ITT we can try to define a list of games that are possibly good options to start learning japanese for being able to understand and enjoy those thousands of titles.

Like the idea?

In a list from 0 to 10 games to be played in order of learning and undestanding japanese...

Maybe original Pokemon Red and Green would be good options?

I think playing Japanese versions of games that are already translated in English is a good start, since you can compare and contrast between the two. That is assuming the localized dialogue matches up with the original. That's how I figured that Double Dragon III on FC has a different story compared to the NES version.
>>
>>3993612

I tried doing that with Soul Hackers, comparing Sega Satan and Nintendo3DS versions an it really worked, but there are some hard points about kanji.

Game Boy RPGs are a good option since you will read hiragana and katakana and by that start learning japaneses phonetically, the first way of learning a language, as tiny kids do.

Am I right?

What does /vr/ think of this?
I don't mean clone consoles in general, but hardware clones with HDMI output. It seems like it'd be good for casual use but how do you think it could fare outside of that? I don't think there's been one like this since the Retron 5 was just an Android ROM-dumper.
>inb4 shill
I want to ask this genuinely. Normally I don't trust clones but they've been getting better

Basically they're shit regardless. Play on an OG console, or use an Emulator.

If you absolutely refused to use an emulator, and only have an HDTV that has an unacceptable amount of input lag for SD inputs, they aren't the worst thing, they are rife with problems though.
>>
>>3992927
>hardware clones with HDMI output
So far as we've seen, the cheap ones like the one in the photo are still outputting composite, then feeding the composite internally to a dirt cheap composite-to-HDMI upscaler, so it's the same thing you could already do, but higher priced to have it built in.
(Obviously the AVS and NT mini are another matter.)
>>
>>3992927
It depends on how well it will do HDMI or if it can be modded with RGB.

I haven't been able to find any solid info on this. In SoR2 is there some secret formula to successful grappling? It feels like going at a dude from above/below/the back seems to help my chances, but even that doesn't always work, especially later on in the game.

Is there some rng involved, or does the window for grapples just get small? If so where the heck is it

Help me /vr/ you are my only hope

I always preferred SoR2 to 3 because of that awesome soundtrack, but I like the special move bar in 3 that let you use a special w/o it costing any life.

Yes, it's all about practice and knowing the appropriate ranges for grappling distance, enemy attack triggering, and so forth. Here's some workhorse approaches to practice:

1) The Turtle Flipper
Just go for particularly sluggish enemies straight from the top or bottom (flip yourself so you get a back grip, which gives you more powerful moves)

2) The Blind Spotter
Sort of the same a 1 but a little more versatile: approach the target diagonally while keeping yourself mostly outside the horizontal and vertical ranges of his hit box, then quickly close the remaining gap into a grab

3) The Discount Hypnotist
Develop a general idea of the stun times of your foes, the range of your basic punch, and the correct button pacing so you can hit an enemy with a single punch, quickly advance a step during the stun time, and hit again and the exact time of his recovery but without activating your basic combo so you can repeat until you're close enough to just walk in and grab.

4) The Murder Lapdance
Mind your character's jumping range and jump towards the enemy so you land exactly in grappling distance for an automatic grab. Many enemies have anti-aerials, so learn the optimal distance and angle to minimize the change of triggering them.

5) The Fancy VIP Room Murder Lapdance
Like 4, but you press back to flip yourself in the exact moment you land so you get a back grab. Use with Max to unleash the full terror of this approach.

4 and 5 can be performed from a shorter range in combination with 3 for extra safety.

Bonus 1: The Happy Lander
It's surprising just how many people don't know this: in any SoR game you can get unscathed from an enemy throw if you press and hold Up+C while you're being hurled.

Bonus 2: The Valkyrie
Enemies on the ground nearby? Wait for them in grappling position while they get up for a freebie

Uh, thanks. 3 had actually never occurred to me before despite it's simplicity. It's certainly making SoR1 easier, so cheers. I've been doing what you call "the valkyrie" for a while now and sometimes I find myself getting grabbed instead anyway. Especially on bosses.

Maybe some bosses you just can't throw?

Just from remembering conversations as a kid I think I might be in the minority on this, but I think I prefer the health drain specials. People'd say that makes them pointless, but I feel like it brings a small element of strategy to it. You know "will this situation hurt me more than the move will" kinda thing. Also gives utility to health pickups when you're already full.

Everyone knows Contra, Super Contra, but not Contra Force. Why?

One of the best games in the series and so underrated.

I made a small video tribute to the game. Hope you like it!

Street Fighter 2010 isn't THAT hard. If you manage to build up a decent beam meter it can make certain enemies and areas cakewalks.

Now Ninja Gaiden on the other hand... the amount of trash bullshit enemies clogging up the screen in the last level is fucking masochistic.

Chris, did I ever tell you about Dr.James Marcus? He was a scientist working for Umbrella and he developed the "T-Virus" that turned everyone in the mansion into zombies but got screwed over by Umbrella in the end.

He was a good friend.

I thought this game was alright when I originalyl played it, but I think it's overrated.

>later levels don't seem to resemble anything and don't have memorable/have tedious design

>the game doesn't have enough stages

>5 music tracks

>AI is usually relatively simple in it

>no multiplayer
I like the ideas behind the game such as the openness, non-linearity, and large moveset but I don't think it's the best game made up until it.

I prefer other platformers from the time period like Glover instead

It's a lot of fun once you git gud and learn how to use scuttlebugs to transport yourself effortless through most of the later levels without so much as a button press.

Top pleb.

After so many years, finally forced myself to play through the whole thing.

The aesthetics are amazing but I can't stomach the gameplay, I usually turn it off after Marble Zone because there's so much fucking waiting.

What is the best retro gaming controller? It doesn't have to be one from this image. Its just the first image I found. Keep it /vr/

Of the systems I've owned (NES, SNES, GENS, N64, PS, and newer), super nintendo is my favorite controller followed by playstation, gens, nes, n64
>>
Thinking of all the platforms I've ever played on, the GBA had the best control schemes considering the hardware. The input is limited, but developers reliably found very creative and intuitive ways to make it work.

On the SNES it sometimes feels like they had no idea what to do with all the extra buttons (of course it was nonetheless a blessing for more complex games).

On modern consoles... well they do have a lot of buttons on their controllers, and developers usually feel compelled to make use of ALL of them, irregardless of gameplay complexity.

That doesn't mean I think any GBA iteration is the best controller, just a thought I had. I'm biased towards Nintendo products, because I've had them growing up, but I realize there are so many other valid alternatives, I'll reserve judgement.

Currently, the emulator can get through the BIOS, but hasn't booted any commercial games yet. A software rasterizer is used to attempt pixel accurate graphical output, the results are quite nice!"

Also, based on the logo, this looks like some audiophile ps1 project.
