How do you know what college/university major is right for you? What's honestly more important, studying what you like or studying something that has more job opportunities? How do you know if a major is "your thing"?
Is it way more common to end up studying and working in an area you don't like?
And if you plan to change to a different major after spending years in one, should you in the meantime look for a job in the area of your current major (the one before you change)?

>how do you know what college / university major is right for you?

there is no way to know for sure. many many many many many adults go to school, get a degree, than hate their job field. a big problem with college is that it doesn't give you any realistic job experience. at best you get internships cuz its required but you end up only getting coffees and little things so dont actually get to experience the job itself.

the best you can do is study a subject that interests you and is known for decent career paths. you dont have to be a doctor or a lawyer. most office jobs will accept pretty much any degree as long as the office job itself isn't supoer duper ridiculous.

I manage a small business but had an associates in film. most human resource managers didn't go to college for human resource managing. many accountants didnt go to school for accounting.

>what's honestly more important, studying what you like or studying something that has more job opportunities.

when you're paying 10 grand a semester to 'study something you like' you'd better hope it has good job opportunities cuz ur wasting 80 thousand fucking dolllars 'studying something you like'.
>>
>>17326360
That being said it would suck even more to drop 80 grand without taking the opportunity to study something that interests you.

University isn't all about the job.

Find a major, or second major, or minor, that you love, and that compliments your more practical "core" major. I studied Sociology and even some philosophy (comm/semantic theory, the arts), to compliment my Business Marketing and Statistics focus. Now I work at an advertising agency.
>>
>>17326331
I switched three times before the end of my sophomore year.

I ultimately just went with the subject that was easiest for me. I went from bio to neuro and realized I hated labs. So from then I looked st my best subjects and realized theyvwere all the physical science class (physics, chem, etc.) So I just said screw it and changed to math.

I honestly never looked back so I guess it was the right choice.

Give yourself some time to grow and find out what clicks with you and what doesn't.

Had sex for the first time last night. No matter what I did, I wasn't able to finish. I usually jerk off at least once a day, and I watch a lot of porn. Does that affect this sort of thing? Is it normal to not cum?
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>17326304
you where probably nervous. first time i had sex, i never came. sex only started to feel good about the 4th time. plus, people like different things, you might not of found what you like yet.

when i used to watch porn, i used to think the girl on top was hot as fuck, although when having actual sex i dont really like the girl on top. i like being on top.
>>
>>17326304

normal in the sense that sometimes it happens but not normal in the sense that its a good sign.

it may be the porn. it may be the daily jerking. it may be that you were just nervous. it may be that you used a condom.

I cannot tell you how many men have sex with a condom, cant cum (or worse, lose their erection) and then think they are broken men simply because the condom ruined the sex. i cant maintain an erection at all.... with a condom. take it off and im good to go.

nature did not intend for sex to be your dick wrapped in latex getting its circulation cut off. frankly i dont think someones really lost their virginity til they lost it bareback, cuz even those who can cum with a condom on must not feel very good.
>>
>>17326329
i hate wearing condoms too. what are the alternatives apart from pull out?

Even the hedonism won't take my mind off my ex anymore.

Why did she betray me?

Why does she get to be happy now?

It isn't fair, and I'm not sure if I can keep pretending it isn't bothering me.

Only playing guitar helps sometimes.

Life isn't fair and things don't have to have reasons to happen. Hedonism is a poor distraction compared to improving yourself. Stop indulging your pathetic impulses and mold your situation to your liking. Life takes work and most of the effort you put in you will not get back.

I just can't compete with the horde of dudes chasing these women. Even average to below average women have legions of thirsty dudes after them. I can't attract women because of it.

Those dudes have capital. Cars, houses , apartments. All I have is honor. Which doesn't mean squat in this world.

I am 26 abd I feel I have been excluded in one of the most human activities. Havibg a relationship.

How to compete with a endless horde of thirsty dudes who armed to the teeth with capital?

When I was a teen I felt excited about the world, like it was me against the world and I had tons to accomplish.

I'm 25 now and just feel meh. Not depressed or happy but meh. Games and music and film is just meh instead of inspiring and emotional. I feel like becoming a pawn of society but getting a degree and doing what I'm supposed to do just feels meh and drained and individuality I had.

Anyone know this? How can I reverse this? I want to be excited by art and inspired and ready to take on the world and pave my own way instead of just being meh about everything.

man has this weird thing where they have to stop consuming and start creating. you enjoyed art, you were inspired by it, but you never built upon it in any way. you have noted that you are tired of consuming but you havent made the transition into creating.

so go start creating stuff.

also, getting a normal job does not take away your individuality. if all you had going for you was you didn't get a degree, than you never had any individuality to begin with, you just wished you did.

I made a thread on /sci about this yesterday without having read their sticky about coming here for major advice.

Anywho, I'm going into Environmental Science without much background knowledge in math and science, though both of which I have had an easy time picking up at community college level classes, conceptual learning comes easy to me- its just that prior, in highschool (US educational system, mind you), I didnt care about grades much. I did just enough to get B's and couldnt care any less. I hardly learned shit.

