I bought a guitar off of eBay, normally a $750 guitar, got it for $150 because one of the tuners is busted. It's an automatic tuner, but the e tuner is busted so badly that not only will the auto-tuner not work, but I can even tune manually.

I took the thing apart, and all the gears were in a jumble, and the teeth are damaged and half of the gears, making it impossible to turn even when I put the gears back in their proper place. The previous owner must have tried to force it, and fucked it up even worse.

The obvious solution is to just put a regular post/tuner in its place, but I want to see if I can salvage this so the auto-tuner will work. Is there anywhere, online or otherwise, that I can purchase tiny gears such as the ones pictured? If I replace the damaged gears I can probably fix the whole thing.

Contact the company and see if they can just send a new one or buy one from them.

You can have your friend at the specialist metalworks shop laser cut or mill them for you for a few grand probably
Or, buy replacement auto-tuning pegs from Gibson for $40

Pfft these gears are made of plastic, no way I'm shelling out $40 for this cheap crap after I've seen how they're made on the inside

Thanks though, I can use this for the worst case scenario

DIY Home security camera
I was thinking about security system for my home.
Any tips?

How i want this to work?
>i want to be able to start/stop recordings remotely, from my phone/PC via bluetooth or wi-fi
>Video Quality at least 720P
>it should save videos, on sd card, and then upload them to my FTP server, so i can view them on my computer
not necessary must-have features
>would be good if worked only within my local network
>would be good to have liveview, from camera while recording, liveview can be shit quality as long as the actual recording is saved in 720p
>would be good if it also recorded sound

I am thinking about using raspberry pi to do it, is it possible? Is it hard? It would be my first time making a project with raspberry pi.
If so how am i supposed to do it, where to start? I saw some tutorials on google but most of them is only about streaming.

At first i thought about turning old android smartphones into security cameras, since they are cheap and have verry qood quality cameras but i can't find any app that would work for me i tried
>IP WEBCAM
it seems to work ok, but the video quality is shit tier, actually it's more a slideshow than video
I also tried to use
>Teamviewer
Which had more potential, because i could start recording, from computer, then launch ftp app and dump recordings on my PC but, it doesn't work on some phones properly(only duplicates screen and doesn't allow to controll the phone from computer) also it requires accepting permission on phone every time i connect PC and it's not working within my local network.

This is about an upcoming project on my home. I have an old deck. Problem areas are the posts, stairs, and maybe a few creaky boards. The deck sucks. I'd like to restore this deck, and I think it's worse than I think it is. I'm trying to get into the zone. How hard is this to do, and is there any insider information here for decks that may save a ton?

this place is useless for anything other than turning screws
>>
>>1197728

No insider info, just an observation from someone with a decaying deck. When the impregnated supports are going it's less a restore and more a rebuild. In my country all ground posts are hardwood at least, but you burgers don't seem to build like that.

If the decking is hard wood you could reuse that, but everything else will likely be scrap.

PS. sawdust from pressure treated wood is nasty shit.

What to do with all these wood blanks? Some of them have a little spalting. I cut them to make my own paint brushes but it's very hard to /diy/ ferrule and there isn't good online instruction on how to. Besides stupid "get stick tie fur to stick, done" the widest ones are like 1 3/4 inch..

Maybe someone has little DIY woodwork plans. I don't wanna toss them because it came from a log that was pretty special to me.

Ummmm.. They are like 1/4th inch thick. And widest are 1 3/4" they are small! Haha. I do know where a huge piece of live oak that's splated lives that could be used as a gunstock probably.. But I'd need to buy a chainsaw because I only have an electric one and this big piece is in the woods on the ground. Maybe I'll get a picture tomorrow.

I need a new start switch for my dryer. Unfortunately, I can only find the exact part on some Mexican website for over $70. Do I have to use the exact same switch? If not, how can I tell if another switch will work?

Lol, it's just a regular switch. It either turns, makes a connection, then goes back to it's off state (a momentary switch),
Or it turns and stays on until you turn it back (like a light switch). It's rated for 1/2 hp (about 10 amps).

