I've already studied the hell out of investing over the past few years or so (40-50 books and thousands of articles).

I'm now studying trading/day trading/swing trading. I've been studying them enough for the past few months, so much so that I'd like to test it out on a simulator.

The problem is, for some reason, I'm intimidated by trading software and what not. I just know there are going to be 3,000 different "DMGA: 2DGOMcA%^7" choices on the screen and in the program itself that I won't understand what the fuck they mean or do.

What do?

Also, can you set trading software/brokerage trading software to do automated things? Like "Buy all stocks that are doing X, sell when they get to Y, and set a stop loss of Z on all of them"?

You will find what you're looking for in NinjaTrader, it has a professional C# scripting/programming environment where you can implement whatever you want as long as you have the skill to write it in code. They also have a strategy-wizard which allows you to do the same with a point&click-interface which is for people who have no clue about C# but obviously this wizard is limited. Other than that it is just about as good/complex as TradeStation for example.

The way their pricing works: the platform is for free with end-of-day data and originally designed as a powerful charting software. But they also implement a wide range of brokers such that you can connect to your broker and then trade through NinjaTrader directly. These trades are then combined with commission/fees for NinjaTrader (see website for more info on pricing). You can play around with the end-of-day data as much as you like and you're free to use whatever the software offers (C# scripting, backtesting, etc.). You can also create a demo account at FXCM (which is what I did) to receive live intraday-push data for CFDs and forex for free, and then subsequently develop your intraday scripting/algorithms for free based on that data.I have checked out quite a few platforms over the years but NinjaTrader so far was the best, and it gives you full access to algo-development and up to tick/1sec-intraday-push data (CFD, forex) for free, so you can play around with that until you feel confident to start paying real money for another data-feed if you need to. MetaTrader, TradeStation, NinjaTrader and InteractiveBrokers APIs are actually one of the few ways to implement algo-trading at all as far as I know (not every broker support automation).

For those of you with experience with starting a business, where did you get your ideas? I've always thought you needed to be some genius inventor to start a business with a revolutionary idea.

>>
Just look at your daily activities or activities other people do and see how you can make something better, improve upon it or more efficient

That's how uber, gopro, airbnb seem to have been made
>>
You have to be irritated by stuff and a DIY guy.

I always look at how a service sucks and what I would do to make it better.

I develop websites so I know what is practical and what's not.

If you can't dev then you need money. I tried selling ideas to Colgate and they just stole one because I didnt have the 3 grand for a patent.

I really think being a good idea guy is being able to sit on your idea for a few months to see if it's still a good idea.

Business are easy. Basically what it boils down to is selling goods or services. There are 5 basic ways to have a successful business.

>1.You have goods or services that other people want that nobody else sells (new invention/idea).
>2. You have goods or services that other people want that other people sell but you offer it cheaper or better (undercutting the market).
>3. You have goods or services that other people want that other people sell cheaper or better but you convince them yours is better (branding).
4. You have goods or services that other people want that other people sell but you find a way to sell it through a location or means that other people haven't (niche).
>5. You have goods or services that other people don't want but you convince them they do want it (marketing).

Whats a realistic way to get 10% on your investments year in year out?

I've seen realistic 7% returns (mix of dividend and selling call options)

Can you name a way to top the 7% return which isn't high risk?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1169243
There are none. 10% will always be associated with high risk investments.

You can do P2P Lending, but the taxes kill the returns.
>>
RE notes get around ten to twelve percent
>>
I'll look up the taxes for P2P lending in my country, good idea. thanks
What are RE notes?

Alright /biz/, I need to get a stable job/income from doing shit on the internet before College ends so I can be left the fuck alone.

I currently have a YouTube account with 200 subscribers but I hardly make 2,000 viewers a month, which leads to barely $0.20 a month. Should I work my ass off and push even more videos to try to get more viewers? Should I shill my videos nonstop on sites where retards would watch them, like Reddit or Facebook?

I also have decent programmer abilities, and I could make games with ads on them but without the proper marketing they would just flop. I can also make animations/draw but I'm way too retarded to come up with good ideas.

What do you do to live off the internet?

I find it funny how every year they talk about how some movie set a record at the box office
it's not really impressive when it's due to inflation
>>
>>1169112
Star Wars is still the 3rd highest grossing film even adjusting for inflation. Titanic and Avatar are also up there. The infrastructure for movie sales is just a lot more developed than even 30 years ago. It's still interesting that the highest grossing movie of all time (inflation adjusted) is Gone with the Wind, though.

But... what does this all have to do with business and finance? What's the angle here?

How smart would it be to try and get into the video games industry?

It seems like it's absolutely fucked by feminists and SJWs
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
the problem isn't sjws it's that too many people are in it now because it's simplified by shit like unity

I hear that over 500 new games hit the app stores every day. hard to make it as a small time dev in that environment

if you're thinking of working for a bigger company they'll treat you like shit because everyone wants to work in vidya
>>
>>1169010
I'd say its a good idea if you're not involved in it for the wrong reasons and are beyond that neckbeard gap.

Its a billion dollar industry, and you have loads of platforms and various engines to fall back onto creation and development. Assuming you want to make and sell your own games, it can be a pretty spiffy return if you succeed. However, the market is saturated with non cooperate games and it can be hard to make something stand out. Undertale, which was made in arguably the worst engine I've ever used (game-maker) managed to reap in about 3.9 million between the year of 2015-2016 according to steamspy. I can only imagine how much that five night's at freddy's owner made between five games now.

As far as general game development goes Writing, Art, Music Composition, Programming are the main grounds needed to be covered. Non development grounds required are Accounting, Marketing, and then finding a legal firm to copyright/patent/ect your works. Eventually public service representatives down the line if you manage to go cooperate.

Considering there is hundreds of game reviewers/players/general other review medias all over the web now you have a pretty good amount of options in marketing said game today if you shoot them some emails and messages.

You're right on the marker about feminism and left wing pandering being a common theme in this industry, but thats mainly directed in the indie game scene. The group of nobodies and special snowflakes who think they're going to be the new-age faces of video games and make ground breaking innovations when they can't even handle facts and being disagreed with. This media is tackled by them because its easier to prey on impressionable young adults, teens, and children because thats the majority in age groups that plays video games. If you keep your head out of the political side and focus on making good games, you're likely to get the positive attention you would want.
>>
>>1169054
Thanks for the response bro, do you have experience in the industry?

If I go into it I'd try to avoid the neckbeard fantasy shit

Hey /biz/, I have about 25k that I can freely use how I want. It was always a dream of mine, and partially I always thought it would be a goldmine if I opened an arcade in Queens, NY. There are NO MORE arcades in this borough, and Forest Hills/Flushing would be prime and have people flocking to it.

The only reason arcades keep dying is because of the ludicrous prices. Who wants to pay a fucking dollar per life? I'm thinking of following the business strategy of Modern Pinball. For those that don't know:

http://www.modernpinballnyc.com/

Basically, you pay a fee to play unlimited games for a certain number of hours, rather than per play. I feel like if this is applied to a standard arcade, it would work fucking awesome.

Anyone have any thoughts? Of course the big kicker would be maintenance of the cabinets, and purchasing them in the first place. I'll probably need more capital before really getting this rolling.

It's a power thing. Just like in Poker, much of your power position depends upon what your opposite _thinks_ you have. If he exactly knows your stats, you become predictable, even if you have more than him. And when you're predictable, you can be defeated.
