History major here.
Complete newfag to economics.
There isn't an economics board so I figured I'd ask here.
Pure socialism is unsustainable due to lack of growth.
Laissez faire capitalism is unsustainable (globally) due to too many bubbles and too many producers and consumers dying prematurely.
What is the middle ground?
Liberalized Socialism?
Heavily regulated capitalism?
Does protectionism play a part as a transitional entity?
If you can't answer this, please direct me to somewhere that can.
Thanks in advance.
>pic unrelated - just a bunch of cute husky puppies. Enjoy.
What is the middle ground?
Somewhere between Austrian and Keynsian
>laissez faire capitalism causes bubbles
No
The middle ground is where we are now, where we have the remnants of a free market, but with constant government interference and regulation.
Your mistake is assuming the middle ground is always desirable.
>>1171720
Could you direct me to where I could be appropriately schooled on Austrian/Keynesian please?
Preferably not wikipedia.
>>1171722
Government interference is essential for the sake of sovereignty. Speaking as a born and bred citizen of a country whose essential services (not just manufacturing) have been sold off to foreign interests who cut through margins with literal slave labour.
Any one here in this industry?
How are things going?
Are we in a bubble?
How easy is it to get funding for a startup at the moment?
What are the current field of interests for VCs nowadays?
Is being a VC alpha?
Fuck I live on that street. Silicon Valley is a gaping shithole, a maw of fuck-douchery.
>>1171709
VC is not the right way to success. If you want to get into startups, get into the business of organizing autists at top schools.
Simply sittings on the sidelines and waiting for startup to approach you or looking for promising startups gives you no advantage.
>>1172125
Holy shit you actually live on that legendary street? This street kinda freaked me out when I was there, it just looks boring as fuck. Nobody walks, just office spaces, it's weird.
I didn't there were people living on Sand Hill who don't work in the startup ecosystem.
How do you like living next to billion dollar funds?
>>1172147
Not sure what your point is.
Yay or nay /biz/? With a $50,000k investment, would i be able to build a mostly automatic store and make a decent salary?
>>1171690
*$50,000 before some smartass picks up on that mistake
>>1171690
Yay, but only in specific circumstances where you can find an extremely reliable supplier that's willing to trade with you and act under the guise that they are in fact you.
>>1171690
$50,000? Fuck... I started my business with $50, some scrap wood, and a beat up $25 saw I got off craigslist two years ago. Today it pays all the bills, and at any given point I'm sitting on $20,000 in inventory and about $7,500 in capital equipment.
Why is lining up sales before you've spent a dime of your own this impossible thing for everyone?
To answer your question: I fucking hope $50k is enough to start your engine. It should be enough for you to become the manufacturer/distributor yourself...
Good luck bro!
Is it unethical that I visit every thrift store in my city every day in search of goods that are worth much more then they are sold for? ($5 clothing that's brand-name and worth $50+, quality books and antiques, random furniture that sells well on Etsy, etc.)
This is stuff that is supposed to be sold to people who are struggling and I'm taking it and selling it for a profit.
Am I a monster?
no that's pretty much how most people start out.
it might be unethical if you bought out entire inventories and sold it back to them, but i don't think that works.
>>1171675
"how most people start out"
S-so it's okay?
Or are we all monsters...

You realize that the goodwill CEO's make million dollar salaries? Pretty sure nobody cares about you flipping used Levi's champ.
My uncle (mum's younger brother) is rich. Net worth over £10M tbqh.
I have a relatively close relationship with him and I've gotten great presents from time to time. He's my godfather too, and a lifelong bachelor (47 this year) with no kids or other family.
How do I ensure I inherit his money?
>>1171589
>How do I ensure I inherit his money?
Ensure that you are unequivocally left money in his will.
>>1171589
That probably going to be ~30 years from now fag. I would put your mind to something else.
>>1171589
>47
He has plenty of time to realize you're a faggot. I wouldn't count on inheriting that money.
Looks like Syscoin pump is happening right now. Time to hop on the moon train? What say?
>>1171588
Poloniex has the shittiest goddamn UI.
I've been trying to figure out how to purchase syscoin for a fucking hour.
Whats up with the sudden nose-dive? SYS looks like shit to me
>>1171588
Hop on the Trump Train it's leaving the station.
How would an economy like in star treks work?
It seems to be fully automated and they mention that the society is a "post scarcity society"
>>1171471
The machines can provide anything you want for free, so society would be very different than it is today where things are valuable because they are rare (intentional or not, see diamonds)
>>1171471
The truth is no one knows, since no one has come up with such an economy now. http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2013/11/18/star_trek_economy_federation_is_only_mostly_post_scarcity.html

The problem is even with no human labour commodities are plentiful but not infinite. So how do you determine who gets what and how much are they allowed to have?
Thoughts on this business?
I hear it has very little debt and YUGE cash flow.
and some of the worlds most TREMENDOUS assets?
Tremendous cash flow.
What's the point of studying anything but finance?
