Why are halflings so much rarer in fantasy fiction than dwarves and elves? You see those two everywhere, but halflings almost never, and they're just as public domain.

Halflings are conspicuously Tolkien, even if they are "public domain".

The dwarves and Elves in original D&D are pretty segregated from their Middle Earth analogues when you take a good look at it. Halflings are not, and on the rare even they are such as with Kender people just resent it.

Forgot the summary.

>Western + Post apocalypse
>Neo-Texas
>The exact cause of the apocalypse is a complete mystery to the people, though many speculate and hunt the wastes for clues
>Radiation all over the place
>Also cybernetics
>Motorcycles are the main mode of transportation, other vehicle also exist but are more rare
>Main currency is cards from a variety of games.
>These cards are also used in the popular game deck'Em in which players battle with improvisation and a combination of rules from every card game known to man
>Old world currency is mostly destroyed or repurposed though old-world coins are used as badges of honor
>License plates are collected in sets of 50 as vanity items
>Doctors are some of the most widely respected as medical science has fallen by the wayside
>Groups that survey are mostly tribal, very few organized fighting forces.
>Chief among these groups are a series of nomadic khanates.
>None of these khanates get along and all of them are savage forces. Though less advanced tech-wise they are brutal fighters to make up for it.
>Mutants exist, resulting from both cybernetic rejection and radiation
>These mutants range from human-like in intelligence to completely savage
>Corporations have formed. They provide goods to the wastes as well as conduct the most lucrative slaving operations
>Hipster food truck caravan?
>Old world advanced drilling has led to a new oil supply for Texas however most vehicles also (and mainly) run on biofuel.
>"The Naked" Are a widely disliked faction with a philosophy of strong opposition to cybernetics
>Small refueling camps dot the wastes to supply travelers with biofuel from fast growing but otherwise valueless crops
>Some refueling stations will let you play deck'Em for your fuel, but blacklist high profile consistent winners
>Some stations are run by these winners
>Moto-jousting is a sport

> Cont.
>>
>>51375284

>Khanates come from the southlands and are basically savages. Infighting is constant and when they do stop warring to attack, the civilizations of the Wild Wastes come together to fight the common enemy
>Christianity survives in two forms, Backwoods Gospel and Neo-Catholicism
>Neo-Catholicism is basically modern Catholicism with a splash of the old crusading variety.
>Backwoods Gospel is full of fanatical believers and supernatural legends
>Mutants are the scourge of both
>The Iron Sons are self appointed lawbringers.
>The follow a set of rules called "The Code"
>Their HQ is unknown by the masses, but in reality it is at Area 51
>Most roads are deemed public access and not controlled by any one faction, however, The Corporation does upkeep those important to their operations and charges modest tolls to pay for it
>When Marauders try to muscle in towns or sometimes the Iron Sons push them out in a hurry unless they keep moving
>Guns are plentiful, ammo is not. The blunderbuss and muzzle loading rifle are back in style due to relative cheapness of ammo
>The corporation is the only source of advanced ammo (excluding the stockpiles held by the Iron Sons)
>The flow of trade changes if bandit groups can hold onto stretches of road, detours become popular and more small towns spring up
>Fort Kickass is a bastion of neckbeards with a strict "No Women" policy
>Mostly harmless they are sustained by taking in orphans
>They also collect deck'Em cards and hold an annual deck'Em tournament, the only time they open up to the outside world.
>They are rumored to have at least some martial arts training
>Agriculture is still strong and wheat is a staple crop
>Mutated animals are favored hunting game, including the humble "Station Badger" A mutated field mouse and another staple food

> Cont.

>>51375302

>At the start of the apocalypse two men from beer brewing companies distributed shitloads of beer.
>As a result the "Church of Light" to "Reverend Bud" was formed, telling stories of the evil rival "Miller's Sons"
>Decent beer can be brewed in the wastes but there is a premium on stale old cans of Bud Light
>Drinkers report religious experiences in the style of Native-American vision quests
>Neo-Catholicism has excepted Bud as the patron saint of Alcohol and Parties
>Backwoods Gospel believes him to be an angle or prophet
>monotheistic bud worshipers are rare and many do it out of irony and a love of alcohol
>March 17th is Bud Day, a religious holiday where all three branches celebrate in harmony
>Many pilgrimage to the shrine to Rev. Bud in Milwaukee, the old Bud Light manufacturing plant
>High rise architecture has been mostly dismanted
>The Red Silk is an organized army of slavers named so for the red silk and black leather they wear.
>They are ruled by a monarchy or oligarchy by a prince or princes
>They travel far an wide, including North into the mountains
>The Grand Canyon is a thriving settlement
>The canyon is a system of tunnels and bridges
>It is the trade hub of the Wild Wastes
>Bandits house here commonly as well

There's a lot that's not written here, but that's about the gist of it.

