How much would you pay for a course that would teach you all about investing for beginners? Assuming you know nothing about investing and it's an 8 week course meeting once a week similar to the learning your city offers as programs at community centers. I'll be teaching financial statement analysis, overall knowledge of investing, macroeconomic effects on investments, some excel, and a bunch of other topics.
MY city offers an intro to excel course for $165 for 6 weeks as an idea of comparison. I'm a finance graduate and a CFA level 2 candidate.

I wouldn't pay more than $20 for a course by an unproven nobody. And that's being generous.

However if you pitch it right you could easily dupe people for $100 per. Or more. If you knew about basic economics you'd know how to figure out the right price point. Hint: you already know one key bit of info.

be better setting up a level 1 study group. If you can build a program, even informally, there has to be a small-on-yhe-side business thrre. Weekend mornings at a librsry.

I transferred between one company and another. My old workplace was terrible and my new one will look nice on a resume. They didn't need to take me and I knew it so I low balled my pay but it seemed like they probably wouldn't go for me. So, I offered to let my boss and his boss have me pay for their lunch for the length of my contact there. It ended up working out but it's always a little embarrassing when they drop off receipts at my inbox or my desk or when I write them each checks. They aren't cheap eaters either, and why should they be? I'm happier here but wondering, is this something I should be embarrassed by?

How do you tell if someone is old money and naive, or just autistic and old fashioned?

/biz/ related because some people literally live in a different world due to their inherited wealth. And some are just space cadets.

If someone inherited 1 million dollars and is worth 10 million today, take them seriously.

If someone inherited $0 and is worth $ 1 million, take them seriously.

If someone inherited $10 million and is worth $10.1 (or 9) million, write them off as a fool.

if you're smart, it's pretty easy to tell who is smart.

Listen to what people say, not how they say it, or who it comes from.

If a homeless guy is saying things that you as a smart person, know to be true, then listen to them- they might say some stuff you don't know.

Now, 100% of homeless people aren't smart, so that's a bad example, but you get it.

Typically, poor people tend to be poor for a reason, so it's safe to write off their opinions as worthless
>>
>>1067956
Only if said poor person is older than 30 and poor.

Everyone needs a good bullshit detector. It's as simple as that. Bullshit can come in any form from anybody, and I don't think there are any good "rules" about who not to trust and who to trust by default -- in fact, the only rule might be to trust nobody until they earn it.

>About to switch from Verizon to a different company

>I ask if I have to pay anything

>chick tells me I don't, and the new company will do it for me

>Turns out new company won't do it, and now Verizon wants me to pay an "early termination fee "

So,

I cancelled my Verizon account and switch to another one on the pretense that there won't be any fee, because they told me they want. Is this grounds to sue them? I'm sure as hell not going to pay their fee
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1067424
Research what areas they do not serve and tell them you are moving to there, no termination fee since it's "their fault" they don't service those areas.
>>
>>1067424
Did you write down the who told you that, and at what time? Usually if that's the case you can just talk to their supervisor.

How can I become a special intellect agency person or an espionage spy that lives in like miami or something. I have a 2 year degree in criminal justice and a vocational criminal justice diploma for a 2 year course.

Is there a lie detector test? I haven't done anything illegal besides drugs but I've smoked crack, free based molly, snorted pills, done ecstasy, smoking weed and oils on a daily basis, and I drink a lot. I've also sold drugs but I didn't want to. I think I'd be perfect as an agent as I'm athletic, coordinated, smart fast thinking and organized, and I can shoot and drive cars good.

>spy
You have to know languages and be ethnically arabic, or else be particularly inconspicuous. It helps if you know mathematics, particularly those related to cryptography.
>special agent
The agency should have contacted you while you were in college.
If that didn't happen, try sending a resume to the agency.
If the agency doesn't call you back, become a policeman, then become a detective, then send a resume again.

I fail to see how this thread is /biz/ related.

Real estate isn't a very professional world. Its full of commissions and sales targets and stuff so essentially personable people get promoted rather than people with a broad view of the industry.

If its a small firm you might be interviewed by the owner but either way don't expect them to know too much about pictures.

They will however expect competence when it comes to the actual work.

