Aquaguy thread
Just got caught up with the current series. Its quite good but I am getting the impression that, besides the continued public perception that he is kind of lame superhero that the weakest thing about him is that he is limited in the kinds of stories that can be told about him. Seems like about 90% of the stories about him are about his role as king of Atlantis or he is fighting Black Manta/Ocean Master for the billionth time
tl;dr how do we make Aquaman into a more interesting character?
Of course a lot of his stories are going to be about him being King of Atlantis. The the crux of the character. That's like complaining that a lot of Batman's stories are about him fighting crime in Gotham.
Anyway, right there on your image you've got Peter David's work on Aquaman that substantially expanded the mythos of Atlantis and its history, basically reinvented Aquaman as a character and was overall probably the most significant comics of his entire history.
Well, "Rise of the Seven Seas" is supposed to expand Aquaman's mythos, but it is always being pushed away. Jeff Parker would write it, then Cullen Bun, and now Abnett.
I hope it happens.

This
play with his power levels more because they can be absurd
also I like that they're trying to expand on an Atlantean supporting cast right now.

more underwater shit

While it is admirable in it's own way, Abbnett's run is kind of feeling like a very slow grind/burn
I can only hope that he reintroduces some of more magic elements of the book

Power level faggotry does not make for interesting character. Only a child would care about power levels.

it keeps Batman popular :^)

He has other villains, but since 99% of the world only heard of Black Manta and maybe Ocean Master they're the defaults.
We've had a few other villains, and some of them will come back.
But even other DC readers prolly wouldn't bother to learn them.
It's like how Martian Manhunter or Swamp Thing have more than 1 villain in their story, but for 99% of people they can only name 1.
