Hello all,
I decided to use BTC for this, but anything would work. 17th century tulips would've educated the same, but I feel like this is something you guys are familiar with.
http://imgur.com/8fDUJIN
Please consult the image- we look at the bubble in stages, and show the full cycle, from $.01 to $.01.
The first step is stage A - This is the "pump" . People buy in for pennies, some buy in for more pennies- everyone that buys in here, is smart.
'Smart' people aren't the people that hold bags- the vast majority will exit near the peak- they're smart for a reason.
So, Stage A- rapid growth. Prices go up and up and up- quickly and rapidly approaching Stage B.
The people that buy in near the end of stage A are the ones that will typically, never sell the penny stock/tulips/bitcoins/etherum/litecoins/space rocks- they are 'bag holders'.
Suddenly, during stage A, there are tremors- rumblings. People get scared- they exit. The people that buy @ $100 and sell for $750 are what we call 'smart'- they pass fake assets to bag holders, who pay for these assets with cold hard cash.
Enter Stage B- The 'pop'. A correction occurs- bag holders either sell for pennies on the dollar, or they hold.
We can usually expect losses to around 25% of the 'peak' value.
Now, once the pop is finished, the smart people that bought at $100 and sold for $750 buy back in- they buy back in at $200 in the hopes that they will make MORE money- and they will. They're smart- the smart take money from the bag holders.
Enter stage C- recovery stage. The people that sold for $750 and buy at $200 go on reddit, they go on bitcoin websites, and they shill, to urge bag holders to hold, and suckers to buy.
The recovery stage will never get to the top of the peak, but we can expect 50%-%100 gains- double your money if you bought at the end of stage B.

In the old days, stockbrokers would get on the phone and say 'JOHNNY I KNOW YOU LOST A LOT OF MONEY BUT ITS GOING TO $10,000 YOU NEED TO BUY BUY BUY BUY FOR $350'
This is the second pump- we create new bag holders.
Stage D- A return to zero.
The penny stock which was worth $0 not so long ago, now crashes to $0. Everyone sells- other than bag holders. They hold the bag- it's what they do.
The people that bought back in at $200 sell their coins for $350-$400- the new top, the bag holders buy them for $400 because 'hey it was $1000 not so long ago, it's doubled in price from $200 to $400- it's going to $10,000!'
Please note: If you are planning to hold this stuff until mid 2016, please don't do anything stupid during stage D- the suicide hotline number is 1 (800) 273-8255 - they save people's lives and you can call them ANY day, ANY time, and they will LAUGH AT YOU FOR BUYING BITCOINS WITH DOLLARS.

Kinda agree with the chart except that C won't get as high as you think it will. I would say we are already pretty close to another dump.

Why is there hype surrounding Ethereum?

As far as I'm concerned it's just another bitcoin ripoff that will be subject to pump n dumps and stay in the $0.50-5/each range forever.

I don't think there's room in the market for a second crypto currency, so what makes Ethereum a worthy investment, or is it just a fun risky investment for most?

Is an MBA worth it?

Depend on your projects.
>>
>>1071486
Depends on your goals. If your goal is to start a business no. If your goal is to become VP level or above of an established business, then you should do an MBA and a stint in management consulting.

From a short term money perspective, it's probably worth it if you get into a top 10 school (Harvard, Wharton, etc) and are making less than about 100k in your current job.

Consultant with an mba earns 130-150 starting.

Hey /biz/

Looking for some feedback on career related questions. I think I have myself figured out quite well and I know most of this board (90% is trash), but that 10% can be pretty critical and logical and I appreciate that.
So here is my story, I went to a third tier university in Canada. I had descent highschool marks (high 80s low 90s), but didn't really know the importance of school. My marks really sank (below a 3.0 GPA) when my father died around 2/3rd year, as I had to help out the family business, and decided to still stay in school.
Fast forward to now, I am a 4th year. In my 2nd year I was able to get an internship at a boutique PE firm part time. In my 3rd year I was able to get into a summer internship at a Credit Rating agency and there is a strong chance I will be getting a Buy-side internship in the summer at TD. I am writing CFA L1 in June and I am going to graduate likely in Fall/Winter 2016/2017. I've also done many competitions and started our own finance group where we've done company pitches every term. This year I have been getting As/Bs while balancing my life and looking to finish very strong so I have a story of improvement as a pitch. (Whether its for jobs or Grad school)
I also manage a $500k portfolio for some friends/ex-bosses that I worked for in my highschool years and have a blog where I post my ideas, stock pitches and analysis on world events, to keep myself sharp and have a portfolio of work to share.

My goal is to work at NYC, but my concerns are:
- I don't have connections there
- Getting a Visa may be a bitch (i.e. why would they hire me when there is a descent talent pool there that doesn't need to be brought over)
- My work experience would not likely be seen as relevant, small PE firm, credit rating agency and even the TD Asset management gig

My longer term goal is to work in Buy Side, it really makes my blood pump. I am thinking of possibly going there and just networking non-stop for a few weeks, but that may be fruitless or potentially getting some sort of job for a few years and then getting an MBA in the States at a top school, work on getting high GMAT scores in the meantime and continue doing my own little thing.
I am not sure if anyone here had any kind of similar experiences, but input would be appreciated

I've googled around including for the state in my country (Queensland Australia). But can anyone give me an indication what is the norm in this situation.

