criminal records check. actually phone their references. No reference = fired. Also a face to face interview to make sure to can handle customers
>>
Frankly, the latest technique is the series interview, where you go to 5 or so interviews with most of the people they'll be working with.
Others have found that asking to submit sample work is better.

Most larger firms hire PI's to verify who you are and dox you.

What is the /biz/-approved tax software? From what I've been reading, the online tax software (TurboTax, H&R Block, etc) are pricey as fuck, but the free fill forms don't look promising either.

What do? Hire an actual accountant?

If your taxes are simple (a basic w2 or some part time work) then download the forms from irs.gov and do them yourself. I've done my own taxes for years. It's not actually that hard - jokes and the media make it out to be some impossibly complicated and lengthy task but that's bullshit.

If you don't even want to bother with that, get Turbotax, it costs like $40 and the taxes will take you an hour or two.

Welcome to adulthood.

I have no assets. I live with my mom, I don't own a car or anything of any value.

If I take out thousands in credit card loans and simply refuse to pay it back, what is the worst that will happen to me? If I just ignore and flat out refuse payment forever? I live in the UK, a country where paedophiles, rapists and heroin dealers escape custodial sentences on a regular basis and where sentences for even quite serious crimes are usually short anyway.

I literally don't care whether I live or die so the idea of debt no longer concerns me. I'm thinking about having a huge spending spree and just shrugging my shoulders at the end of it. The bailffs can take nothing from me, I have nothing. The house I live in and all its contents are not mine. I have no other seizable assets and my current account is in the red

How do you guys who live alone, survive?
I have an OK job with 2300 Mo/ income
Decent places around where I work are in the Hood places are 1200+ ranges. I was looking but not seeing much for renting houses, they seemed to be 1400+
at that point is it worth staying at home a little longer and saving to just get my own home? My old man says at the point of renting a home for 1400, just get your own and the mortage would be 1200, and the 200 can go into a home repair fund.. is this true? help a new player out..

you don't make very much for how expensive the city is in is. And in markets like that right now, buying makes even less sense than renting, not that you probably even have a downpayment given how much you make.

Move in with roommates, save, and hope that housing crashes so you can get in when it is cheap.
>>
>>1069523
This. Housing market is still bubbled
>>
so i should just rent a house until the market becomes realistic? uhg, the problem was i was trying to get away from people into my own place, but its like those places where you rent a 600ft copy paste apartment just dont exist here.
I swear the economy is fucked, yeah my job underpays but even then, is 10 more grand from 38k going to make or break me owning / renting?

How do you stay motived?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1068283
motivation is a meme.

Yes it will help you get off your ass for the first day, but after that, you need to create a workable plan that will allow you to keep doing what you want to do for the long term.

That plan, if worked at every day, will create good habits, which in turn will allow you to become better at whatever you want to do.

Keep in mind nothing ever gets easier even when you form good habits; your mind just becomes so wired at doing something that you do it anyways, despite the pain.
>>
>>1068294
This is pretty true. Say you want to stop being so messy. The first day you have to force yourself to walk over to the trash instead of hiding your wrapper in the couch. Then the second say you have to keep forcing yourself to go all the way over to the sink instead of wiping your loogie under your pillow. Used toilet paper has to go in the toilet so you have ton stand up instead of just tossing it in the trash next to you. It seems hard at first but little by little it just becomes you.
>>
>>1068294
>motivation is a meme.
this. It's discipline. Its about doing the shit the you hate so that later you can do the things you want to do and have the things you want to have. People searching for motivation are just trying to find a way to mentally make a challenge less difficult. It helps but it is no way the key to success: discipline is.

Is there more of a risk that I will lose money if I invest in a stock that has a 1% expected rate of return (cost of equity) than there is if I invest in a stock with a 15% expected rate of return?

I'm expected to make less money, sure, but am I equally likely to lose money on the investment?

>>
Does CAPM work for an individual investor?
>>
It's important to remember that "expected rate of return" has no bearing on the probability that the stock will increase in value. This is generally because the concept of "expected rate of return" on a volatile security is mostly bogus.

Let's say we had perfect information about the probability of the stock increasing (let's say it's 60%). Then, there's a 40% probability of the stock staying at the same value or decreasing.

But, there's no way to calculate the probability so it's just a farce.
>>
>>1070388
So does CAPM (or any modified, more advanced method that might be similar) really help an individual investor?

The idea is just that if the stock is going to increase, it would be expected to increase by the rate of the expected rate of return?

And following up on that, would a measure of the volatility of a stock (beta) be any good indicator (at least in the short term, not long term) that a stock is going to increase rather than decrease or stay the same?

Like would looking a security market line be of any help in deciding whether a stock is likely to make me any money (regardless of small that much might be) ?

If someone successfully opens a bank account, will their identity ever be subject to a check again?

I mean, to open an account you need ID and proof of address. Are these points ever re-examined?

The free market lets a lot of shit slide right now. I used to buy papa johns pizza under the asumption that the ingrediants ere better. Turns out that they put the cheapest shit possible in their food but still charge twice as much as little ceasers, and theyjust count on people like me being fucking retarded and beleiving their adds.

That being said, what are some other scams that arent perecuted for some reason? Primerica comes to mind.

Why is this a "scam"?

You willingly bought it. It's called marketing, news flash buddo: 90% of the most popular products aren't all that much superior to their (often much cheaper) competition.

iPhones cost much more than many other phones yet I'd be hardpressed to find iPhone hardware beating any of them.

Actually OP is onto something. Basically all of what they teach you in business school is how to avoid competition, whether it's by branding or market segmentation, or whatever. The whole point is to not compete with the other guy with the superiority of your product.

So in that sense capitalism != a free and competitive market. We're trapped in a local maximum.
