Sup /biz/.

I took an elective last semester on Corporate Finance and found out I liked it a lot. We barely grazed the topic of stock market investments so I've got the most novice understanding of the market. Are there reputable online courses I can take to understand valuation of stocks and corporations to help with personal investing?

OP here: Just to give you guys something in return - my final project was on evaluating Under Armour Inc. (UA), and it turns out that UA has a ROE, ROC, and ROA of 14% each compared to the 8% market average. The CEO takes a salary of only $20k with everything else in stock shares, so he's been making sure the company does well. It's got a 100% re-investment strategy so the growth stock has doubled its revenues in the past 4 years.

Just some food for thought. May be good to look at as a defensive stock (beta ~0.7).

Keep taking finance classes or just major in it. I'm in my last year undergrad majoring in finance and its fucking great. I genuinely can't wait to start up fall semester.

If you don't wanna major then i suggest 2 textbooks: intermediate corporate finance and Equity Analysis. these two will give you a more well rounded understanding of the markets, valuations, and the corporate side of finance.

how do i approach this situation amigos, should i just run up on these guys resume on hand and sweet talk them?

Hello I want a job
>>
I'd definitely bring a resume just in case. Then follow the "dress one step above the position you'll be working" rule. So if they have a work uniform you'd be wearing, then probably wouldnt hurt to wear button-down + tie. Do your sweet talking, OP. Come in early during the day for better results. Good luck!

That's an ad for mass hiring. If you even sound a little bit excited to work there they will likely hire you. Bring your resume and your best ass kissing face

>first person in working-class family to go to college
>top student in quality high school; excelled at math/science
>apply to only one school and get accepted into engineering
>finally get to the engineering courses junior year
>it's fucking gut wrenchingly boring
>can't transfer credits elsewhere due to program structure. would probably have to start all over
>end up salvaging undergrad credits in their small business school with a business management degree

So now I'm done, but I have no direction. I have a business management degree composed of high-level math/science, lean/sixsigma courses, and a series of finance courses. I have limited programming experience (matlab/sql) but am very adept to learning it.

What sort of entry level positions would /biz/ recommend? How can I leverage my unorthodox coursework to help me find a role in the business world?

Hey I'm 18 and am going to college in the fall for a major in finance.
I've been researching the markets for a year now and I feel like I'm ready to start investing my money. I have like 4000 dollars.
I just have no idea where to start though.
Also, any advice or long term stocks that you think could help me?

Yes. I don't think it's particularly useful for improving your own social skills but it's interesting to analyse others behavior with it in mind. Especially older people in business.

Where so you all keep those funds?

Mine has been in a savings account for a few years. I can do better than .75%.

For better or worse, a savings account or money market fund is the best place. An emergency fund, by definition, needs to be highly liquid so that you can access the monies quickly if needed.

I understand the desire to seek better returns. However, it's best to avoid stocks, ETFs and similar equity assets because the volatility is too high. Bonds or bond ETFs are a possibility, but there is volatility risk there too (not as much, obviously, but enough to be wary).

Another option is certificates of deposit (CDs) which pay slightly better than savings accounts. They're not entirely liquid, however, you'd want to ladder them.

If your emergency fund is equivalent to 6 months or less of your ordinary living expenses, then stick with the savings account. The low interest rate is the simply price of security and prudent planning.

If you've got 9-24 months of living expenses saved, you could consider laddering bulk into tiers. This would increase your returns, slightly.

If you've got 12-24 months saved, you could consider putting 25-50% into a short-term bond fund. It's a bit more risk for a bit more return, but probably safe overall.

Personally, I keep 24 months in cash in a savings account. The additional hassle of seeking a few extra basis points in interest just isn't worth it to me.

Remember: An emergency fund is like an insurance policy. Yes it costs you a little in lost investment opportunity, but it can save your ass if you need it.

Unless that it literally your entire investment, in which case you're even dumber.

FAQs

They invest your unsettled funds after a trade.
It's also pretty basic software.

> When is it coming to my country?
Probably never. They only have plans on an Australian beta ( https://robinhood.com/au/).

> It's been X days, why isn't my account isn't verified yet?
If it takes more than 3 days, try emailing their support. They are very good.

> Is this the right place to pump and dump and/or shill a worthless stock?
No, please go to Stocktwits, Plebbit, or one of our many chat groups.

> What's a good penny stock to invest in?
Don't buy penny stocks you cum guzzling mouth breathing retard.

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, am I being jewed?
No, that would actually be illegal. Robinhood graphs are just shit and only show you an average, not-really-realtime price. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
thinkorswim is bretty gud if you want to go open a second account with real broker.
Otherwise you should be using Yahoo/Google finance or even Stocktwits for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

Hello /biz/
I seek your wisdom. I know there are a few of you who were smart enough to see the path and increase your money.

I am 26 year old, i am getting my life back on track, i am going to college. My goal is to have my own apartment by 30. I am good saving, i don't drink, i don't waste my money stupidly. I have a part time job. I can get maybe around 500 bucks a month free after all expenses are paid. How should i invest them? What should i do with it? I know saving alone won't give me much interest.

Thank you for any advice.

It's best to put 100 to 200 dollars into trump coin. In a couple of months it will be at the moon and your profit will astound you. But keep in mind this isn't an investment it's just a quick way to make some good profit
>>
Fuck that man. Not so sure how much I trust trump coin. Bit coin value is currently sky rocketing as we know so I'd invest there.

Im around that age. my net worth is around 80k.. Just sayin'.. it aint easy.. took me at least 10 years to save all that up.. Im a freelancer so i dont work full time.

with your $500 a month.. you can save up to 6000 per year.. Should take you 2-6 of years to save up for a deposit on your own pad assuming your income stays the same

I invest in diversified ETF's.. the yields arent anything to write home about, but far better than a savings deposit

I invested in bitcoin a while back too.. although i didnt get rich from it.. Its value has so far outperformed my stocks

Investing will get you a good yield, but dont expect yields above 10% constantly

Obviously this is a stupid way to keep my money. What does /biz/ think I should do with my money? I've got some people saying I should stick it in a mutual fund, others saying I should play the stock market, others recommending an IRA. None of these people are rich, so I'd like to get another opinion if possible.
