Anyone on /biz/ with a criminal record? How has it affected your employment and general financial life?

A few months ago I got popped for driving with expired plates. I had marijuana on me (possession and paraphernalia charge). Although I wasn't drunk, the douche cop still tried to get me for a DUI (even after blowing a 0.000). My urine has pot in it (obviously), so technically they can get me there, but my lawyer and I are still fighting it.

Since getting arrested I finished my first semester of graduate school and am holding a 3.8 GPA. I got, and have been excelling at, a small, paid legal research internship, which has me thinking about law school.

I'm generally aiming for professional, white collar work. This fall I'm going to apply to law school and PhD programs because I don't think my degree is too sought after in the job market by itself right now.

I feel like I'm in a better financial/academic situation than most people on the internet who complain about how a DUI ruined their life, so I'm wondering if anyone on /biz/ has any ideas or advice for me moving forward.

Many months ago a guy on this forum told me to do an internship with my state representatives, in order to have a REALLY REALLY good letter of recommendation from someone with real clout. That was an awesome idea and I would appreciate more like that. Or even just name-calling is cool too.

Your experience with jobs/internships and academic record will generally reflect higher than a few fuck ups. Most jobs do unfortunately look at your criminal record so be prepared to explain that to them. It definitely will lessen your value to a company but unless its some government organization with super strict no tolerance rules it won't be a huge deal.

I posted on another thread >>1300694. I had a good handful of internships coming out of my cs/math undergrad a half year ago, but 2 years ago got charged with a drunken disorderly which is probably more severe than a small paraphernalia charge. I got hired right out of school with pretty good pay for my area, but I did have to respond to the HR guy when I got an unexpected call asking to explain the incident. I mean it's not good, but it really isn't the end of the world.

>not getting an expungement
Maybe you are not cut out for law.
>>
>>1301228

Why do you think I haven't looked into that? Or are you not aware that expungements are controlled on a state-by-state basis? It is getting increasingly harder to expunge traffic violations (and even non-traffic charges incurred during a traffic stop).

Eth shillers claim eth will be on par if not better than btc beacause of the new features and perks. What's stopping btc from upgrading?

Lots of things. The whole POW hashing system for one.

Basically the mining network has been 51% by 3 chinese nationals who will prevent any upgrades that will put them out of business, that is why bitcoin cant even raise the blocksize.

Also butcoin blocks take like 40minutes meaning 3 confirmations can sometimes take hours.

Butcoin is fucked six ways from sunday. Only the naiive and stupid and uninformed are still breathing life in to the dying husk that it is.

Better sell now and get ethereum

there was some guy posting here selling fake credit/debit cards.
ive been looking into it further. you can buy just the data from him and make your ownc cards and then just take the money from random atms.

it's a very risky business but so is drug dealing. if i were to do it i would first move to a different country like russia and start there.
>>

>buy drugs

Just grow weed. Everyone can do it and you can expect 600-1000 grams every 4 months with a small grow. Sell it for $10-$20 a gram and you made it

Hey /ausbiz/

Let's take a break from speculating on ASX small cap lithium mining companies and talk about bonds. How the fuck do I buy them and/or an index of bonds?

I use Comsec for buying shares, but am at my wits end as to how to invest in bonds - who do I use and how do I get my hands on them. I'm looking to buy Australian government and corporate bonds.

Burgers and leafs are welcome to contribute with their experience in the logistics of buying bonds.

Come on, you faggots have got to be awake by now. Look at "BOND", an ETF on the ASX managed by SPDR.
>>
>>1300533
Go to a bond broker with $5k min. and do your research before you buy. I'd suggest starting with t-bonds with varying maturities and then add some STRIPS to spice things up. Increase from thereon with as little or as much risk as you can stomach. Enjoy passive income.
>>
>>1300921
Who the fuck "goes" to their broker anymore? How do I do this online - it's 2016 and all that John Oliver crap.

Looking at a $15k purchase.

give me the cold hard truth. how much of a bullshit ponzi scheme is this? there are clearly risks in any investment. i have over 20 bitcoins. lets say I toss 2 into this bullshit. chances are, i'll get at least some of it back, right? can anyone actually be serious rather than being a shill and blurting out "ITZ LE SCAM I SAW IT ON LEDDIT"?

its still paying out at the moment but it has hallmarks of a ponzi.. like a 360% yield per year..

but it could be legit, as crypto trading is still highly lucrative.. HashOcean says they make profits trading other crypto's as well

I'd say go for it.. but dont invest anything you cant lose.. take caution
>>

Criteria to help you spot a cloud mining scam/ponzi.

1) No public mining address / no user selectable pool.
A cloud mining company that wont let you direct the hashrate to your pool of choosing and cant prove its actually mining bitcoins itself, is very likely a scam. There is no reason to hide mining address or not sign blocks. None.

2) No endorsement from any asic vendor
Asic vendors will gladly make a simple post to show the company in question is a significant customer of theirs. Its free advertisement for them and it helps their customer grow their business, so there is absolutely no reason they wouldnt. If a (cloud) mining company cant get any asic vendor to post such endorsement, you should assume they dont have any hardware to mine with.

3) No relevant pictures of their hardware and datacenter
There is no reason not to provide such pictures, except of course, if there is nothing to take pictures off. Mind you: pictures can be faked. Picture dont prove current ownership. So like all criteria listed here, by themselves they are by far insufficient proof.

4) Open ended IPO / fractional reverse mining risk
Unless the cloud mining is operated by the asic vendor himself, you can not sell an unlimited amount of hashrate. Hardware takes (usually a long) time to order, arrive and deploy. Any company that doesnt limit sales or make public how much hashrate they sold vs what they have (provably) deployed should be considered suspicious.

5) Referral programs and social networking
Referral programs, especially ones that pay almost 10%, are a huge red flag. The mining market is cut throat with razor thin margins. No real company can afford to pay 10% referrals on below market cloudmining prices. Referral programs almost always serve only to feed the ponzi and provide financial incentive to posters to lie about the true nature of the company. Never trust anyone with a referral link in their sig.
>>
6) Anonymous operators
If the operators are hiding behind whoisguard, provide no provable identity and especially when, like in some cloudmining cases, they use demonstrably false ID or company registration information, you have to be nuts to trust them with your money.

7) No exit strategy
If you cant sell your position, you cant get your money out. Thats the ideal case for a ponzi and allows it to run for a long time.

8 ) Bonus point for "guaranteed profit"
So far, Ive only seen bitcoinmaker.ch do this. If anyone guarantees you a bitcoin denominated profit, and especially a 30+% one, you can be sure its a ponzi, all the other criteria become unimportant. There is no such thing as certain profit when it comes to mining, no one knows how the network will evolve, or what btc exchange rate will do. If anyone could somehow be certain of making a 30% profit, they wouldnt need your money (and they wouldnt give the profit to you).

>hashocean.com 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8 => 7/7 = Ponzi
