Starting a new small business

I want to get potential clients to try out my services (they already utilize the services of my competitors)

I am thinking about running either a 50% discount for the first time someone uses my services OR doing it completely free..

I am not particularly worried about doing a free job if it can lead to repeat business (it would only cost me time + fuel) and I think doing a free job is quite an aggressive way of forcing myself into the market and that many would take advantage of the offer.. My concern is that people may use the offer and then go back to using their regular service provider. I have also heard that people do not respect the things that they get for free.

I am also considering a follow up promotion where I give a % discount for the second job (to a max of 50%) when I the client rates me 5 stars on various social media and review platforms.

Really would appreciate some thoughts as I am undecided on which route to take.

Thanks

Go ask those customers if they are happy with their current solution. Find out what you can do better and if that provides enough value for them to switch. Switching customers is tough, even if your service is cheaper. You need to find out the best way to pitch it. It's not just about the cost of the service.
>>
working for free is begging to get used over and over again. Just like you said, theyll use you for the first free turn then toss your info in the trash, unless its a service that requires a quality output and you blow the competition out of the water.

normally in my experience as long as youre cheaper than the competition/what they use specifically, your conversion rate is normally decent. People like to save money so theyre normally willing to give things a trial run

personally if you were going to compete via discounts, I'd offer something like 35/50/75% off first service when you sign up for a 6 month contract, etc.
>>
>>1398856

I should have just said that I am doing interior photography (real estate)

My prices are comparable to my competition (not cheaper), the service I provide is almost identical in regards to the quality of images produced (everyone uses the same equipment and techniques) though I try to go the extra mile when possible (not always possible due to time restrictions).

I work for a few clients already, work is in abundance.. I thought ifI could get my foot in the door with a few new clients then once they know me it would lead to more work (they basically just use who they know) at least this is how it has been so far with my current clients.

Dear /biz/,

I am a frugal SOB and I don't like spending my hard earned cash. Much worse, I can't stand getting ripped off.

I am into bodybuilding and I recently bought a few hundred dollars of supplements online. I do it all the time. I decided to go with a new company who makes their own. I use Paypal checkout and the box is shipped.

I start reading online that I got scammed. Basically the company is cutting their whey protein with fillers and it shows in independent testing. Sort of like cutting coke. To make matters worse, they are misrepresenting their labels and people have called them out on it. Not surprisingly, the FAQ on their site lists a 35% restocking fee. :(

I try to refuse the package but FedEx is retarded so they still deliver it. It is damaged, so I take pictures of the box and send it back without permission. I even get FedEx to send it back for $0.

I can't get a response from the company 20 days after my order. Nothing. I open a case with PayPal and still am wating for my money back. I cited the damage to the box containing food, that they got the box back and that I want a full refund. No response from anyone yet.

What would be your next move? Do you think they are stalling for a reason? I can image PayPal keeping this open for another week.

Thanks for any advice. Makes me love Amazon more every day.

>Thanks for any advice. Makes me love Amazon more every day.

Amazon Marketplace could rip you off just the same way. But after the third or fourth angry email they'll at least reimburse you.
>>
>>1398828
What company?

Just use myprotein, bro. Probably even better prices and it's well known and tested by Labdoor
>>
>>1399562
Since I'm using Myprotein (unflavored, impact), I get this icky rash. Gonna have to stop. I really don't know what else could be causing the rash, perhaps an interaction of heat, humidity, and washing powder. But the temporal association with trying Myprotein makes it the #1 suspect.

That's not to say it's not a good product, just for me it doesn't seem right.

Could somebody create a (bitcoin) gambling site with no money in reserve?
The idea would be to only have people gamble against each other and you skim a percentage of the winnings.
Is this legal in the US?

The biggest problem I see is matching users, especially a problem when there isn't much or any traffic.

I don't know anything about online poker, is it always players vs players? Is there any reason to have some type of reserve that I'm not thinking of?

And couldn't that be extended to any game of chance. Say dice rolls until one party picks correctly, coin flips. Things that are quick are good because you want to keep going.

I also think long term current event type bets could be used to deal with this:

Hello fellow /biz/nessmen,
Today I just opened an account to trade stocks at my bank (I'm french by the way, so things might be a little different).

I am trying to see stock evolution in realtime (not for day trading, but out of pure interest).

If i go to look the CAC40's curve on my iphone default app, it shows yesterday's curve (or at least it seems like it, it show the trade has endend at 17.35 and it is 16.21 as I write this post.

