I want money to gain power over people, /biz/.
I don't need much for myself. I'm immune to status anxiety, I actually feel most comfortable in small rooms and spaces, I don't like cities, I don't care about cars, and my biggest personal indulgence is a taste for table wine and fresh vegetables.
I am emotionally distant, so even if I wanted to provide for a family, I would be mentally absent and disturbed by the lack of solitude; I would feel almost cuckolded by myself. About the only serious need for money that I have would be my retirement and medical bills, which wouldn't be excessively high.
But I do want power over people. I've lived in the third world, and what I enjoyed most was the cheap and eager labour. Everyone called me 'sir.' I wasn't obliged to be their friend or pretend to be interested in what they had to say. By having power over them, it was like making them an object for my use.
Most financial discussion revolves around buying stocks, forex, real estate, but I want to employ people for the sheer pleasure of it. I want to provide their housing, their uniform, insinuate my control into as much of their lives as possible, like a Japanese zaibatsu. The end result of wealth seems to be total disengagement from trade, total delegation, and life as a socialite, but I only want more power and more power from that.
How do you imagine me doing this? What businesses profit from increased control of their employees; what businesses profit more from employees than contractors?

Started, ran, and passed off a few organizations and businesses. Employees, volunteers, and even people that only know you through word of mouth ride the ever living fuck out of you. I don't think OP really knows what he wants when he's talking about "power" especially if it doesn't seem like he has power over himself.

The essential problem here is that I am mixing business and pleasure. If I want to increase the pleasure of control, the control needs to be profitable, or at least destructive of other employers.
For small-scale manufacturing, 3d printers seem to preclude more than the bare minimum of employees.
Farming is more labour intensive, but very shaky unless you're dealing with some kind of niche crop. There's also the carefree prole problem: this would diminish my control.
White collar stuff either requires independence and autonomy in workers, or can be automated within a decade or two.
The core pleasure here is reducing people to tools, but automation is stealing the show. I think I might have to settle for niche agriculture, but even then the nerd in me whispers: "Hydroponics..."
A brothel? Very much a people business, no autonomy, but unhygienic. Also, legal problems. I like small spaces but not barred off spaces.
A cult? Actually, this might be the best option, but it's not exactly easy.

To get off topic, the fedora mentality is quite interesting. They take the juvenile heroes they admire and try to turn into them, with no awareness of how other people perceive them. Far from trying to impress people, they're actually trying to admire themselves. It's masturbatory.
I expect the same kind of people become crossdressers, despite not being attracted to men. In that case, they are trying to be attracted to themselves, in an equally asocial and masturbatory way.
