Can Apple and Wal-mart technically be known as monopolies? if not, why not?

I'm not sure why Google isn't, but your examples are fairly fucking awful. Apple barely dominates, if it even still does dominate, a single category of consumer electronics, and Walmart, in addition to being strangled by the internet, has plenty of competition.

Yeah... 10% market share doesn't cut it for a monopoly.

Is a liberal arts degree rally that bad if it's your passion and you're already good at your creative craft?

Yes it's close to worthless
>>

yes its one of the worst possible decisions you can make, unless you just want to network all of college and get a non degree related job, in which case its merely a degree that says "went to university" which is a requirement for many jobs
>>
you can get management or supervisory plus sales or government jobs. its not too bad if its already paid

What are some certifications and degrees that are low time investment with good salaries and employment security?

So I have a business venture that is starting to be more trouble than it is to operate. I want to close it down and find employment. Problem is, I have a non-specialized management degree that hasn't really gotten me further than underemployed clerical jobs. Honestly why I went self-employed in the first place. So now I'm looking for a career focus and real skills. I have enough money and time to get another degree, MBA or certification so that factor is not an issue. I'm even open to switching from business to tech, health or something else if the result is practical. What's wise to do here?

no certification has a good salary or employment security by itself

certifications are only a means to an end. they will help you get past the gatekeeper who checks your CV when you apply for a job but they don't actually prove you know anything.

however, generic project management certifications such as PMP are a reasonably good bet.
>>
>>1062559

Even if you get a qualification, you're still going to have to start at the bottom of the ladder and work your way up so stop trying to half-ass it. Decide what you want to do and throw yourself at it, none of this "low time investment" easy street shit and expecting to be earning six figures in three years.
>>
>>1062568
>no certification has a good salary or employment security by itself
True, I think of it more like a step booster.
>PMP
Very interesting, though I prefer a career that is less people intensive

>>1062625
Still, it's better pay and a smaller job pool starting as something like a certified network admin than a marketing assistant or financial clerk. There's no magic bullet but I'm looking for an option that would be the path of least resistance so to speak.

Hey /biz/ I decided I want to be an electrician. Is there anything I should be looking for specifically when it comes to trade schools? Any tips from any other electricians?

Also, I won't be starting until sometime after this summer, I'll be working in the meantime, but I was wondering if there are any books or online courses that could get me introduced to the field and maybe give me a head start. Thanks guys.

Any decent community college should offer the classes to become an electrician in the US

I'm srs, they have lots of low level info on basically any trade/hobby and happily answer dumb questions.

So penny stocks. A land full of scammers and pump and dumps correct?

In fact, all these REAL stories of young guys turning like 15k into 500k in a couple years or whatever.. Essentially their "strategies" revolve around pump and dumps correct? Either they pump stocks (illegal and RARE.. because the people who do this kind of shady shit remain in the shadows and aren't going to be all over the news).

Im just seeing if my logic is correct here and I get the whole picture. So essentially making money off of pump and dumps, is a strategy in itself right? And a pretty good one it seems..? I mean theres nothing illegal about making money off a pump and dump unless YOU are pumping the stock.

Is all my information basically correct?
26 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
So basically one of my main questions is,

With penny stocks you either pump stocks like a jew or just learn how to spot a pump and dump and take advantage?
>>
>>1070214

Either one.

Beware: A lot of pumpers prey on people that are trying to "spot the pump and dump"

At the end of the day, the smart take from the stupid.

There is always someone smarter than you, no matter how smart you are.

Penny stocks is a stressful and dangerous (literally) business-

Average Joe that lost his life savings to your pump and dump sometimes decide they want to smack you in the head with a baseball bat and take their money back.
>>
>>1070225
yep. funny you mention that because all these penny stock gurus like timothy sykes.. They do post all their trades and shit, and they DO make a lot of money.. but I bet they do some shady shit like preying on people who try and spot the dump.

So would you say theres MORE of people A , which include people making money off of preying on those trying to spot the dumps. Or more of people B people who just get really good at predicting and "catching" pumps.

Could you please give me a crude quick example of a scenario where a pumper would prey on those who are trying to spot the pump? Or is it just simply that they convince "spotters" that they are a spotter as well and that they really think that stock X will go up?

I know penny stocks is stressful and dangerous as hell, it's very risky BUT theres opportunity to make huge money, the way I see it is it's like the drug dealing world of stocks? Since in the chaotic world of dealing drugs you can get ridiculously high returns if you know what you are doing but you can also get fucked extremely hard AND it's risky as fuck all together to begin with.

I'm still a fucking noob though so maybe im talking out of my ass. I am completely aware that I have a lot to learn. but essentially I want to start fucking around with penny stocks after 5-6 months more of reseach.. just with a couple grand.. just for the fuck of it, just to see if who knows.. maybe pennystocks will be my niche and il learn it very nicely.

