Holy shit they actually added option to turn off tank-controls for Nintentoddlers
>>4000538
That's so "came out on different platform almost two years later and without the other games in series"
>>4000538
>only for
wat
>>4000538
great observation.
I was having a lot of fun until dungon 5 and those blue darknuts. It's not just one but two fucking rooms. Are you just expected to beat the dungeon and the next 1 or 2 so you have enough hearts to get the magic sword so you can come back and get the flute? Isn't the flute basically required to beat the boss?
use bombs
I think I hit that exact same roadblock back when I first played it.
You need to git better, this is not the last time you'll face that many of them at once.
Try practicing your hit&run techniques. Approach, stab, and get out of there immediately, independent whether it was a good hit or not. Their patterns are unpredictable, so stay away from them as much as possible. Don't let them corner you. Approach only to attack and get away immediately.
>>4000449
This, this right fucking here. Everyone who ever complains about the darknuts aren't using their bombs. Kite the fuckers into a tightly packed group, drop bomb, repeat. You can easily wipe 3 at once with some practice.
Now getting your sword taken away from you deep in a dungeon in the second quest is a kick in the dick. Hope you brought potion faggot.
What's the game you wanted but couldn't get before the price went higher than you were willing to pay?
I really should get around selling my PSX games before they completely rot away. Shame they're mostly NTSC and I'm in yurop. Shipping back to murrika costs an arm and leg.
Really? I picked it up for only $20 last summer
>>3999838
Shining Force 3
I already had a huge collection of games in the past. Pretty much if you can name it and wanted to have it, I bought it before it was popular/expensive.
I bought Earthbound WITH the guide for $25 in 1995
So I'm in the market for usb controller adapters for PC.
Which ones are the best? Every time I go to retrousb's website they're out of stock of pic related, and every other one looks like cheap and reviews complain of input lag.
Any suggestions? Thanks. Also, while I'm at it, what are the best ones for Sega Saturn and N64?
Those $2 blue V-shaped ones from China work fine as far as Playstation controller adapters go.
>>3998105
I'll look into it
>>3998087
There's no best, they are all just dpinut based adapters, just get the most cheapest and generic one you can find and it will work like any other
what would change if the saturn was on par with the ps1 in terms of graphical power and the n64 used cds?
>>4005710
>saturn was on par with the ps1 in terms of graphical power
graphics are not what killed the Saturn (although that certainly contributed), lack of third party support, no Sonic, and questionable corporate decisions did.
>n64 used cds
possibly quite a bit; cheaper medium means more customers in the long run. Also might have gotten Final Fantasy and some other games which would have been a huge plus. Nintendo's treatment of third parties would probably have remained though, giving the PSX an advantage.
>>4005710
>saturn
very little, Saturn's issues were nonsensical and brought on by sheer idiocy (like there being only 200 western releases despite there being 1000+ JP releases (even if we cut out all the completely unmarketable Japanese shovelware stuff, there's still hundreds of games that should have been released in the west, like Bulk Slash and a bunch of the RPGs), the early launch, etc)
It doesn't change much because sure, the Saturn was totally weaker than the PS1 visually, but not by a massive margin.
It had hardware features on VDP2 that could bring performance up dramatically in many cases, like hardware tilemapped skies and a mode 7 style ground layer instead of spending hundreds of polygons drawing a flat floor.
straight ports would almost always be worse because of quads and because of the lower fillrate on Saturn, but with a bit of optimization, it could be close
>N64
loads, Square might have stuck with Nintendo, along with other companies
hardware design would have had to change a tad, since the machine is built around loading data from cart immediately instead of grabbing it from RAM
>>4005710
Saturn was ahead of the PS1 in several areas. It failed for different reasons that your ignorance of who had better hardware (tip, it was not the ps1)
If the 64 used cd's, then we would never have had a PS2. Simple as that. The 64 was 4-5 times as powerful in so many areas there just isn't even a debate worth having.
I've never really played much video games apart from Zelda and metrics. Any classic vidya reccomendations?
lol super mario is p. gud
seriously though what are you actually here for?

Hey Kinsie, how's MetaDoom going?
>>4005068
threadly reminder that YOU SUCK
How do you feel about Croc?
C+. Not the worst thing ever, not top-tier, mildly enjoyable overall.
I enjoyed it quite a bit, sometimes I still do.
>>4003820
tank controls and boring level design
How was she always getting kidnapped when she's clearly the strongest Super Mario Bros 2 character? She can literally fly, why isn't she saving everyone else instead of vice versa?
Koopa magic held her powers back
>>4003818
She prefered that drago dick more than small italian cheese cock m8
>>4003827
It's true. Bad Dragons are the shit.