Even if you do end up making a big salary being a doctor, you still won't know what to do with it and you'll be getting fucked on high income taxes.
>I only understand a narrow niche of professional life through the lens of my autism, 4chan posts, and investopedia
Spend some time in the real world OP.
Because Finance is a meme only useful for convincing idiots to hand over their money for you to "invest" and take a hefty slice off the top from.
The doctor can simply buy VOO and already be beating a vast majority of "professional investors".
Currently work at a retail store and get this, I actually like to work with the costumers and help them find what they need. As long as they don't smell or aren't complete assholes. Right now I'm in college about to start my courses in Computer Science next semester, but I'm afraid I won't find a job or won't like Computer Science. So, as a backup, I'm considering getting my real estate license and doing that. I haven't done any research on real estate yet, so I have no idea what to expect. Is it a good career? What if you live in NYC?
If you want to earn around minimum wage on average unless you're the top 2% of real estate agents making millions, sure.
>>1171299
Nothing wrong with having a backup plan. I think making a living in real estate would be harder than in computer science, so don't give that up. There are tons of real estate agents, it's not easy to compete, but it can be done.
insurance selling license would probably be better for someone younger!
also, look into accounting if you dont like computer science!... a combination of both would likely land you a nice job!
then, after i had been a professional for a while, I would do real estate.
what went wrong?
You're saying its not cool anymore?
Turned into a record label essentially
didn't innovate,
didn't make the interface brain dead enough for normies
I have a big website and I need a Facebook fanpage to promote it to normalfags.
In order to register an username, I need an SMS verification
My concern is that stupid Facebook will somehow leak to people that has my phone number (it's my personal number) that I have that big website generating a decent amount of ad revenue (I want to keep it to myself).
I don't feel like buying a SIMcard for an additional phone number just to get a FB username.
So my question is: Does FB notify people that has your number notify that you own that FB when you enter your number?
Im using a brand new FB, a brand new email, but my concern is the phone number.
I've set everything to as private as possible.
I've noticed that FB doesn't allow you to set "Who can look you up using the email address or phone number you provided?" to "only me" which is ridiculous (pic related), but since it's a Fanpage, there are no "Friends" so this seems irrelevant.
Please help .
>>1170674
You literally could have gone to a mall and picked a prepaid sim card in the time it took you to type all that shit.
>>1170745
In my country we need to file up details etc, it's not as easy it actually takes time.
Im on dat frugal time so if I can save 10 bucks I'll save them.
>people will type in your phone number to see what secret fan pages you have set up
yes, normies do this all the time.
just buy a burner sim card or have a look into putting skype account number in there or something
If you had to kill yourself what would be a guaranteed way to make millions before you end it?
>>1170661
kek
There is no guarantees in life, familio
So, /biz/, I'm 31 years old and come to the realization that I wasted these 31 years. I'm a high school dropout, make only 31k/year, $1,400 to my name, around 14k in company stocks, and a few thousand worth of firearms and ammo. At least im only around 1.5-2k in debt and have good credit.
Now I have a 21 year old gf of 2 years that wants to move in, get married, etc... Problem is, I couldn't motivate myself to get a GED if my life depended on it. Are there any other professions I could seek that don't require a high school diploma, that would bump me up to at least 40-50k a year?
>>1170546
>don't require a high school diploma
Oh, I might have a job soon I could hire yo-
>wait didn't I read something about how he couldn't motivate himself to get a GED even if his life depended on it?
> I couldn't motivate myself to get a GED if my life depended on it
You best have a damn good reason for this, as I'm also a high school dropout but at I have my GED.
>>1170546
>has 10 years younger gf
>can't motivate him to get better
Is she fugly or mentally weak or something? What am I missing here?
From what I hear on here (lel) various SPECIALIZED manual labour jobs are real good in terms of pay. Carpenting, plumbing, electrician, etc. Shit that is vital for civilized life, but which requires the use of your hands and has a 'low' status for people who prefer to get degrees in Journalism with 50k in debt (hence labour shortages).
>>1170552
Don't know if its ADD or what. I did study for a good month and relearned alot of the math that I forgot. It wasn't particularly hard or anything, I just find myself going back to fucking video games and not giving a shit. I have all the reason in the world to do this. A girl that wants to get married and have kids with me. But I just get too comfortable with my current situation to want to do anything about it. Fuck.
Been thinking about going to a doc to get adderall prescribed, but I don't know if it'd be worth the trouble.
> so, what are your hobbies ?
Luckily, I've never been asked this. But if an interviewer did ask me I would be fucked.
Anyone have any good bullshit responses to this question that makes you look like a normie?
Is telling the interviewer that you like to watch netflix and chill a good thing?
>>1170545
I enjoy fiction writing and photography. It keeps my mind away from the numbers and helps me to keep a creative mind.
>>1170573
I've been asked this BS question once. The answer doesn't really matter as long as you're not saying stupid shit like 'anal donkey sex'. The interviewer is just trying to get a feel for your personality with some small talk.