I'm renting a property and its been for sale, open houses every weekend, I don't care much. Its taken them a year because people aren't very interested in its location.

The lowdown: My tenancy ends in March, but they already had me renew for a 1 year rental agreement going from this coming march to next. If it sells before this agreement ends, would the next years still keep? Or would I need to move out before it initiates on the rollover date?

Evidence has led me to believe I'm safe in this matter, but obviously I want to try and be sure. I realise different countries may have different laws on it, but its been very difficult to find any fine print about this "window" of a situation.

>>
>>1071249
Meet the new owner, the law doesn't matter as much as your relationship with them.
>>
>>1071254
Thats the thing, its being sold by a Super Fund. The property itself is a 100% faceless investment of the state. I have a very good relation with the Realty Office. But we know salespeople are always two faced.
>>
>>1071271

Here is the relevant page OP

https://www.rta.qld.gov.au/Renting/During-a-tenancy/When-a-property-is-for-sale

Notably, if you want them to stop the open houses it looks like you can do so.

In answer to your main question, yes, your lease will be valid until next march even if the property sells.

What did you do?
Why did you do it?
Did it pay off?
How did you find the drive?

I work 84 hour work weeks. It's not too bad. I work six weeks, get two off. It's pretty nice since it's good pay too. Company handles housing and food for those two weeks. I'm not a high position yet, but I have family elsewhere in the company and he gets his flights and stuff paid for too.
Only problem is the company is stingy with raises since most people are pretty shit/shady workers and they just don't want to pay more money out.
>>
>>1071115
>company handles food and housing for those six weeks I meant.
>>
>>1071082

Used to. Was working a government contract and the company didn't want to hire people. I'd work 70 to 80 hours a week, all hourly, with night time shift differential and made damn good money doing it. Easily bring home $4,000+ paychecks every two weeks. Did that for a little over a year.

Does anyone know how much investment in a bitcoin mining rig is needed for it to be profitable?

I need advice for this project I'm working on at my university. It's basically a philanthropic crowd funded mining rig, that furthers the public's understanding of crypto-currency.

You need free or discount electricity for it to be worth it.

You also need to hit ROI VERY VERY FAST, because moore's law means you're mining rig is worthless in 18 months

Mining is completely dead.

You literally cannot break even without free electricity now, and even then, it's going to take months just to pay for the equipment.

You do realize that, statistically speaking, the average non-engineering college grad who isn't going into a PhD, JD, or MD program and doesn't have a standing offer for a position making at least $60k starting is better off commissioning as an officer in the military, right?

>Starting O1 makes ~$35k plus well over $10k in housing and cost of living benefits which are tax free
>Pretty much guaranteed promotion to O2 within six months, making $40k plus the aforementioned benefits which are tax free
>If you're multi-lingual in the right languages up to 12k per year in additional pay is also on the table from when you're certified by the military to be proficient

Keep in mind that the average college grad starts at $35k unless they're in one of those groups I mentioned.

So I'm 26 and just finished my masters.

I have 40 euro in my bank and start work tomorrow that pays 500€ a week for the next 6 months and then I should get a good bump up.

So I want to be rich. I have no debts and life fixed costs are about 100 euro a week.

If you, /biz/ were in my position. A healthy 26 year old Irish male, where would you begin?

>full time state job
>at work risk of being injured, risk of being infected by parasites/hard illness etc.

Here, take that hard mode. Plus if you want to live on your own you need:
>200-300euro a month for 1 ROOM FLAT TO RENT
>100-200euro a month to get food
>50-80euro a monhth bills
>plus other things like fuel if you drive to work, cause it's even cheaper here than public bus
>clothes
>fucking medicines
>etc.

You need a lesson of life kiddo. On a scale from 0 to 10, when 0 is kid mode, you are on -1. Fucking easy kiddos. Try something hard, you are not a man.

is it even possible to get a job?

>attend regionally known non target university
>major in finance after becoming obsessed with the markets
>attempt to get enter an internship program during my junior year
>literally zero call backs
>realize how fucked I am due to finance's focus on the name of your school

>realize how fucked I am for not getting any major internships during Jr. year

Now I've graduated and I'm pretty much fucked. Is it even possible to get a finance job now? Literally the only things I see up are book keeping/accounting jobs. It's like there are just closed doors everywhere preventing the normal guy from getting into anything decent.

what part of the industry are you trying to get into? the term "finance" is very broad and accounting definitely falls under the umbrella.

why didn't you get any internships? what relevant experience did you work towards?

what was your gpa? did you do anything academically to stand out? research, papers, etc.
>>

I'll take anything. I'd like to be a trader, or work on the sell side.

Participated in the school finance clubs, created investment strategies, etc.

It's 3.3 :( plebe tier

I have no idea why it didn't work out...I applied a lot. I didn't even get rejection letters from many.

I just feel like in any decent FO entry level positions there are giant barriers to entry preventing everyone but the most privileged from entering and it's disheartening