There are tons and tons of options once you find out if it's momentary or not. You may have to drill out the mount hole for a push button style. Let me know if it's momentary or not.
>>
>>1197261
Ohh, and please post the model or schematic if you have it. You didn't even post the model number of the switch you dick. It was hard to read that number.

Wow who cut that roof... Fucking I could cut a straighter line with a pair of kids safety scissors.

I wouldn't do that OP.. It will look really funny. Because where the existing post are at. And where the end of the cement Slab ends. Unless you're willing to remove those post and install single ones? They don't really look like they are bearing any weight besides the roof itself over the porch. And half of it looks to be supported by the house...

Hi diy, am looking to get into a trade, need help deciding.

Quick backstory though, for the past year I've been working as a part time relief milker (New Zealand) I went to an ag school and got top of my class of 50 people, got hired from within the school and have been doing random high paying dairy jobs for the past year now. I don't very much enjoy dairy farming it was just something to get me out of school and into a full time job. I recently applied to the army and if I don't get into the next 2 intakes then I can either.
>Go to Australia and work in a warehouse / tractor driver (dads over there and I have tractor experience so getting a job should be piss easy)
Or
>Get into a trade, I really fucking enjoy fencing but also like the idea of being a builder of some sort. Am open minded.

tl:dr What should I do with my life if I don't get in the army?

So what do?

How important is balancing when it comes to 18650 cells?

I plan on making a battery pack for my phone using 6 ncr18650b cells.
Based on my current extended battery, the three cells seem to have no load or charge balance, but they do good enough. I also slow charge it at around 350-500mah, and have no plans for quick charging.

My plan is to literally disconnect the cell from the original battery, and connect the 6 cells in parallel to it(after initially balancing them). Is it this easy?

Is 85wh in a phone enough for an act of terrorism if I try to fly with it?

servo-motor.jpg

So I got some chinamen servo motor.

However, if I set it below 90 degrees it keeps spinning. Between 90 - 270 or so it works correctly.

What is this oriental magic, I thought servo's couldn't rotate more than 180 (or some multitude of that)
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1196168
a servo is just a feedback loop.
controller commands motor, motor moves encoder, encoder informs controller.
you tell controller what to do and it compares the target with the actual to do its dirty business.

ok so.

first of all what most people imagine doing the encoding is a potentiometer, a variable resistor used as a voltage divider or something and the wiper gives you the position. if you have played with a potentiometer you know mostly they don't rotate 360 never mind past that.

ok so either there is some kind of clutch/slip/voodoo allowing the pot to overrun or its a special pot. or it could be something like a rotary encoder perhaps.

fine.

so why does it spin? well the logic in the controller is simple, if the commanded position is > actual position then turn the motor one way otherwise turn it the other way.

you can also have some element of error to stop it hunting or trying to find a position more acurrate than it is capable of doing but thats not important.

so when you say <90 i would expect that possibly it is set up as 90 degrees being actually 0 and 270 being whatever high number the encoder can output. that is scaling to get most accuracy. precision? no accuracy. yeah accuracy. some smart guy will post the archery targets or some shit dont worry.

so when it is set to below 90 and tries to move there the encoder probably rolls over to the highest number possible (its just how computers do maths - google overflows) so the servo is still trying to get to <90 but now it thinks its at fucking 270 or whatever. so it will go down to 90 and guess what? happens again. forever and ever.

so yeah.

but also you can get servos to rotate any angle with a potentiometer by use of gears to ratio the number of output shaft turns to the encoder turns. more turns for a reduction in precision if you think about it right?

most hobby servos do that set angle because thats what you need for rc cars and planes and shit.
big servos can turn all day long
>>
>>1196174
So.. to summarize, 0-89 degrees is out of bounds and it spergs?

Dunno how to order this shit for the small timer, but my shop used to order it so we could repair our own ladders.

Some guys milked their ladder repairs for an all day job though and they decided they would rather just order new ladders, so they stopped letting us order it.

Otherwise you could probably just use some fiberglass clearcoat stuff used in normal fiberglass work which I don't really know the right terms for.

Sell it and get an aluminium ladder. Gorrila probably makes the best ladder for the money.
