Hey /biz/ I have this idea for an extra buck
I want to make a business in my school where I sell notes that I've made in previous courses and sell them to people who need it.
I make some pretty good notes as the people who bought them truly liked them and told other people how it helped them mode than other notes did.
So I was thinking of expanding on it and hiring a bunch of other nerds who took courses that I haven't and sell their notes and pay them loyalty for it. And also share previous tests for a small fee for potential costumers.
What do you think? Does it sound like a good idea? Am I breaking any rules by this? Like academic dishonesty or some shit? I would like to know.

USfag here...
I'm going to order a bunch of products (jewelry and home decor) from China and sell them online. Every state has a warehouse, so my question is: which is the best state to house these items for tax purposes?
My physical location is New Jersey.
Shipping will be to all 50 states... maybe international, but I don't know the tax laws outside the US yet.
do it op, yu gonna make huge money, this is how everyone got rich the last few years.
Birmingham, Alabama
I'm serious.

So I lost just over 11% on my portfolio over January, how did everyone else fair?
What are peoples opinions on purchasing new stocks in order to bring average cost prices down this month or waiting out for commodity prices and other stuff to settle down.
Im in Australia trading mainly on ASX if that helps.
>>1068799
ASX brought me 70%
NYSE 30%
>>1068799
Up 60% from shorting oil, the canadian dollar, the australian stock index, and longing gold and the JPY.
I was actually up 90% before russia started talking about meeting up with the saudis on oil which made me take a 30% loss or so from holding on too long to a Canadian dollar short.

What is your dream? What do you want to accomplish?
I wanna be a multimillionaire whether it's owning a small business or investing or whatever than travel the world for a year or two and settle down early in life
I want to be a beloved and timeless film maker... to the best chance I'll have is by creating a lot of savings and passive income so I can really throw myself at my dream and never worry about money again. Currently I'm working hard to 'retire' @ age 30 and then do nothing but work towards my creative aspirations.
Well, I've retired early (relatively) so there's nothing else in my list now. So my goal is to find a goal

Is it wise to invest into oil while it's dirt cheap (ie. 30-35 a barrel) ?
>>1069779
If you won't take it out for a decade
>>1069779
Oil in 50 years will be $0 a barrel.
Oil in 10 years will be $250 a barrel.
I've been killing it as of late by networking as opposed to just applying for jobs. In the past week alone, I've made five new connections and I've already secured another informal interview for next week. I'm looking for full-time PR work in a different city from where I currently live, but I feel like I've made a ton of progress towards that in a relatively short period of time.
Just so I can glean on some of you guys who have done stuff like this to get work before: How soon can I expect one of the contacts I've made to turn into a full-time job offer? My goal is to move out of my parents' house and get my career started by May or June, but I'm giving myself early-Spring as an optimistic start date. Is this a good way to think, or am I in for a rude awakening and is this going to be a longer process than I think it will be?
>>1069626
It will be longer than you think
The person has to like you to offer you a job.
When you mean connections you mean you went and talk to the rich guys at the golf club or you went to one of those expo kinda things with stalls for a variety of large-medium firms?
>>1069631
It's been phone calls with higher-ups in my industry and people who own small PR firms. One interview was actually a "drop off my resume" visit that turned into an interview because the guy I talked to had time to kill.
Gonna be a longer process than you think, unless, of course you start sucking dicks.