Am I just completely fucking fantasizing? Or is this actually in the realm of POSSIBLE it's just very very unlikely. I mean, these success stories of these young guys who went from 20k to 200k or whatever.. They didn't get "lucky" did they..? I mean almost all of them say that at one point they fucked up and lost a huge amount.

What are some characteristics of some of these young people who learned the art of pennystocks.. do you basically just have to know and spot all the bullshit.

Peter Schiff gets a lot of shit for being into gold and hyperinflation, but, you know, he probably has a better track record than most.

He called the housing bubble, of course, and correctly diagnosed banking's exposure to it, but even after the crisis, he has been one of the few voices consistently predicting the next round of QE, etc, and he'll probably be right again when the fed back pedals on its rate hike. He makes a lot of sense when he diagnoses current problems in the US economy too.

Bad at Timing? Yes. Otherwise, kind of under-rated.

It's not really much of anything when you keep predicting it will rain and then eventually it rains.

I can also keep saying "THERE WILL BE A RECESSION SOON, A VERY BIG RECESSION AND VERY SCARY".

And then when nothing happens for years - I can make excuses. "Oh it just didn't happen yet, it will happen you'll see!", and then something small happens and it rebounds, I can say "Oh that's just some small waves before the tidal wave, don't worry it'll be there!".

Eventually 15 years later there is a recession and I say "SEE I WAS RIGHT, WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME?". But then again if people had believed me they would've been sitting waiting for 15 years, foolishly.

But he gives specific reasons for the recessions, so its a moot point.

Track record for being consistently wrong as a petulant doomer or consistently profitable for selling his gold to other retarded doomers?

Anyone have experience managing inventory for a small business?
I've just started this year and am having a hell of a time getting it straight.
I've been using excel to track changes but haven't yet come up with a reliable structure to give summary totals, keep a running record of ingredient use and set reliable thresholds for reordering.
What tips can you offer from your experience?

Could a gas company, personally fund electric cars, build solar farms somewhere with plenty of sunlight, and switch to using that as their product, in an attempt to decrease pollution, yet still make a profit?

I believe implementing the infrastructure is quite expensive, so the capital would be high

I bet they have the technology to do so already, but won't because they're making bank already, why change what's working?

There's also a lot of people that wouldn't allow it and politics, I think that's why electric cars aren't fully out yet
>>
depends on how much land their willing to buy and having no returns on just extending their gas burning production. If they are not getting solar subsidies then the answer is absolutely not.

What is /biz/'s opinion on the US Federal Reserve being an independent entity and all those "conspiracy-theorist" videos on YouTube?

Who owns the US Federal Reserve? Why isn't it ran by the U.S. government? What about the claims that all the central banks are owned by the same groups of people?
Why are more countries in debt now than ever before and why is this amount of debt constantly increasing?

tfw dont know what is real and what isnt

>>
Central Banks being controlled by the same people is true. The stuff about your SSN being a bond number and population control to pay off debts is a crockm
>>
>>1070004
Who controls these Central Banks then? Why isn't something done to nationalize them or make them publicly owned?
>>
>>1069968
The federal reserve is in the hands of an independent entity because politicians shouldn't directly control the source of funds for the government. The funds need to be allocated in a proper, organized way (like a budget bill) so that things don't get out of hand (or into the hands of congressmen). Basically it keeps elected officials' skin out of the game. It doesn't matter who owns it really, as long as they're not incompetent and the government can audit them then things should be fine.

Debt increases for countries because governments don't make enough money. The money they make is poured into defense contracting and other stuff that requires funding while they neglect things like healthcare for their own citizens and paying back bonds (governments have passed laws for healthcare, and citizens meet the requirements, but they are delayed in giving the benefits out. thus creating debt). Most of the US debt is owed to its citizens for exactly this reason. But, a government in debt isn't a bad thing. We just need to keep deficits (continual loss) down and we're good. People eventually get paid their benefits and the country moves on.

Wtf does my friend work as?

He tells everyone he is a broker.
I shadowed in a brokerage and saw that their main clients were banks.
His clients are random people he calls. He might get one sale per 3 weeks for $600.
Yet he takes the piss out of telemarketers
What does he do?!
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
He's a 'broker' who is selling investments through the phone as a telemarketer would, possibly in an illegal boiler room. It's not necessarily shady, as sales is a MASSIVE part of the financial world regardless of your role, but it very well could be, and your friend sounds like he sucks at it either way.

I was a financial advisor for two years. I did a lot of cold calling and door-to-door, and that was my bread and butter, but I also got to actually manage client accounts.

Okay guys, what's a good university and business type major to go to that will help me land a job as an economist/business type employment. I'm 27 years old, so I need as much prestige and desirable business major out there. I live in California within an hour distance of LA and San Diego. I tried for computer engineering, but Physics fucked me over. Here's my transcript. Any major that will at least take Calculus II+ so that I can say that I didn't waste a year doing additional Maths.
