Because you need a willing buyer, fuckwit. You don't just get to sell a stock at whatever price you want. For all you know, the bid (if any) will be far below what you paid.

Hey bros, checkout my idea for changing how we play sports. Money can made by advertisers etc. Tell me what you think, don't hold back:

A free community driven sporting activity network that will get communities to play sports together - both recreationally and competitively. The network will cover all sporting activities, where people will easily join up with fellow locals to engage in the sport together.

Players can join existing games that are in need of people, create their own game by starting a waiting list of people that’ll be ready once the player list is matched, create sports ‘clubs’, engage in local tournaments/competitive games (overseen by the company), local leaderboard stats for the competitive games, tools to help post video/pictures to social media, live stream match footage, among other things to keep the community actively involved.

For joining an existing match, there’ll be a variety of ways in doing so, some of which are:

Enabled Notifications phones that’ll notify when a newly available game is posted that matches the user’s interest.

Searching through a the full list of games being created active games that are being pinged out to the community. This will be done very easily, simply by clicking which sport, city, and skill set you’re looking for

Joining a Looking For Player list, which consists of people alerting the community that they’re looking for people to play with, a list that you’ll be able to scroll through and message any user that fits what you’re looking for

For creating a match, the user will select the traits of the game he wants, then when ready will ping it to the community so people looking for a similar game setup can join. When assembled, the user can change the status of the game to active & seeking players, active-closer, or disable it from being noticed by the community entirely, etc.

The service’s community features will be one of the driving factors for the service’s popularity:

The service will host tournaments and single one-off competitive matches for the community, which will put teams/clubs in a town playing against each other, cities vs. cities, states vs. states, etc. Stats and rankings will all be posted on the service as well

Creating a sport club will help group users together to help create a local network of players for that club, to more easily get together to play and practice in a familiar group.

Video recording/editing, picture taking features will all be included for specialized sport photos, along with uploading tools.

There’ll be a tab on the app/website that’ll feature allow users to watch live broadcasts of matches, being broadcasted by a user’s phone, laptop, portable device, etc. This will especially be used for broadcasting local tournaments.

How do you account for travel time and people's schedules? Is a group of people supposed to just sit around and wait until somebody shows up to play? Is this a physical building or just a social network service?
>>
>>1295574

For travel time and when people will show up, it'd be up to them to schedule a game around everybody's time.

There'll be a Google map feature that'll alert the users on everyone's travel time, giving them an automated suggested game time

Its a service, used by app/website etc

And yeah, if somebody is late to the match, then the match would go on in some form until he shows up, or they'd get somebody else.

I'm at a career-crossroads and I'd really like some advice. I'm currently working in customer service for a large telecom company. If I keep doing this and collect experience from the industry maybe I could open up my own business down the line, Some kind of phone shop I think.
On the other hand I could get a job at the Tax Agency in my country, collect experience, get a job at as a consultant at some accounting firm and create some kind of career along those lines. I have an accounting degree and I have patience, so I could do it. The only problem is that if I have to live the rest of my life as a wageslave then I will be depressed, unfullfilled and might as well kill myself.
The idea of opening up a business down the line is the only thing that I actually value and care about. I have few friends and few interests besides business. It sort of feels like if I don't have some kind of business my life will just have no point.

Wat do, /biz/?

you sound really naive for some raisen

how much $$ do you make per year? What would your phone store sell? Where do you live? Are there classes you can take to increase your technical knowledge in your field? Can you do IP phones?
>>
>>1295486
>how much $$ do you make per year?
Too little
>What would your phone store sell?
You know, subscribtions, smartphones, pads, wifi-equipment, colorful phone cases, etc. But the main sell point would have to be service, because anybody can order a phone online and the main reason people go to stores is to be able to ask the staff questions, I think.
>Where do you live?
European welfare country, simply put
> Are there classes you can take to increase your technical knowledge in your field?
Prolly
>Can you do IP phones?
Don't know what you mean, but then again I've only recently started this profession and english isn't my first language.

I've heard of people who have opened phone-stores, so it has to be doable. But I really think I need feedback on these thoughts.

Hi /biz/, I am looking to pursue a side-hobby in artsy bullshit like digital painting and sculpting. I'd be putting around 6 hours a week on the weeks I focus on it.

For sculpting, I'll be starting with copper, aluminum, concrete, tin, lead, wood, and textiles. Casting and forging will be possible. Painting, electroplating, and engraving will be available further down the line when I can save more money. A few personal projects I'll be starting with are gun parts like stocks, handguards, ect. No, I will not be ruining valuable antiques or doing antique fraud.

So I ask to any /biz/inessmen with experience in the decor industry and art patronage: What are good sellers these days and what are predictions for the future? I need the practice and I am willing to craft with sales in mind if the price is right. My 5 minute googling mostly came up pretty bunk.

>>
>>1295383
what can you actually do

what can you actually sculpt? What have you made before? what is your training? where do you live?
>>
>>1295440
Zero experience. With the exception of CAD, youtube videos, and research on how not go douse yourself in molten metal or set yourself on fire, this is new to me. The main reason I want to get into this is because I already have free access to tools (saws, files, powerdrills, grinding stones, ect.) and the startup cost for a casting station will be pretty low. I'll have to look into the local colleges to see if they offer a sculpting class.

I live in Illinois, near a college town of 100k+ people and a two hour drive away from Chicago (45 minutes if you take the train). Good combination of urban, suburban, rural, and international crowds to appeal to.

I write short horror stories as a hobby. My stories were published in two books and some magazines. I never had the "ow, I'll make money with it" I just did what I like and people liked that too.