It can be. The USPS is odd in that is required to pay for employees pensions up front, which combined with terrible terrible mismanagement has put them near bankruptcy. If you would enjoy a government job with tons of bureaucracy, slow and inconsistent promotions and working with and for inept people, sure. My dad worked there for over 40 years.
>>
>>1065860
Also worth noting that you would have to kill several people and burn the sorting facility down before they would think about firing you.

My dad is a postal employee and is near retirement. I believe he is making 60k but is still just a carrier. There are other things you can do to move up in individual offices. He worked around seven to three most days when I was a kid. Christmas and other holidays these days will pound you in the ass. Your boss and the USPS will likely be cunts about all kinds of stupid shit. I recall many a night hearing my dad bitch about work and his coworkers. This may be specific to his office though. I am not sure of his benefits but I know he never saved very well. I assume there is a 401k. I know the health benefits are pretty sweet. I am still on their insurance until I'm 26, but usually my copay is 18 dollars for general office visits. I had collarbone surgery and it amounted to around 3-4k for everything. If you can get a walking route you can probably get in pretty damn good shape too. Let me know if I can answer anything else

The entire marketing is utterly depraved gambling from top to bottom. An individual investor cannot beat the market except by the grace of God (i.e. pure luck).

The only reason banks "win" is by frontrunning, insider trading, committing fraud, and the stabilizing influence of the sheer volume of transactions they are involved in. None of these things can be recreated by you.

Day trade at your own risk, you will be on the streets faster than you can say "buy the dip"

Yeah okay, just remember that there are many out there that choose their own portfolio of diversified undervalued/growth stocks that pay out healthy dividends and these traders outperform many index funds in 5-yr and 10-yr performance.

There are day traders that make millions, aren't a part of the banking industry, and they don't have any insider knowledge.

Just because you are mad that you aren't a part of the 5% of successful day traders doesn't mean that it isn't true.

If the entire market was utterly depraved gambling, then that would mean the markets would be completely inefficient; however, if the banks only "win" for the reasons you listed, then the markets would be completely efficient and the individual investor would have no room to capitalize by finding market inefficiencies. But if what they were investing was just a complete gamble, then that would just create a ton of inefficiency in the market. Efficient Market Theory is just a theory in a field of soft science. The truth of the matter is that humans are all irrational in some capacity, even the people who work at the banks who, "rig the markets". So to say that the individual can't compete is dumb.

How in the fuck do you have index funds outperform the markets if they were rigged? Do you think the analysts at Vanguard just rig the market? No, they pick stocks on quantifiable data that shows a considerable chance at certain stocks outperforming the market.

I injured my back and have to have surgery for herniated disc's (two of them). I run a one man snow removal company and now have to subcontract out all of my work.

That's been trouble. Because I can do it for relatively cheap, I've kept my price way down. Also, I have a bit of a corner on the market down my way. All companies I've found charge more for their services and some aren't interested in doing work in my part of town. However, the contract I use says I'll find a replacement if I can't do the work that costs no more than what I would charge.

What do I do? If I subcontract out to someone that charges more, I have to pay the difference? No one is willing to do it at the rate I was charging.

So /biz/ Which is better Electrical or Mechanical engineering. Keep in mind that I'm not in America so job prospects for both are good. One of the main things holding me from jumping at mechanical is that I need a masters. If you work in either field please give me some insight into what you do generally.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
why do you need masters?
>>
EE with a focus on like energy distribution is probably a safer bet in general, but if you've got a big manufacturing industry in your country mechanical might be better.

Both are decent professions though.
There's also a lot more overlap than you'd expect, so I wouldn't be too worried about getting it right.

How do you balance education and work?

Say that you study for your Masters degree, at the same time working for the company you'd like to work for forever. How do you balance? How do you tell your boss you can't come cause you have to do an exam or whatever?

This. If your boss isn't happy that you're furthering your education, and isn't willing to help accommodate your needs, you should probably be looking for a new job.

Honestly, your employer should be paying for your Master's. Personally, I pay for my own because I'm a contract employee, and my hourly pay makes up for not having any benefits. If you're a regular employee but don't get education assistance, your employer sucks.
