We would still have a couple of primarches less due to the mini-heresy, so the Imperium would have been weaker already. After the wars of the Beast, almost every planet in the Imperium would have some sort of ork infestation, but they would be somewhat manageable, thanks to the Mechanicum not getting divided into loyalists and dark mechanicum, and thus, no more lost tech. There wouldn't be an Echlessiarchy, because most of the primarches are still there to uphold the Imperial Truth. Inquisitors would be way less important, and they'd probably be replaced by the Deathwatch.

In terms of xenos, the Orks would be the major threat, and thus, warbosses are somewhat more organized and dangerous. Tyranids would either have a hard time entering the galaxy (if orks have teliporter tech, all the orks in the galaxy could appear to have a good ol' scrap with the bugs), or it would be a walk in the park (so much ork biomass they become unstoppable fast). Necrons would try and fight the orks, but they are just too many, and many tomb worlds just don't wake up to avoid pointless losses. Eldar use buopurging techniques to kill the orks from a distance. Tau can fight better against orks than chaos, so they could have an advantage, but it would be pointless since the Imperium is stronger here, and thus, their war wouldn't end in a stalemate. The Imperium either exterminates them or turn them into subjects (some primarches and deathwatch might be fascinated by their tech, thus keeping them around to manufacture them in secret).

I forgot to mention, even in a weakened state after the mini-heresy, the Imperium has more manpower and more primarches, so the War of the Beast fares a lot better for the Imperium, leaving them in a stronger position than in real 40k.

I got into it by offering to DM a game to my brother and cousin. I had gotten the books for my birthday a year beforehand because I had begged for them.

I've found that a lot of times when I want to play, I have to offer to DM. If you become a DM, even if you're new, you'll have lots of people who want to play with you at your FLGS.

Not Karlsruhe, but the Darmstadt flgs is alright. Rather welcoming to new people from my experience. Though I only really go there to buy shit or sometimes for the Friday drafts, don't know about the P&P people there.

But I'd imagine that the FLGS in Karlsruhe is not that much different. And if it turns out that they are turds you can always try roll20 or try, like the other anon said, to make your own group.
That's how I got into all that. A friend asked me if I'd like to play some P&P, he'd DM.

The idea is beautiful and I love it, but it's one of those things that just doesn't really work for over-the-board play. I've seen too many games wither on the vine as any sense of immersion or progress ground to a halt as everyone has to have a discussion as to what, exactly, constitutes Forces 3 until everyone just defaults to "the DM will tell us how it goes," which is just the kiss of death. At that point you might as well put down rails.

I think things work a little better when it's in the vein of Chaos Magic: Wild Sorcery or Pathfinder's Kineticist because they do a pretty good job of encouraging you to do the vast bulk of your spell-building ahead of time so most of your table time is just casting off your pre-existing list, but they're still awkward to balance.

Don't involve the Hounds, or don't leave any room for the players to catch their eye. If they're played as Hounds, they're a guaranteed campaign ender, either through death spiral or through TPK.

Ironically, with your painter, going bigger is probably better. The thing about the Hounds is that they're not big players on the cosmic scale, which is precisely what makes them dangerous. They're entities specifically devoted to fucking up the day of whoever's caught their eye, and everyone in their immediate vicinity, whereas a Big Thing would be easier to play off.

You mentioned she's gonna be an Erich Zann type. One of the better Lovecraftian stories in recent times was the Strange Case of N., where an obsessive photographer tried to hold the shape of the world in place by taking photographs alongside his O/C behaviour.

What if she's painting to "fix" the world in its normal shape, but the wrongness in her paintings causes mental distubances, etc.

Asking this in /wmg/ also because it's almost entirely 40k in these threads, but I have a Grymkin army for Warmahordes that I haven't really built or painted yet. I did build pic related today, and it got me thinking that some of these guys would look great if I converted/painted them with a Bloodborne theme.

The blurb somehow manages to explain nothing about the meat and potatoes of the game play in several hundred words. That's not a good sign. Still, if it's done well, it could be cool. It's basically a game built around adventure modules, which you could just play D&D or something similar for, but I imagine whatever mechanics they'll use are formulaic enough that adventures can basically be created by plugging variables into a field that auto-balances things and then writing a basic story around it.