Where could I find other casuals that play cheap, bastard decks like mine?

I tried playing at the LGS and it was either hardcore nerds that knew each other or preppy people who came in and left asap after getting what they needed.

Money is not exactly an issue, but I want people who don't take the game seriously and wouldn't be offended at playing cheap decks.

My players will spend a lot of time on a big cathedral and I want to build it so to be as realistic as posible. How many people used to live in a big cathedral like Notre Dame or Westminster and what function would they take care of daily?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>51399207
Not sure on the size, but general housekeeping could include maintaining altars, sweeping, cleaning, as well as preserving any food or drink that might be used in ceremonies, masses, etc.
That and, of course, prayer! In addition, you'd also have general religious services, so there'd be members of the cathedral in charge of confessionals, donations, etc.
>>
Stop worrying about realism and just set it up already. The time you spend fretting about shit that doesn't matter is time you're not spending planning your game.
>>
>>51399372
your playgroup has probably never even seen an inspired setting judging by your attitude.

The players play undercover agents of the alliance trying to keep this island nation in their alliance. They must fake being one of the plebs and argue the benefits and use their powers of manipulation and lying to persuade the populous to reject independence.

While this is absolutely /pol/shit, you make a reasonable point in that the premise isn't without merit. Brexit could be adapted to a campaign, given the right setting, probably a custom one.

Hey /tg/, how can I learn to improve my dungeon/encounter building. My maps seem way too linear with no puzzles or interesting encounters. It's still pretty low level, but it's all door>hall>room repeat.
I've already noted to flesh out my descriptions of rooms and characters as well as give enemies distinct fighting styles, but my maps will still be boring.
Thanks in advance.

I have a similar issue, and although I'm not the greatest, I found something that helped me improve a lot:
Have your Dungeons follow the same layout as places you've been to, and improv the details. I have a pretty gr8 spacial memory so it works for me
>>
>>51397298
That's a good idea. If I make one map per time I leave the house we can have a session per year.
No really good idea, I'll try to remember. What when the places I go don't seem like dungeons?
>>
>>51397355
I mean I recently ran a party through a castle which was actually just my old highschool.
I wouldn't say most shops are suitable for Dungeons, but you could literally describe the house/apt you're holding a session in to your players. If you're subtle enough and change enough details, they shouldn't have any idea

STOP!

Your current party has been absorbed by an unstable magic rift and flung into an alternate dimension exactly like their own.

they land beside themselves where they were a minute ago.

what happens?

I am currently planning to GM a Star Wars campaign with a long time group of mine.
The players seem really hyped at the prospect, since they are all huge star wars nerds, but it feels to me that they are going of the rails a bit with this.
The game is still weeks away, and they are already starting to cite crazy stuff from the wiki back at me "can i find x in the game world" "can i have y exotic creature as a pet" "how available is z technology?" etc. etc. I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed with their expectations of what this will be, i wanted to do a fairly simple pirate adventure with them, but there is just so many bizarre and crazy details in the lore that they keep digging up. How do i prevent them from going "Let's go to Dathomir and capture a rancor"? I am worried this campaign is going to get derailed as soon as it starts.
TL,DR: How do you keep your players from going too crazy in an established and extremely detailed world like star wars without dampening their excitement too much?

Christ that was a cringe answer
>>
>>51397801
i don't quite understand?
should i just let them have all their crazy stuff?
or deny them? Cause i'll never see the end of it, either way.
>>
>>51396969
I didn't want to even consider dealing with this, which is why I created an independent setting to use with the FFG Star Wars System. Can't complain about or abuse Canon that isn't there.

Of course, I said I would do this at the start, with the promise that the players would have opportunities to become more important to the setting than they would otherwise in the Canon universe.

Star Wars itself doesn't really make for a good campaign setting. It's the same with Forgotten Realms. You have to deal with the Drizzt/Elminster effect, and fanboys will go crazy with Canon and exploiting their knowledge of the universe.

a sense a theme of 'everyone losing, but not really' going to happen to all factions

I HAVE A VISION

calling it now, some warp bullshit pushes the nids out and away but a splinter fleet gets 'stranded' in our galaxy

necrons dont wake up and/or the flayer virus fucks shit up and most of the crons/tomb worlds are effectively useless

orks get caught in a daemonic push that wipes a bunch of them but stems the daemon tide so both factions are also effectively in reduced fighting strength.

siege of terra 2: electic boogaloo ends with terra mostly intact, imperium sundered, chaos fucked up, eldar did fuck all but will be shoe horned in EVERYWHERE.

the timeline freezes at 1 second to midnight with all the forces shattered and on the back foot and the eye expanding and the emperor reborn. The story ends with all the factions trying to regroup to prepare for

WARHAMMER 40,000 AGE OF THE EMPEROR
