every person has a need for companionship.
In the army you brethren are always there with you and you have a common goal. You are companions of each other, no desire to get a new gf if you dont already have a wife.

However now you are not in the army anymore, you say :

-It shows that if you actually succeed in attracting her, she really likes you.

Now your question shows that you do not have this mindset at all, so do not try faking a "Hard to get" attitude, just because you see men like that.
This is really silly. It is the same if a man would try to attract a girl by wearing professional sportswear because he observes that woman are attracted to men who express themselves this way. Not realizing the sportswear is just the expression and what the woman are really attracted to is what the expression indicates to be underneath. In this case it is money, fame and status.

So what do you do?

Think about what partner you want to attract. What type of relationship you want, shallow just to not be alone and/or physically make each other happy? Or to be partners in life, having love and an emotional bond by finding someone with certain morals, values, characteristics and goals in life.

I wouldn't stress about it. If you meet someone it's good but if you worry about hitting life milestones on a timeline you're setting yourself up for failure.

Plus as a guy you're not going to be judged for being 30 and single and childless like a woman would be.

I understand that it's not as bad for a guy as it is for a woman, but it still worries me. All of my brothers got married and finished their degrees before they hit their 30's. I'm just sitting here, never had a girlfriend, dropped out of school (not by choice, I had to work to help my dad pay his hospital bills so I couldn't study and end up failing. I feel like I'm a failure at everything and it just keeps me up at night knowing that my dad probably thinks I'm a major disappointment in just about everything.

You have to decide to start living again without keeping her in mind. Think about your goals in life, and stop making her your goal in life. Then work on achieving them.