>b-b-but what about muh commercial space travel?
>>1069574
Which leaves him with only $48 billion in Amazon stock. Exactly why are we using absolute numbers when this guy could literally lose 99% of his fortune and still be richer than anyone you've met in your life?
He could spend 6 million dollars everyday for the next 25 years and not run out of money.
So I filled my gfs taxes and I need to know how fucked I am.
I fudged a few things for my gf's return and ended up using my brother as a dependent who isn't related to her, but I said he was. I also said he made less than 4k when he made 14000. I did all this to get the EIC credit and used an online tax program to e-file. I just need to know if I'm fucked, and if so, how fucked am I? Is there any way to fix this if I am fucked? When I get the money do I leave it alone and try to do an amended return?
thanks for any help
>>1069562
you'll be fine. literally every person does this, they no longer even come after you for these little things.
>>1069562
Dd your brother file saying he was not being claimed as a dependent?
If so, the automated system will flag it, and they will likely send you a bill and ask for an explanation. Just say that you had been supporting him, and thought you could claim him. If you act dumb enough, they will likely waive the fines.
>>1069562
Seems like your ex-gf is the one who's fucked, lol. Hope she likes prison.
Hi All,
I've just finished my first year working for one of the Big 4 doing tax. I have a law background, and have recently been offered a Job working for the government assisting with tax policy.
I'm worried about a few things:
- Being bored; I'm a hard worker and from what I've heard some government departments can be lazy.
- Incompetent management; Apparently a lot of the management in the government are people who were promoted simply due to their time worked, as opposed to proven ability.
- Boys club culture; I don't mind this as long as I'm not going somewhere full of cliques that take forever to let you in. It only took me like a couple of weeks to start to fit in with my current team, but I've heard it can be a bit of a horror story in Government - partly because people leave less often.
>>1069542
Yes, there is nepotism and yes there is an old boys culture, but that is all leaving.
Upper management is finally realizing that promotion based on ability is more efficient than promotion based on time worked. The old guard are retiring and a new generation are being hired through a way more competitive process than the boomers ever went through.
The boys club thing is relevant but really only in the intelligence community, everywhere else women, minorities, etc have become half or more than half of the working staff.
I mean now the federal government has management consulting companies coming in teaching teams "innovation" and all the silicon valley crap is filtering into the government.
This could be a good thing or a bad thing.
I feel like I'm rambling but it's what I've noticed living and going to school around Washington.

I'm not American, but I can share some experiences as a lawyer working for government in tax.
>Being bored; I'm a hard worker and from what I've heard some government departments can be lazy.
There are some people who get by doing the bare minimum, but plenty who really do work hard. If you show that you're willing to take on more work (and that you're competent to do it) then you shouldn't find yourself bored.
The people who don't do much work tend to be older people who don't care anymore, or people who are just a bit shit at their jobs so no one asks them to do anything. Unfortunately it's difficult for incompetent people to actually get fired in government jobs.
>Incompetent management; Apparently a lot of the management in the government are people who were promoted simply due to their time worked, as opposed to proven ability.
Where I work there is a very strict system of merit based selection. It might be different where you are. If anything, the problem tends to be that people get promoted to management positions because they were performing well in their previous non-management roles. And good lawyers are not necessarily good managers. But yeah, it's luck of the draw with getting a good manager.
>Boys club culture
I haven't really experienced this. Actually I expect my colleagues would generally consider the private sector to have more of a boys' club culture.

Hey /biz/, I'm planning on starting up a home business baking cookies. It'll mostly be local in the hopes that it will one day expand into something more, but for now I'm starting small.
How do I determine how much I should sell each cookie for? I realize that I need to account for the price of all the ingredients, the time I put into it (which I suppose I need to determine the price of that myself) and the utilities and such.
It seems a bit tough because if I were to, say, buy giant bags of flour, sugar, salt and other ingredients from Costco, that would lead to a huge amount of cookies. Would I need to use my recipe and find out how many cookies I would make with a set of ingredients, divide the cookies into the price, then make sure that I at least break even on the price of ingredients + something established for hours I put in and the utilities (rather minor)?
The problem is that, obviously, there are some ingredients that will run out before the others. Flour bags are fucking huge, so I would definitely run through the sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, etc. well before I ever run out of flour, if only because some of those items you just can't buy in that amount of bulk. (Costco doesn't sell 10-15 lb bags of cocoa powder or baking powder).
Also, if I want to keep the price of all my cookies the same, how would I account for specialty items such as wanting to add nuts or M&M variants? I don't want to price them differently since they would certainly be more expensive.
I feel like I'm almost ready to start putting my products out there at work, with friends and family, but the pricing part is preventing me from going forward.
Any advice or help on this matter? Thanks.
>>1069180
What's the cost of materials on 500 cookies?
>>1069184
I would actually have to measure out how much of the bag I've used, then divide that by the size of the bag.
500 cookies would not dent a 25 lb bag of flour very much, but it would dent all the other stuff.
