If you can, piggyback off of someone elses credit card (parents, grandparents, family). They don't even need to give you a card to use, just add you to their account. All the sudden, their good credit history become yours.

If this isn't an option, try to apply for an unsecured card with the highest limit and lowest apr. Use it for small expenses and pay it off every month. It will take some time to build a good score so do it sooner rather than later.

Get a card. I have a CBA one and have always paid my balance on time. Just don't be a retard and you're fine. Cards without annual fees are good, don't worry about any of that awards points bullshit.

With my CBA card, I'm on awards but it's pretty shit. Spending around $1000 a month I make enough awards points to buy petrol vouchers worth slightly more than the annual fee.

I wouldn't worry about getting a great credit rating in Australia.
Unless you plan to finance cars and furniture for the rest of your life it doesn't really matter. Banks don't care very much about credit ratings when giving mortgages unless you have a bad one.

Set up an investment account and have a significant portion of your earnings direct deposited into it each month. Pick a split of funds you like, roll over any dividends and coast. Open and max out a Roth and use your work 401k for whatever they will match.

Marry a virgin who has a STEM degree and no interest in children. Devote the early portion of your careers to slavishly climbing the ladder until you're worth at least a mil. Then you can take a breather.
