you, the processes and the crazy things my workers did. Let's start

Hello DIY, I don't come to this board often but I need your help. These things are all over my grape and black/strawberry plants. Is there a good way to remove them en masse?

>>
OP here. What I normally do is drop them into a bucket of soapy water so they drown, but they keep coming back.
>>
>>1015366
What do you drop into the soapy water? The individual beetles?
>>
>>1015363
I can't imagine that there isn't a single information on that online. Did you even try to google first?

Regardless, if you really can't find anything research what they eat, how they reproduce (where they put their eggs) and who there enemies are (competition, parasites).

Then decide on the easiest course. If they lay their eggs on the plants you could try spraying them with soapy water for example.

/diy/, I want to stop an office food thief, but I don't want to do anything illegal like booby trap my food. I was considering affixing a small disposable rfid sticker to my lunch bag and using that to track whoever's taken in within the office. How feasible is this approach, and how would you go about it? I can find rfid stickers on amazon but I have no idea what computer/phone programs I'd use with them.

Laxatives in your food, say it's a medical issue
OR
Empty a tin of Scho Ka Kola into a bag, then when they eat the whole thing, look for the person with the bleeding asshole.

RFID isn't that feasible.

If you don't really know anything about electronics, then I would recommend something like

https://www.amazon.com/SkyeTek-SkyeReader-SR70-RFID-Reader/dp/B00JPORXYI

If you can figure out how to solder a couple of wires and can get an rs232 connection working on a laptop, then I would say get one of the skyetek M1-minis. I think they have an antenna already built in, but it is small so you would need to be very close range, like within a few inches. I only recommend skyetek because I have successfully integrated them in to an electronic design before, but I also designed my own antenna to increase the range.

Honestly, RFID might not be the right choice here if you can figure out a cheaper way to do it. Although the M1-mini isn't expensive, you will probably spend a lot of time getting it up and running.

I'm making a vest to put all my patches on. A few studs and spikes as well and just wanted to know which vests you guys used for yours. I cannot find a vest that I like at ALL. I want a straight black vest (not faded) and I don't want a liner on the inside. Standard collar and buttons as well and I just can't find a simple STANDARD fucking vest and I'm getting pissed.

Does the Levi's one in your pic not fit the bill?

If it's that it's too faded then buy some dye and cold dye or machine dye it a more solid black.

If it's cost. Shit all I can do about that.

Why not browse eBay and see if there's anything close to what you want and go from there.
>>
Just a random pic. Don't actually have that vest otherwise it'd be great can't find it. Already looked for a black levis vest and just nowhere to be found.
>>
>>1014502

It's not ideal, but there are a ton of blue Levi's vests on eBay. It would require the aforementioned dye job, but they're actually pretty cheap second hand which surprised the hell out of me.

I searched Levi's sleeveless and got hit straight off on the US site.

Britfag here. Vintage Levi's denim costs a bomb in the UK.

Hello Anon.
Can anyone help me.

I am trying to light up a sandwich board with internal LEDs.
I need advice on how I can power such a thing.
The sandwich board is 700mm x 900mm and I need it to work without being plugged into a wall.

Any help or advice would be great.
thanks in advance.

Apologies but I haven't really looked into that info.
I plan on buy a 15m strip from China. They are multi coloured lights with a remote control.

I will find out the make of them. Gimme a second.

I was hoping something like this would do me. Il only be using 3.2m of it to cover the inside "rim" of the sandwich board.
Can this be powered without being plugged in ?

How do I into whittling? Is it incredibly difficult or is it generally easy?

>>
>>1018637

It's like any other learned skill.

You learn how to do it, then you do it, suck at it, then, with time, patience, and practice, git gud.

It's as easy as hard as you want it.
>>
>>1018637
Just takes patience, and practice along with a good sharp knife. Easiest to start learning by cutting the general shape of what you`re trying to make out of the block. Then you whittle it down little by little. Also, a good practice is to actually trace an outline onto each side of the block. This gives you some hard lined parameters to work off of.

Also this
>>1018648
>>
Just realize that your hard work will look like shit for a while and just get in the mindset that your next sculpture will look better than the last one. Do this daily and you'll get really good at whittling in no time.

So I need to replace the vinyl windows in my cabin since they're falling apart. I never liked the look of them anyway, what I really want is wood windows with the real wood grilles because I think they look beautiful, will last forever and if you break one, you only have to replace one individual pane rather than the whole sash.
Shitty thing is, premade wood windows are like $1k+ for the whole shebang (from every specialist/millwork company I've gotten quotes from, which is several)
Thankfully I just found real wood barn sashes, in the size I want, for $20 each at menards. I guess I would just have to make the frame/casing and opening mechanisms myself, which I think I can do (several years carpentry experience)

My question is, are these barn sashes capable of being made into a double hung window? One on top of the other, pic related is the style I'm after and here's the link to the sashes I found-
http://www.menards.com/main/doors-windows-millwork/windows/vinyl-windows-barn-sashes/standard-vinyl-windows-barn-sashes/unfinished-wood-divided-lite-barn-sash-with-single-pane-glass/p-1444449412500.htm

also does anybody have any experiences, advice, etc to share on making wood window frames yourself? I have a table saw, mitre saw and plenty of experience to do this, I just don't know where to start, thanks so much for anybody who can help.

>>
Do you only want the lower portion to move upwards? If so, thats a single hung slider. you're going to have to build a checkrail window in order to make those work for you. you could accomplish it with just the table saw and mitre saw, but it'll be tricky. what sort of climate are you in?
You can also replace the sealed unit(the glass) if it breaks, rather than downgrading your current windows. it's straight forward on vinyl windows.

What brand of windows are currently installed?
Also keep in mind that you're going to need to use fir wor the frames if you want them to stand any chance of lasting more than a few years.

I've been installing windows for more than half my life, started when i was 12.
>>
>>1018530
The vinyl windows I have now are some cheap shit that are like 10-20 years old and the vinyl is crashing and shit so they need completely replaced.

My specialty is roofing and while I've done a lot with wood doors and vinyl windows I've never done anything with wood windows other than reglazing.I'd prefer a double hung but would settle for single hung, but what exactly is a checkrail? I just don't know the difference between this barn sash and a regular sash which is the root of my question

How do you make money with goats? What are the best breeds and how do you take care of them? I'm looking for hardy goat breeds that I can sell for a good price. I have 10 acres about 7 acres of field and 3 in forest in central east Texas. I have built a small 16 x 16 cabin with loft back in the woods without utilities and have nearly fenced the place wit goat wire. I plan on staying in the cabin to take care of the goats. Also what are some ideas to make this cabin livable year round?

Hey /diy/. I'm making a steering wheel and I have a pot similar to pic related, except it has a slotted tip that's about 1/16" deep. The steering wheel won't be too heavy thankfully. How do I get the strongest bond between the potmeter and wheel?
21 posts and 9 images submitted.
>>
Example of the slotted shaft. It's made of aluminum. Forgive my ignorance cause I'm a virgin to this, but maybe I can weld it to a small metal bracket and screw the wheel on?
>>
>>1017890
if the steering wheel is not being supported only by the shaft, sure.
>>
>>1017892
[the construction of those pots is slightly tougher than tissue paper. With the leverage of a wheel welded to it, you'll shred it with minimal force.]