I'm concerned that I'm going into a STEM field despite this. Will college be enough to get me where I need to be? I hope I'm not going to be overwhelmed.

Im 20 and I previously was a Psych major, my first few years at community college I took on average 8 credits a semester while I figured out what I wanted to do with myself. Psychology was a good idea at first.. but it doesnt seem to employ well unless you get a graduate degree.

Also, can anyone tell me how employable Ill be with a bachelors in environmental science? Any ideas? I figure good, as the job growth looks promising, but of course there are other variables at work that I may not be considering..

What kind of career is best for someone who is shy and introverted? I mean someone who can barely talk to people.

Customer service, so you can work on that shyness and introversion. Happened to me and after a few years of it I'm pretty much a normie now talking with people. Still have my anime and videogame hobbies though.
>>
>>17326178
How do I get into customer service with no experience? Aren't they usually looking for someone with experience?
>>
>>17326188
Not really. Customer service is pretty entry-level since they sucks so much. I mean, it might help with your shyness and all that like it helped me but I had to go through so much it that I honestly don't recommend it to somebody. Working for a cleaning company or a position not involving the cash registers on a supermarket might be better for you.

My former roommate abandoned her two cats with me and now she has become impossible to contact.
Blocked me on all social media, wont answer any calls from any number, and gave me a fake address.

However i do know where she works.

So my question is: Is there any way i can legally make her come claim her goddam cats? Ive been taking care of them cause im not heartless and no one else will.

I just wanted her to at least buy more food. She just said "no" and hit me with the iron curtain. Its been 4 months of this now.

ITT: stories about and advice on how to deal with roommates

I'll start off with why I will never have roommates again:
>live with BF and 2 dogs in good-sized house
>a coworker (A) and his friend (B) come live with us until we move to a different city (6 months)
>1st month is great
>2nd month B's dog chews up quite a lot, including $100 dress shoes
>ask B to just pay for the shoes
>B never does
>5th month A and B decide to get dogs since BF and I will be out soon
>A goes behind everyone's back and goes to the pound to pick out a dog
>BF is livid because 5 dogs in one house is illegal where we live
>A and B get violent with BF
>BF and I stay at his parents for a while
>A and B apologize to landlord and act like good little boys yet talk shit to BF and me
>BF and I decide to stay with his parents during 6th month while A and B stay at the house
>BF and I are in new city by the time the landlord's secretary calls to tell me A and B are out of the house
>apparently they only cleaned their rooms while the rest of the house is trashed
>100% of deposit is in my name
>very small chance I'll get any of it back now thanks to them

I am so livid and just want to chew them out but what good would that do? The landlord has tried to help me out since I've been renting with him for years but he has a job to do and I have to understand. All I can hope for is the landlord gives a terrible reference anytime A and B need to rent somewhere new.

Your boyfriend sounds like a bitch.

If my roommate brought home a dog, he'd soon be missing one dog, and one window, because I'm booting that dog out his bedroom window.

There's household rules, and if you don't follow them, there's household consequences.

No fucking dogs are allowed in my house.
>>
>>17326176
>Your boyfriend sounds like a bitch
Because he didn't want 5 dogs in the house? Tbh I didn't either but I'm too scared/passive to speak up for anything. That's one reason why a lot of this happened. He didn't want 5 dogs because he was home the most and ended up taking care of all the dogs, even the roommate's who said he would take care of his own dogs. He was also tired of things getting chewed up by the roommate's dog (even if off the floor and hidden from plain sight, he'd find a way to get to it) without taking responsibility for it.

I agree though: no more dogs. We were only able to bring one dog with us while the other dog is back with my mom and I don't want any more dogs in the house.
>>
>>17326224
Not because he didn't want 5 dogs in the house, because he allowed 5 dogs in the house.

Call animal control, crush glass up in hamburger meat, kick them out a window, beat your dog bearing roomates up for even thinking about crowding your home with dogs.

I wouldn't stand for that shit in my house, why is he? Oh, right. He's a bitch.

Anyone know if its too late to make it into college for the fall semester? I just walked out on my job. Didn't feel like the job was even worth staying in. I've got the gi bill going for me also so I can go to pretty much any college.

It's probably too late to receive any financial aid for this school year. Even though you have GI Bill access, most financial aid is already accounted for. Your best bet is to call financial aid at a college you're interested in.

I have never before been on a date that didn't end in sex (not that I've been on many - was stuck in LTR for nine years out together, during my 20s.)

I don't know what I want. Obviously I'd like to have sex, since I'm on a 3+ months dry spell, but not sure if I should lead her towards that, or just see where she wants to take it. Maybe slow is good for a change, but don't want to miss out in case she's eager for the D. I'm usually the anon who give younger guys advice on what to do on dates, but she's the one asking me out, and she seems like the kind of woman who knows what she wants. Is it best to just ease into it, or should I lead no matter what, so she doesn't get impatient?

On a sidenote, she's not as attractive as most of the women I've been with, and I've been known to experiences difficulties getting hard with women who aren't Kiera Knightly tier. Should I tell her that I'm slow to begin with, but as soon as I'm comfortable I usually have a high sex drive, or is that a total turn-off and should only be said if everything fails?
