Who are some characters that were hugely popular but have sunk into obscurity? Gambit is the first one that comes to mind for me, as someone who grew up in the 90s
Gambit's still clinging to relevance, if only barely. I say give him until 2020 before giving up on him. If the movie happens or he's a main character in a book that doesn't fail by then he's still fairly popular.
Has plastic man ever been really popular or just go from underground superhero to nonexistent?
>>89698720
Gambit's still far and away one of the most popular X-Men characters. Most people (i.e. normies) remember the cartoon and games and barely touched the comics. He's a character who's really only hated by comic types (fans ans creators) because of the whole "everything popular in the '90s was shit" mentality.
Thoughts on licensed comics based on cartoons?
They don't get talked about often

Yes because whenever two characters combine to form a more powerful entity, the first thing that immediately comes to mind is Gay Space Rocks

No. Those guys used to be funny back when they made 40k videos (there name is even FlashGITZ) but then they just started making lowest common denominator 'nerd humor.'

Who is the better hero-villain pairing, Batman and the Joker or Superman and Lex Luthor?
All-Star Superman cemented Luthor as a character who's wrapped around Superman like a fucking vine.
>>89697534
Supes and Luthor. The Joker sucks and shouldn't be shoved into everything just because people recognize him.
>>89697880
>>89697975
Yeah, I'd say Superman and Lex too
Aquaguy thread
Just got caught up with the current series. Its quite good but I am getting the impression that, besides the continued public perception that he is kind of lame superhero that the weakest thing about him is that he is limited in the kinds of stories that can be told about him. Seems like about 90% of the stories about him are about his role as king of Atlantis or he is fighting Black Manta/Ocean Master for the billionth time
tl;dr how do we make Aquaman into a more interesting character?
Of course a lot of his stories are going to be about him being King of Atlantis. The the crux of the character. That's like complaining that a lot of Batman's stories are about him fighting crime in Gotham.
Anyway, right there on your image you've got Peter David's work on Aquaman that substantially expanded the mythos of Atlantis and its history, basically reinvented Aquaman as a character and was overall probably the most significant comics of his entire history.
Well, "Rise of the Seven Seas" is supposed to expand Aquaman's mythos, but it is always being pushed away. Jeff Parker would write it, then Cullen Bun, and now Abnett.
I hope it happens.

Congratulations anon, you've become part of the writing team of DC/Marvel/Whatever big comic book company, and as your first job the company wants you to introduce a brand new hero to the world.
Quick /co/, pitch a new superhero.
>some say a single punch from him can level a building in
>others say he killed a man just for mentioning his boiled comrad
>he is PRAWN defender of sea creatures

Lunatick, a crazed tick like alien from the moon who's strength varies depending on the gravity of the planet hes on. He feeds off it, and often gets kicked off nearly every planet he visits
The Roach. You take a sleazy dirtbag and give him super villain powers for the purpose of being a hero. His homeless situation just gets worse every few issues. He sometimes plays a minor role aiding more important superheroes but never stays long or until the fight is finished, so most superheroes can't find him afterwards or forget about him. Leaving him in an endless struggle on the streets. Looks like a mix between the dad from sunny with a chance of meatballs, Ernie Potts from Hey arnold, and Dr.Willy.
You seen his son now and again, and he's degrading fast as him. At one point theres a turning point where he starts getting his life back on track, moves in with a kind woman near the city outskirts, marries her, gets a job, has a kid, while he lets his father do whatever being homeless in the city.
Find a flaw.
Flaw #1: Its a train and not real
He is easily flummoxed by more modern and sophisticated engines.
He's not Thomas
Of every comic/cartoon you've read/watched, which made you the most uncomfortable?
Steven Universe.
Cerebus the Aardvark.
It's one thing to watch fictional characters have their lives destroyed. It's quite another to watch a real life person ruin themselves.

We didn't really get anything back. The Flash is still about Barry and Affirmative Action Wally. Wally's stuck in a shitty team book that no one cares about.
None of the good shit about Wally's Flash run even came along with him, just a knockoff version of Wally in a knockoff Flash suit on a knockoff Justice League. Even if they did come back, what would they do, hang around in fucking Titans?
I keep hearing "Wallyfags should be happy!" but it's hardly different from where we were the last 7 years. Does Wally showing up in a terrible book really good enough?
"Titans" is a good book. Ignore Booth's art and you will see.
>>89696660
Thanks lord someone else thinks the same.
I like Titans. People should read it, even with that hard to eat art. Simple stories, but you feel some build of the group, characters are well depicted and they share some nice interactions. It's fun and comfy.
>>89696589
Will the whinging of Wallyfags ever end?
So, I decided to check out a couple episodes of The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show Season 1 on Netflix. And, I gotta say it's actually pretty good.
>mr. peabody and sherman are both likable
>the stories get quite creative
>nice character designs for most
>some chuckleworthy moments
>funny historical caricatures
Everything seems to be going for the show...
And, then there are the talk show segments with the live studio audience and shit.
>annoying laugh tracks
>bogs down pacing
>stereotypical sassy black woman
>leaves me cringing until they get back to the story
>only saving grace is christine's thiccness
It's too bad because I'm a sucker for cartoons that make fun of history but the last one I can remember was Time Squad (though if there is a more recent one correct me)
Does it get better?
Also, just general Peabody and Sherman thread (if you wanna talk about the original or movie, go on ahead I guess)
See it's like how the rocky and bullwinkle show was like a vaudeville variety show, but this is a more modern kind of variety show.
>stereotypical sassy black woman
I'm sorry, is that supposed to be a bad thing? Christine is great and needs more art.

/co/ what is the best cartoon of it's time?
I think Tom and Jerry for slapstick comedy is one of the best.
Specially how racy it can be without even realizing it.
>>89696332
Tom should have shoved Jerry up his asshole.
>>89696354
ah, a fetisher I see. What else would you like to see Tom do?
It is one of the longest running cartoons with silent characters (some of them talk but mainly its just tom and jerry) and some of the best slapstick humor ever produced so it gets an A in my book
Is it time to stop trusting critics when it comes to Disney or Pixar?
Both movies are by no means bad, but they're pretty boring to me. For +90% on RottenTomatoes I was hoping for golden era Pixar quality.
>>89696211
>2017 Anno Domini
>Using review aggregators to find good movies
>Not following directors, writers, and actors that you enjoy
>Not following individual critics with taste similar to you
>Not asking your friends for recommendations
Use literally anything but review aggregators. If you still haven't figured out that using IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and MetaCritic to find movies to watch is a terrible idea, you should end your life.
>>89696211
>Is it time to stop trusting critics when it comes to Disney or Pixar?
No, it's time for you to stop misunderstanding the purpose and meaning of the Tomatometer.
>>89696211
THe meter says what percent of people enjoyed it, I think the measurement was who rated better than 60% or something, aka the Average Rating/10 right under the percent if you aren't merely distracted by big text.
So there's no update today, but Ashley put up the entries for the fanfic/fanart contest. Voting lasts all week. This pic is one of the fanart entries, but there's a lot of good ones. We could talk about them instead?

I should also mention that updates resume Wednesday.

This mikaila animation is pretty adorable.
I'm hoping someone reads the fanfics and tells us which ones are worth reading. I went to read the first one but it was 64 pages!