What are the economic ramifications of Britain leaving the EU?

Britain votes in 14 days on the decision to leave, or to stay in the European Union.

What aspects of the world economy will suffer or will bolster if Britain decides to leave?
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Given how much they are paying to be in the EU I don't see how it even makes them money.

I personally would like to see them leave.
>>
I can't see us leaving, the state has to much invested in us being in the EU and they want us to remain.

The campaigning is ridiculous, no can tell the truth from the spin.

No one seems to be able to give a clear reason why we should stay and the motivation for me to vote leave is driven by curiosity to see what happens and that's not a very good justification to vote leave.

I really don't know which way to vote.
>>
>>1295320
Do you really think us, the top 5th biggest economy in the world, needs the EU? Especially considering we're fucking paying out the nose to get no more privileges than damn Greece?

Can someone please explain bitcoin to me? I have a general idea but Im still lost on how it fan count as currency
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Because it can be exchanged with others in return for goods and services.
>>
>>1295120
It's not a currency. Currencies are given a guaranteed value by some organization, usually a government. Bitcoin is just a number traded (or subdivided and traded) among people. It has no guaranteed or inherent value and is not legally mandated as a unit of exchange in any physical place on earth.

It is a digital tulip.

Sell explosive vests and weapons.

But really I used to work at a restaurant right next to a mosque. The moose limbs would always order fish or things without pork in it. If you want food then do that. Also if you happen to own a parking lot or land near a mosque, charge for parking since they'll get packed.

Maybe try selling some framed pictures of Allan or Mohammad?

I want money to gain power over people, /biz/.

I don't need much for myself. I'm immune to status anxiety, I actually feel most comfortable in small rooms and spaces, I don't like cities, I don't care about cars, and my biggest personal indulgence is a taste for table wine and fresh vegetables.
I am emotionally distant, so even if I wanted to provide for a family, I would be mentally absent and disturbed by the lack of solitude; I would feel almost cuckolded by myself. About the only serious need for money that I have would be my retirement and medical bills, which wouldn't be excessively high.

But I do want power over people. I've lived in the third world, and what I enjoyed most was the cheap and eager labour. Everyone called me 'sir.' I wasn't obliged to be their friend or pretend to be interested in what they had to say. By having power over them, it was like making them an object for my use.

Most financial discussion revolves around buying stocks, forex, real estate, but I want to employ people for the sheer pleasure of it. I want to provide their housing, their uniform, insinuate my control into as much of their lives as possible, like a Japanese zaibatsu. The end result of wealth seems to be total disengagement from trade, total delegation, and life as a socialite, but I only want more power and more power from that.

How do you imagine me doing this? What businesses profit from increased control of their employees; what businesses profit more from employees than contractors?

Status anxiety is the desire to impress people.
I don't want my power to be conditional on any personal song and dance routine, and I have no use for anxiety of any kind.

Not really sure if this is the best place to be asking about this, but oh well.

I'm a Math Major concentrating in Statistics, and I've recently discovered the existence of Quantitative Finance.

What books would you all recommend on the subject? Preferably something not as pricy (under 50-70$) or something with a PDF that I can download.

I've seen a few books here and there, but I'd prefer something that someone has used and recommends.

Tl;dr Quantitative Finance book recommendations.

Thanks!

Yes, definitely

I have heard that the outlook for the future of the field is rather grim, though

but I cannot verify, as I have not researched its prospects that much

Does anyone have any ideas on where to find the best royalty free stock photos for small business websites (particularly modern IT)? There are various websites offering various types of "free" but none I've seen have been any good.

Free stock photos are trash. Try http://www.istockphoto.com/plans-and-pricing $4 each if you buy 10

Look up stock image and the reverse image search in google to find a non-watermarked one.

Unless your site is really really popular already, just steal them, worst case scenario you get a cease & desist kek.
Once you make some real money, just buy some other ones.

I recently found a niche for reselling certain things on amazon and I've made a little over $1,000 last month. My investment has been limited and I only spent about 3 hours a week to make this. I also work a full-time job that is completely unrelated.

Anyway, does anybody here sell on Amazon? Any tips or insight? I was also curious to know about taxes and whatnot. Specifically, how do I go about proving that the money I got in sales is X% profit versus my cost for products?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1294579
I take it you are shipping the stuff to Amazon and they are shipping it to customers?

If so then you should try shipping it yourself.
>>
>>1294585

Nah I haven't messed with FBA at all. I ship everything myself. When I read the fine print and saw fees for storing my items, plus lower profit margins I decided against FBA.
>>
>>1294587
You might see a higher number of sales, though. People like Amazon packaging, and they know what to expect in terms of delivery times.

Got rich during a real estate boom period and otherwise plays the Warren Buffet game (wait for bubbles to burst and buy fundamentally valid/strong investments when everyone else is selling, wait for markets to rebuild).

Wrote Rich Dad Poor Dad which is a solid read that isn't too complex or boring. Essentially, the rich buy assets (investments, businesses, stocks, bonds, investment real estate, education for "worthy" pursuits etc.) and the poor buy liabilities (shiny new car leases, non-investment properties, student debt for useless passionless pursuits, etc.).

Finally, he's a former marine and while 90% of the time he plays the "I'm rich and smart card" once in a while he lets the marine out and cusses/swears/drinks/calls people pussies, etc.
>>
He does not understand that to get out of the rat race and invest you need a significant sum of money, and most people can't just save their paychecks because they have to survive, i.e. eat and pay their bills.

Also, investing is a risk most people can't take
