Explain the housing market bubble of 2007, is it possible we could all be that fucking stupid?

There have been a number of films on this.
Subprime CPOs get packaged together to form A,AA, AAA.

People take out multiple shit loans for no reason, 2007 comes around and millions of people cant repay.

Banks sell these holdings asap, millions of people lose their jobs and homes. Like one person goes to jail for it.

I'm paraphrasing here but you get the gist. Watch Margin Call, The Big Short and a few documentaries on it.

Inside Job is good too.

So when you see people who look like picrelated on LinkedIn, and there are tonnes of them even in one profession (whether it's as associates in law or finance) in one city, most of them probably making £100 k to £200 k... how do you stand out in life? They had to relentlessly wagecuck just to get to that point!

Does a bachelors degree in straight math actually lead to any kind of jobs?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1164671
it does if you minor or double major in cs, or if you go to a top school. i studied applied math at a shitty state school and make $35k/yr doing manual labor on swing shift because i can't find any better jobs. going back for my masters in accounting so I can get a real job.
>>
>>1164687

If I do a finance degree with a minor in mathematics at a target school
>>
>>1164693
you'll probably be able to get a great job but talk to people at your school and see how the alumni have done.

I am 21 saving 35% of my income. I hope to retire in my late 30s to 40s. Is it wrong that when I retire, all I really want to do is play MMOs or other video games?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.

You aren't saving a high enough percentage. Also, you need to be finished paying for a house by retirement age, or you will need extra money to make up the difference.

Might as well start one since a buyer is trying to screw me. Item value is $200.

>sold new video card Jan 30th to him
>files chargeback through PayPal today, March 27th....
>literally 56 days after the fact and 52 days after he got it.
>claims, "bbb-ut I didn't have a system to use it on till today!"
>I say that's your fault and honestly, probably a lie. Any normal ebayer would have said something within the first week, you've had the card wayyy too long for me to take your claim seriously. I would have refunded you in a reasonable amount of time had you contacted me. This is On you buddy.
> also, he never once contacted me through eBay or anything, wake up today to an email from PayPal and a negative feedback on eBay saying "eBay wouldn't let me open a case, the seller screwed me"

I called PayPal and had them escalate it to a claim that they will decide. I wrote a huge amount in the provide more info section basically denouncing and discrediting the buyer as a scammer.

My PayPal account was opened in 2007 and I have never lost a case of any kind, I have always refunded buyers provided they ask in a reasonable amount of time and I've always owned up to anything I may have done. But I have always won any disputed PayPal case.

What are my chances I don't get screwed guys?

If it's a chargeback it will take a while to be resolved (1-3 months). You'll just have to hope Paypal does their job, make sure to check for emails if they want you to upload anymore info. There's really nothing you can do...

Is Pharmacy still memed on /biz/?

>>
I'm in med now (first year) and there are a number of pharmacists in here who are absolute bossing it. Having a solid grasp of pharmacology gives you a huge advantage if you wish to later take that route
>>
The problem with pharmacy is that the debt has gotten out of control and the good jobs are harder to find.

It's not uncommon for pharmacy school tuition to almost match the price of most MD programs

Just like with law, you better be really committed to it and/or have family already in it.

If you just fuck around and expect a cozy job to land in your lap, then you're gonna be up shit creek while you wage slave with 200k+ in debt.

Are you really a "business owner" if you just followed the template of a franchise?

you pay for them, run them as if you ran a.. Food... Business. Why wouldn't it be? Would you be a business man if you owned a floral shop? Or a bank? What about a law firm?
>>
>>1164101

In order to be a "business owner", you must own a business.

Think about it and come back in a few years.
>>
I think about it like this: if you own a franchise or rental properties (commercial or residential) then you're a different kind of business owners. You have a business model already worked out for you basically by blue print, but you have to defend that shit. In my city the local franchise/commercial property owners have lobbied the city to effectively keep out food trucks that could compete with their businesses. They have to stay on top of that shit, so they have a different set of obligations than, say, the guy who opened up his own Mexican restaurant downtown and has grown them into a small chain of local restaurants. He's worried about his business model and margins, you're worried about keeping out rival developers and businesses.

I'm a student at university, but I currently have about £5000 to spare. What sort of stuff could I do with it so that I have a sizeable amount when I leave university? Hey /biz/nitches, what you guys know about tax lien properties? Specifically in Alabama?

Looking to buy up some projects and shit for the lulz.

So far as I can tell once you get the tax lien certificate the original owner has 3 years to make good, but that incurs a 12% penalty on the taxes you paid + up to 15% of the value of the house you may have paid over base tax price. If after that 3 years they don't do shit you get a tax deed and the property is officially yours.

Seems pretty awesome to me, either end up with property or a nice 12% return on your dollars.... So what's the catch?

Also I'm not trying to get in a bid war on actual valuable properties lol, just looking to buy up random lands in weird places, and abandoned industrial shit, like I said, for keks. Lots of these properties have back taxes of like $300 or less lol.

Are you the same kike looking to move to St. Louis in nigger center?
>>
>>1164009
What? No lol. Just a random dude in Alabama. Was looking at cheap properties and came across tax sale stuff and it got me thinking...

Plenty of developers around here made money buy buying historic or older housing when it was ghetto for like $500-$2000 for gigantic run down 5k sq ft houses and turning them into duplexes and plexus and shit.

I just want to try some DIY gentrification and get some random lands in the industrial areas to fuck around on.

Seems fun you know? If I can just mail the city like $250 and now have a nice chunk of land with an abandoned warehouse on it lol.

Or in ghetto areas buy up blight (often the houses are literally falling down, 0 value structures) then demolish the house, salvage what I can and just keep at it until I own the neighborhood.
>>
>>1164007
Not familiar with Alabama, but definitely check the relevant state and municipality codes. If all goes well you're right, great 12% returns. If things don't go well though, you may end up responsible for foreclosure proceedings, and depending on the law, the owner may be entitled to auction proceeds minus your cut. Also should check if subsequent tax liens get priority over yours and if you have an early-bird opportunity to grab subsequent liens and secure your interest.
