Dwarf/Dwemer style empire
>Caste system of rulers, Crafters, warriors, lorekeepers, traders, plebians
>magitec level of utilization of magic as an energy source; generators can convert ambient Mana into lift, thrust, heat and electrical current
>Gated teleportation harnessed, a la Stargate (but on national not galactic scale)
>Elite 'paladins' of the empire are bonded with elemental creatures symbiotically, allowing for essentially power armored suits of metal that grant superstrength, regenerate with enough raw materials, and adapt their wearer to almost any climate

I'm at an impasse on what other specifics to grant this "precursor race". Would magitec Lazer muskets be cool? Burning out magic dust fuel to shoot GI Joe lasers?

They're fated to be destroyed in the end by an elemental evil they unleash from the space between realities, so this is all kinda window dressing right now.

I have always had a soft spot for the "Dwarves boasting about their previous achievements but their time has passed and their empire is a shadow"

It just resonates with me. Certainly a little LoTR and a bit of Skyrim.

You only have yourself to blame.

Hey /tg/,

Things in our campaign have turned ... interesting. I'd appreciate your take on certain situation. Here it is:

>Be Tolkien-level elf, probably with a posse of your own, killing evil shit in some swamp in Middle Earth and striking outside of it
>One day you hear coughing and then wet sounds of a creature walking in swamp
>Hide, observe
>Out of the fog comes human male in warriors outfit. He is sick, probably Swamp fever, has boils - probably Grey gnat bites and is slowly trudging on

What do?

I'd say elves would instantly help the guy, but these are elves and ... I dunno. I'd like to check it here.

thanks

Depends. He has a warrior's outfit, does he have insignia or heraldry that would indicate who he is or where he's from? Are there other indications showing that he's likely a friend(or enemy)? For that matter, how friendly are elves and humans(these particular elves at this particular age, more specifically) with each other in general? I mean, there are lots of different kinds of elves in Tolkien's works, and some of them would probably help him while some of them might shoot him or at least prefer capture and interrogation to actually helping him.

OP Here.

Very good points. No insignia i guess(He is soldier from Gondor, but far in the North). Elves are meant to be rather isolationistic, but are, on the other hand, on purpose killing bad stuff in swamp. I wonder how their longevity would affect their assessment of warrior?

Elves would be distrustful to humans in this case ("humans are prone to corruption" story). I was inclined toward capture and interrogation. I wonder how and what would they ask - not every elf is mind-reading Galadriel.

>No insignia i guess(He is soldier from Gondor, but far in the North)
Well... he'd at least have Gondorian armor and such, right? And probably wear his lord's colors or at least coat of arms somewhere in his chest(assuming he has a lord)?

>I wonder how and what would they ask - not every elf is mind-reading Galadriel.
Probably start with basic stuff - who are you, what are you doing here, what happened, maybe some questions to establish whether he's telling the truth(something both the elves and he would know - maybe about landmarks, the nature, that kind of stuff, I guess?). Then onto tactical assessment like are there other humans nearby(alive or dead), has he seen any baddies, has he seen anything else of importance, etc. I'd probably play them as not polite, but not exactly threatening either, as long as they think he's telling the truth. Afterwards, I don't know. Either give him help and send him off or let him join them until he can leave safely.

not really sold on some of the rules changes like linking everything to the Shock Gauges, and the dropping of such iconic schools as Entropomancy or Dipsomancy or Epideromancy legit pisses me the fuck off (I know they're in book 4 or 5 but those are pdf extras, not the core product, not in print)

it IS UA though so I'm probably gonna buy it sooner or later, but still... right now I'm more interested in the next edition of Over the Edge, hopefully they will not chainsaw that to bits this unnecessarily. Kickstarter soonish I'm told.

X-Com is already /tg/-approved, but how come you don't get discussion about Microprose's other notable games?

Civilization 2 is a classic, and had its share of scenario expansions. Conflicts in Civilization was mostly historical, but had a pretty kickass After the Apocalypse scenario, where you could play as one of 3 human tribes trying to rebuild in a land full of mutants, eradicator robots, war boyz and sentient dinomen.

And then there was this gem. You had your "tribute" scenarios, like a platoon-level X-Com assault on Cydonia, where you mopped up the remains of the alien forces. You had colonization of Mars. Midgard. 19th century Imperialism, except everything from H.G. Wells and Jules Verne existed. You could explore King Solomon's Mines, while fighting off Martian War Machines with Lightning Cannons stolen from under Fu Manchu's nose!

If that isn't RPG or tabletop material, I don't know what is. RIP Microprose, you glorious bastards!

>Floating disc
Floating Disk has a few unique features about it.
First is that it has no mass it is simply a force capable of carrying up to 500lb (2224.11 Newtons).
Secondly the disk tries to keep you within 20ft at all times. It's pathing is dumb however, so it can get stuck on the other side of a 10ft deep trench.
>Mending
This allows for quick repairs literally on the fly.

>Magic Initiate feat
In a DnD world, it's not unrealistic to be able to train some npcs to use magic. This training will give them the Magic Initiate feat allowing them to learn two cantrips and a level 1 spell.