My bank has an app that show the exact same curve as the iphone's. What is happening here? How can I see stock evolutions in real time?

Thanks

>inb4 how much money do you have?
>inb4 you don't know shit, stop right there

My goal is not to make tons of money short time, I'm studying (and have been) stock evolution, in an effort to make long term investments

You need a decent broker, probably.
Unfortunately, a lot of places want something in return for access to a data feed.
Usually cash to hold as a deposit.

I am from Istanbul and am 18 years old.
This year is my senior year at high school and I will be taking an exam that will determine my university.
For the last 4 years (including my prep class) I have done nothing so this whole year I will have to sort everything out, learn everything from scratch and do a great score. I know I can, but I'm having problems.

I need discipline, self-control and relentless work ethic.
I just don't want to study and procrastinate like a bitch.
Any tips on building these and also on the exam?
I need to be a warrior.

Thanks!

I'm going to be completely honest with you.

By posting here you are just distracting yourself.

If you were going to go to a good uni or do the course you want you would have committed from the start. If you want to redeem yourself, it's simple, put on an album you like and study yourself silly for the next months.

Most likely you will fail, give up and go back to your procrastinating habits like 4chan, video games etc.

Not sure if it is the right board to ask about... but is there something I don't get about second-hand goods, used markets, etc.?

I was looking for a mattress in Melbourne and I keep seeing either shit or stuff that is still highly priced... is my perception of a middle ground somewhat misled?

The mattress in the pic, for example, is $ 400... but is it worth it? How much could have been if it was new? Assuming the owner is sincere about the date of purchase... how could have been its price in 2015?

And then you have people like these ones:
>pic related
Sauce: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/thornbury/beds/king-mattress-memory-foam-2yrs-old/1118721516

Who claim:
>we bought this for $ 1,000
>after 2 years we are selling it already
>we are happy to sell it for $ 130

You read the details, and it turns out it is a foam piece of shit. I mean: look at the pic.

Of course the two products don't compare because one is a Double size, whereas the latter is a Queen... but which of the two is a strawberry? The latter looks like a lemon to me!
>>
(cont. >>1398693 )

Then you find things that look like stuff my grandma would buy, and they have the same price of shit that is sold "like new".

/biz/ have any experience dealing with the IRS? I didn't file a tax return for 2013. I did send them a check for roughly what I figured I would owe. I've gotten a letter from them asking for my return and showing that I have paid them some money. How do I go about filing a return from a couple of years ago?

You didn't file a return, but sent a check in. That's pretty damn retarted. How the shit would they know what to do with your check?

Get a copy of the cancelled check. File a 2013 return through hr block or the like. Yes, you can still file a 2013, penalties will be imposed.

You are incapable of doing your own taxes based on the information provided.

My employer is front loading pay so it starts higher and progresses slower to the same point.
This seems good because money earned now will have more value to me (putting down a deposit etc) and be less affected by inflation than money promised later.
However, am I better off saving a significant chunk now and putting life on hold to some degree and investing or spending what I earn now and enjoying it? What will be best in the long run?

It depends on your long-term goals. If you're okay with working for the next 40 years, then investing 10-15% and spending the rest is alright. If you want to retire early with a modest lifestyle, then the more you save now the better.
Also, it's always nice to develop a lifestyle which makes you happy and doesn't cost money, that way you can have your cake and eat it too.

>pic related
If you save 50% of your salary, you can retire in 10 years. This is regardless of your income.
>>
>>1398672
Your own picture disagrees with your post. The crossover point for 10 years is 65%, not 50%. 50% crosses at closer to 18 years instead.

Hello biz,

a friend of mine is trying to get me into his Microsoft products key selling job. The trick is that I need forums to advertise.

My friend is on: hack forums, Sythe and mpgh.

I tried: epvp, blackhatworld, cheapassgamer.

The forums I tried all deleted or closed my threads for one or other reason.

So my question is do you know any forums where I could quickly get the ability to post a key selling thread?

DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT sell on eBay with your real account.

I did this years back with msdn product keys or whatever the fuck it was (probably still the same shit) and they banned me for life, can't get back on. I'm too lazy to try to make a stealth account but yeah, if you are making a lot from eBay/value your account at all I heavily recommend against this.
>>
>>1398588
It's forbidden.
>>1398591
Yea, I've seen some posts on the net that they're banning people for that.