What's the consensus on Lufia 2? As I get older, time is precious to me and I don't want to devote a great deal of it in a game which isn't worth it.
So how does this stack up against other SNES RPG classics?
>>4003759
So good of music
Any game that awards you extra scenes and unique loot for defeating "unbeatable" bosses is cool in my book.
>>4003759
love it, uses a bar similar to the limit break bar in FFVII, except better
the equipment system is also similar to the one in FFIX, except less grindy
it's like those two games took ideas from Lufia 2 and made them worse
dungeons are also fun and puzzle based with visible monsters that can be avoided
>Super Castlevania Bros.
Why are you always spouting this meme when Castlevania I-III are easier than Super Mario Bros. 1-3?
>>4003579
9/10 guaranteed responses.
So... i have a second gen Snes (no sound module) and i cant get sound working on it, ive replaced capacitors, checked for broken traces and i hit the edge of my knowlñedge in electronics.
So i need help getting sound directly out of the actual sound chip.
Ive found this old thread http://benheck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=65568
Andf that guy says he could get sound from the sound chip, but i need some help here.
¨ I tried connecting a pair of RCA jacks directly to the output pins on the APU (pins 21 and 22) through high-quality capacitors and resistors for protection¨
Which one is the APU? SMP OR SDSP?
What does he mean by quality capacitor and resistors?
>>4003448
The audio subsystem is more or less composed of 4 chips. The SMP contains the SPC700 CPU core and periphery registers, the SDSP is the actual thing that makes the beeps and boops, and the two other chips are audio RAM.
If you want to really debug this, at very minimum you need a multimeter, but realistically you really need an oscilloscope. I doubt you have a scope, but do you have a multimeter?
>>4003469
and the amplifier chip is that small thing labeled NEC something, right?
I dont want to debug it, i want to take audio out of the cip which is what that other guy did, so i guesss what youre trying to say is that the pins he used where SDSP pins 21 and 22 correct? or was it the SMP? im confused cause my model has two sound chips, SMP and SDSP.
Also i have no idea about the values of the caps and resistance i need to connect so i dont fry my TV or any other component.
So
>>4003486
The SDSP (Sound Digital Signal Processor) is what outputs the audio signal. The SMP (Super Music Processor?) is what controls the SDSP.
An analogy is the 5A22 contains the 65816 CPU core (the main processor of the SNES) and some perphery registers (like controller circuitry). It controls the PPU (Picture Processing Unit) which are the chips responsible for outputting graphics.
The resistor is probably there to prevent loading the circuit, but with amplification, you can measure the voltage of the circuit. This is the same principle behind a voltmeter. Technically a voltmeter changes the electrical properties of a circuit, however a big fat resistor (usually megaohms, i think) is added to the voltmeter to prevent it from substantially changing the behavior.
The caps are probably to prevent inductively loading the circuit, because all those long wires you are adding have parasitic inductance, and the caps counteract that by smoothing out current. You can read about impedance to get a better idea of what I am talking about.
The small NEC chip is the DAC (digital to analog converter)
http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/6973/NEC/UPD6376GS.html
Actually, with that knowledge, it seems like your target should really be pins on the DAC, since that is what feeds into the output of the system.
Is there any particular reason Mednafen runs SNES games slowly? Is there anything I can do to improve it? I have Medgui reborn too.
>It's all in your head
Incorrect. I tested Mega Man X on real hardware, tested it in other emulators, and tested it in Mednafen, and Mednafen runs it slowly. Its playable but you can very clearly tell something is off.
Mednafen is perfect, it's your toaster of a computer that is wrong.
>>4002949
lol i have an i7 and a nvidia 970 its not a toaster
I just tested it on real hardware and I can see clear speed differences in frames between mednafen and super nes. If you cant help me out then idk why you bothered wasting your time posting, just to make an ass out of yourself by assuming something wrong about my computer?
Shit anon, get it together.
>>4002963
>i7 and a nvidia 970
>not a toaster
So basically I fucked myself over by trying to play bad version of the game.
Now the game is ruined for me and I will hold negative attitude because of it.
There should be at least some list of recommended way to play classics on modern machines.
Why are we not doing this?
>>4002875
>Why are we not doing this?
Because 80% of /vr/ are autists who insist you play everything on authentic hardware using aging CRTs.Play RealMYST btw.
Myst is garbage. I'll never understand why it was so popular.
What is there left to do at the end of the game before fighting Lavos?
What is the best side quest?
bump
I don't know where to go at the end I think lavos is still too strong for me
>>4002518
I liked the side quest where Robo was left behind to restore the forest.
>>4002518
There's a character-specific quest with every chracter. The campfire scene for Luca's has great atmosphere, but I like Marle's secondary trial one the best.
