Is being overly nice to customers/clients a turn-off?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
People will say no if asked in such a way, but my experience is that it depends. Most people prefer someone who is pleasant and friendly and agreeable even if it is a put on personality and or a little excessive. I've been in the retail world for a while and have learned when someone is being fake nice but at a certain point it just becomes part of their personality with some people. It's kind of sad.
>>
I hate being patronized. I hate fake smiles. It's the sign of a liar or an incompetent.

I typically know 5x as much about a product as the representative a vendor sends me, and I know jack about the product to begin with. Thankfully I have the discretion to tell them to get the fuck out of my office and send me an engineer who will actually be working on the product. They aren't as good at lying, even if they are inclined to do so, and actually know the product. Butter them up with some premium coffee and I can actually get shit done without marketing equivocations. Saves weeks of time pissing back and forth.

Compare marketing.
>Can you do (obscure subset of tasks)?
>Of course! We can do (something vaguely related to that)!
>Round and round with no, I mean this, that's what I said. Stop being overly broad.
>Product can't do what we want
>Spend months waiting for it to get fixed.

to the guy writing the code
>Can you do (obscure subset of tasks)?
>Hmm... We can't do that without rebuilding (such and such) module, but we COULD do that.
>Makes sense. What would that take? How long? How much? ,etc.
>Without getting too specific, we could probably do it in a month. We'd need to partially rework (other module) as well since it depends on (such and such).
>Oh, we don't need (other module) at this time. How long would it take to get things running without that?
>2 weeks. Well maybe 3 weeks because (person)'s working on (other project) for (other company) and he knows that part of the system better than I do.
>I understand. When can you start?
>Product does what we want, and the schedule is actually realistic.

Seriously. Fuck marketing. Fuck insincerity. Being professional doesn't involve being a yes man. If you can't do something, just fucking tell me and stop wasting my time. I don't need stuff yesterday. I want to know when I can expect it so that I can plan around that.
>>
It depends on the person. Some people just (naturally?) respond to overly nice sappy bullshit and some don't.

Age, region, and personality all figure into this.

Also some people, more than anything, want you to kiss their ass. Some of these people care more about getting their ass kissed than getting a good deal.

Also some people are so obsessed with corporate buzzshit that they will not even hear what you are saying un less your are synergizing initiatives dynamically.

Tldr people are different. One of the best sales skills is to know your audience

Hop on the Zinc train, lads. It's in short supply, and now that markets are warming back up and Brexit fears are in decline, investors are turning their eye to Zinc. I'm going long on TV.TO, a Canadian Zinc miner, which has doubled in value since a few months ago. Outlooks give it a price range from 1.50 (most outlooks), to 1.00 (from one, the most conservative outlook). Worst case, you make a 10 cent profit, best case, your money bumps up by 40%.

One word of caution, when Zinc was low, lots of shorter tried to keep the price artificially low. Tomorrow's TV price may keep going up, but if it drops out to start, it's only temporary (you can see the same pattern occurring over the course of the last two months on Google finance charts for the company.

GLTA and happy stock-hunting.

If zinc seems too risky for you, consider buying Lucara (LUC.TO) The company is offering a special dividend of .45 for every share owned (so a guaranteed 450 on top of its regular dividend) because they felt bad about their shareholders getting burned when the Lesedi la Rona failed to sell. Check Lucara 's stock chart and you'll see that if you're a long-term investor, it's a very safe bet. (In fact, diamonds are a secondary hedge for millionaires when it comes to market insecurity.)
>>
Lastly, if you want a very stable long-term investment that shows potential for quadrupling in the next 4-5 months, take a look at organigram (OGI.TO). It's a cheap marijuana company that hasn't had a news story in a few weeks. Whenever one hits, it's price bumps up. It's also set to explode once Canadian marijuana legislation is brought to light in November.

Would it be cool if a website/app existed that listed every notable country in the world, along with a way where you can learn about the history of each country's history?

Imagine clicking on a country, then selecting your era, then selecting your topic of interest. This would be followed up with a video and a narrator ala Crash Course series

When you select a country, the eras/topics to choose from will be on the right side or whatever, and it'll show you a map view of where all the topics are geographically located

I was inspired by this idea when I stumbled over how Brazil had a civil war. I was like waaaaaaaaaaaaat

>internships will coat your resume in gold they said
>it's meaningful experience for your career they said

Uhm what the fuck. I just graduated in May, and I'm working my 3rd paid internship at 25$/hr + stipend at a large corporation. Picked my boss's brain about the possibilities of staying on full-time "uhh hurr durr we didn't get approved for a new hire for our budget and we're hiring a new manager in charge of the financing stuff, so we can extend your internship for a month at best". I'm getting shit on with every job app and everyone in my network is in an entry-level position, meaning they have fuck-all pull with who gets hired at their companies and who doesn't.

This is my 3rd fucking paid internship, and like the other two before this one, is apparently going to render me lurking indeed and LinkedIn for 8 hours a night again

"Meaningful work experience my ass". Maybe I'm just shit at the jobs I do? People say shit like keep up the good work and I get my deliverables in on time or ahead of schedule, show up early stay late etc.

Fuck this why can't I get a full-time job? Maybe I'll just look to selling weed or something to pay for my rent and car.

How do I become actually employed?

>>

Hah, I had a friend who did the same. Miraculously he got his money back in the end, but that's all he did.

Explain it to your friend that the only way he's making serious money is if he can shill this shit to enough people. Unless he has a really good plan for roping in enough suckers he shouldn't try on empty beliefs.

Have him defend his plan to you, don't push too hard, enjoy the outcome if he does go through with it.

Investing in Developing/Developed countries?

I feel there are larger opportunities to make a lot of money in developing and developed countries. I speak fluent Spanish and English and have an Inside Sales and Sales operations background.

Any business opportunities in a country like Mexico?

Yes I also look at developing countries and imagine the potential there. Even soemthing small like say, buying a shop, I dunno, any shop it could sell baskets or computers or cigarettes, whatever, ina country like Kenya.

What offer would get me more customers? I want to start freelancing more, and maybe use a penetration pricing strategy.

1)
>$1 website and web server pentest - detecting both web application-based and server software vulnerabilities

2)
>$1 whitehat Search Engine Optimization of moderate quality

3)
>$5 website creation using WordPress, costs of customizing the theme backend and front end code, as well as the costs of installing WordPress included
