My dad keeps buying shitty beater cars for like 2-4K and whenever they break down just putting 200-500 to fix them for a couple months enstead of just buying a new one. This has gone on for a couple years now. How do I tell him he is stupid? I've already told him I would buy him a brand new car, and he suggested me to buy a cheap car to save money.
Pic related, similar to what he drives
Buying a new car is just as dumb, unless you have the money to burn. The best option is a less than 6 year old car with less than 70k miles or so
That's like buying $10 boots that last 2 months because it's "cheaper" than the $100 pair that lasts 5 years

How much debt is too much debt? This is going towards a marketing degree.
>>1290695
Any dept is too much dept for a marketing degree
>>1290695
You're being paid $30k to do a degree... Awesome
Are you actually getting 40k in aid or is that a bullshit estimate that they made-up?
If so, I would suggest not enrolling and simply going to the lectures for free since they seem to be good enough with their own marketing to convince you that it's a good deal when it really isn't.
Would a major in electrical engineering be good for someone thinking about doing a tech start up?
I'd really like to design FOSS hardware
>>1290411
No, do comp eng or math/finance
>>1290411
The majority of EE action happens in SE Asia these days. I agree with the other poster about CS/Math being more suitable for our "post manufacturing" economy (assuming you live in the West).
>>1290411
If you want to start a software tech startup (like in sillicon valley) I would go with compsci, if you like hardware (sensors, electrical circuits, embedded systems) with a bit of programming, go for EE (like myself, well mechatronics actually).
It doesn't really matter what you study, you can all begin a business. The succes rate of businesses isn't decided by what you study, imo your own abillity and level of skills are more important.
Let's help each other by giving tips and feedback related to running a startup/small business.
So a bit about me.
>20 Years old
>Been investing and trading stocks since age 12
>Lived abroad most of my life (china, US, Japan) (I'm born in sweden)
>Started the company around 2 months ago with a close friend
>had next to no capital to start a company with so we had to find something that was not capital intensive
>Find niche in market
>work 100h weeks for 1 month developing the business plan, going to meeting for counselling, and market researching
>After two months we've now gotten our first investor
>Our company is valued at 1 million
We're about to go to a trade show and I was wondering if biz has any tips for us.
Our main problem is that our competitors look a lot more professional when compared to us, while they in reality know less about the industry and tech we're both using. How do we differentiate ourselves from them and how that although we might not look more knowledgeable (we're both 20) we are.
>help eachother by giving tips
>offers no tips
>wants tips
Heres a tip, stop expecting people to care about you. Especially if you dont offer anything to them first.
>>1290257
Well without asking for specific input it's kind of hard to give you useful tips that you wouldn't have been able to find by googling "startup tips".
/biz/ and forums are about discussion, being specific and adapting my imput (where I can) depending on who's asking should be a good thing.
But hey you can just read any start-up book if you want general tips that apply to everyone.

With Warren Buffet having won the argument about index tracker funds giving better returns over long periods than managed funds, what is the point of bothering with buying and selling stocks at all? Why not just invest in an index tracker investment? Am I missing something?
Because you can get higher returns on the individual stocks than the indices if you pick correctly. Only the highest gainers are obviously better than an index of all winners and losers
Most people are bad traders, don't care enough, or are just too stupid to do it themselves
For example the biggest holding in my portfolio is Amazon up 35% since I bought I February. Even with the rest of my mediocre portfolio I'm still up a much greater percentage than the S&P500 since February

>Most people are bad traders, don't care enough, or are just too stupid to do it themselves
Warren's bet was against the top investment firms in the world and the index tracker is still currently winning overall:

>since February
I'm talking about long term, i.e. 10 years plus. This wager seems to show that even the best fund managers in the world make less overall than the index trackers.

What effect do you think the halving of bitcoin payouts will have on Bitcoin price?
Fortune.com suggests that it may cause a price crash and destabilization, at least, for a while.
http://fortune.com/2016/06/05/as-bitcoin-payouts-halve-uncertainty-looms/
Coindesk.com mulls over the same thing...
http://www.coindesk.com/crisis-halving-bitcoin-mining/
"Chandler Guo founder of Bitbank said he fears that if the price of bitcoin does not appreciate significantly before or immediately after halving, too much hashrate will drop off the network due to unprofitable mining, making transaction verification virtually impossible."
I figured the halving should cause a increase in price due to both increased scarcity of Bitcoins and to make mining still worthwhile, just my opinion though.
Anyone with a brain should have been making money since January 2015 when it bottomed, and I recommended to get all in.
So scenario 1) It corrects: Good, time to buy the dip and keep growing
Scenario 2) It keeps growing: Just continue sitting on my ass looking how my BTC are worth thousands of dollars more on a daily.
You just can't lose.
I was around for the first halving.
I've been mining, buying and holding bitcoin since 2012
The price is going to skyrocket in the coming months. Expect at least $2,000 for one bitcoin.
pic-related, me mining on a $200 GPU in 2012 when 1 BTC was $10.

I have $10,000 cash in Vanguard.
I want a medium risk medium reward investment. I personally believe we are headed towards a mild economic recession around the world, and a profit recession in America.
Where should I invest? Treasuries are problematic because the Fed keeps talking up interest rates.
Oil is already off its lows and will likely stay around $50-60.
Commodities are dependent on a slowing China.
Stocks in the US are at all-time high P/E.
Housing is at record prices.
I was thinking about investing in Latin American bonds/stocks. Is this a good idea?

Is getting rich in cryptocurrencies respectable and red pill? Would you respect someone who made their fortune that way?
It's respectable if there is some real utility in the coin, like ethereum. That was one reason I switched from btc to eth, because I saw btc as nothing more than a ponzi scheme.
As far as redpilled goes, yes it's redpilled because it's anti-establishment and provides an option for the white race to save itself (Ethereum DAO that pays women to have white babies, and works in other ways to save the race).

- Anyone here have a successful and durable experience in forex trading ?
- What's techniques did you use ?
- With how much money did you begin ?
- Gives me advice for a beginner like me, please.
I am really sad when i read specialized forums in forex, why?
Because all the trading journal I read ends the same way :
They end up losing all their gains and have their account to 0 dollars, after 6 months or 1 year.
I need testimonials from people who really live forex successfully since several years.
http://forums.babypips.com/newbie-island/70214-truth-about-forex-you-cant-become-rich.html
I think this method is the best to learn forex or index cfd:
Depositing tiny amount less than € 200 and try to make it grow until 1000, once in 1000 reached 900 withdraw.
With the remaining € 100, try to grow them again to € 1,000, remove 900 ... etc.
Do it 10 times successfully
Instead of dropping € 50,000, losing after six months, redeposit € 20,000 and lose again after one week.

Scandium makes aluminum lighter and stronger. It will go into wide spread use in Autos,Planes Bikes thus improving fuel efficiency and cutting costs for companies. THIS virtually unknown alloying ingredient will push the next wave of engineering revolution. http://www.mining.com/web/whos-heard-of-scandium/

This metal’s two main uses are in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and in scandium-aluminum alloys.
SOLID OXIDE FUEL CELL...do you know what this means??
>>1287432
The buzz is with the lithium for the production of the lithium battery....well these fuel cells may be a competitor or maybe a outright winner.
so how do I invest in it?
I know for space travel fuel cell will be necessary?
Maybe they can use sunlight to charge batteries idk how consistent that is.