Gather your band of loyal slaves workers and have them dig a trench 10 ft deep. Place your magic initiates (MI's) on one side of the trench and have them cast Floating Disc on the other side. Now simply brace a 25ft metal pole on the disc and attach your MI's to the end of said pole. Once the holding mechanism is put into place and the MI's are suspended on the end of the pole, have your volunteers fill in the trench. Once the trench is <10ft deep the floating disc will be able to pass over it seeking the MI who cast it. Because the MI is braced 25ft away from the disc, the disc will be constantly accelerating trying to get within the 20ft range.

This means you have a 25ft metal pole with a humanoid attached to the end with near infinite acceleration, accelerating for roughly just under an hour. You now have a suicidal wannabe-wizard railgun ready to be unleashed on whatever is stupid enough to stand in front of it.

To remedy the projectile breaking down mid flight, have your MI cast Mending on it mid flight to mitigate the damage.
Calculating impact force, depending on travel time, air density, geography, and projectile mass the impacting force of the projectile can vary greatly. However, you have a projectile with nearly infinite acceleration, only limited by terminal velocity.

Enjoy watching your enemies castle crumble when a 25ft steel rod flies through the foundation

in 5e, How would you go around statting a character who's extremely good at magic, a skilled fighter, very knowledgeable about karmic morality, and super attractive, but is also a clumsy, bumbling idiot who behaves like a complete brat, always makes the wrong choice and constantly embarrasses herself in public?

Cause even taking roleplaying into account, I don't think the DnD stat system can adequately reflect all those traits at once.

Sounds like either a Pact of the Blade Warlock, College of Valor Bard, or an Eldritch Knight, with high stats except for a dip in dexterity and either low wisdom/intelligence depending on what class you picked.

You're trying to describe someone who's rather inconsistent, but the nature of stats is that they are more of a maximum than a baseline. You can have an Intelligence of 18 and not know anything about history if that's your wish (just don't even bother rolling history checks), or have high dexterity but be bad at dancing or clumsy on your feet in general. You simply can't be more intelligent than an 18 would indicate, or have greater dexterity. Self-imposed limitations for character purposes work because the stats are supposed to be broad generalizations and generally supposed to be flexible.

Hey /tg/,

For a few sessions now, I had only 2 players in my group, we got along well and now we are having a new guy joining. In order to provide sufficient firepower, I had two NPCs added to the party and I need to remove them now.

Got any cool ideas to do that?

>>

A dwarf berserker who has "a map" to "treasure" (he's a simple kind, more prone to smashing heads then actually doing any real work) and socially awkward human Priest of Gond with his simple battle construct.

They joined because PCs looked for some quests and these NPCs needed some aditional manpower to get dwarfs' "treasure".

Dogs in the Vineyard handles exorcisms pretty well. Or at least, it handles them just as well as it handles gunfights and theological debates, which depending on how you feel about narrative systems is either great or terrible.

Let us have another thread dedicated to exotic fantasy foods. What foods can you come up with?

In my own game, the PCs are in the Gehennan layer of Krangath. A legion of yugolothic ghost maids (yes, those exist) has cooked:

• 1st: Appetizer: "Krangath cockatrice balut," an avian embryo which numbs the tongue with ever so mild and transient petrification, atop a cool and minty taste

• 2nd: Soup: "Cream of the caustic sisters," alchemically transmuted, milky acid from the flows of Mungoth and the seas of Porphatys, which smells of limes

• 3rd: Salad: "Remnants of the Field of Nettles," grey-colored greens and alchemically purified carrion from one of Oinos's most infamous Blood War battlefields

• 4th: Sorbet: "Blood on the black," negative-energy-charged death hail, crushed into fine shavings and drizzled with many varieties of fiendish blood

• 5th: Fish and Poultry: "Styx bao zai fan," meat from Styx dragons and Acheronian steelwings on a bed of Cathrysian-savanna-rice, cooked in a pot wrought of clay from the bottom of the Styx

• 6th: Main Course: "Astrosphinx wellington," which babbles out inane "riddles" like "What did the cosmonaut say to the cultured Fenris-spawn?" and "What do lilies, fairies, gaps, and hags all have in common?", muffled by the filling of pâté de larvae foie gras and Shedaklah duxelles, and the spicy puff pastry of alchemically softened, Chamadan magma

• 7th: Cheese: "Ship of the curdled corpses," a miniature spelljammer of softened and cooked fiendish claws and talons, crewed by bizarre Deep Ethereal creatures that resemble ambulatory cheese wedges, which have since been killed, necromantically reanimated, and instructed to slice themselves up on request

• 8th: Dessert: "Mind-into-mush cake," slasrath brains from Oinos, afflicted by a (since-purified) disease that has degenerated the bestial brains into delightfully spongy cakes, with frosting of hallucinogenic faerie frost and viscous syrup of illithid brain fluids

I've looked over Mini Six and I'm impressed that it's something that seems mostly full featured in such a small package. Though I can't really fully judge it because I haven't been able to find a group to play it with.

Though the Wound system makes me worried about the combat. Like it looks like something where if you get hit at all, you're completely fucked because the wound system there's a slippery slope that means it's gonna get easier and easier for you to die because you'll be made incompetent from the wound penalties.

Though I guess that means it's a system where you run through new characters every session or two due to incredibly high mortality? Or is it basically to discourage combat entirely as something that's messy and that you should avoid whenever possible?

Seems like it'd maybe work best for like a survival horror game or something.

Mind you, combat is my least favorite thing about RPGs so I don't care all that much but it is a surprising feature of the system I didn't expect.
