I need some advice /tg/

Whenever I would DM for my friends I tend to not be very discriptive in the events that are happening in the story and describing the looks of NPCs. I also tend to fumble with my words a lot.

Is there any tips you guys could give me to help improve on that?

If you're fumbling with describing the looks of NPCs, write them up beforehand.

Alternatively, cut back on the detail. I like to include a lot of detail myself, but sometimes it's for the better if it's quite minimalist.

Although, I imagine that if you just asked your players to hang on a moment while you figure out what it is you're trying to convey, they won't mind. They don't think that you're some omniscient god - most players will understand that you're a human and that what you're doing is tough.

I hate gms that go on and on about details. The world should be in the players head's, you don't achieve that by describing a monsters foot for 5 minutes.
Tell them the most important stuff, 2 bullet points, max 5.
Good:
'The Monster is like a shrimp but with lots of human arms instead and two praying mantis claws. It's feet are like a bird of prey's.'
4 points everybody knows what's up.
Bad:
'It has a exoskeleton with big plates, beginning at his head and going all the way down to his sort of tail. The plates get a bit smaller to the end. At his tail it's kinda trapezoid? But round y'know? Like this *gesture* And in the middle of it's body it has about twelve human arms with human hands. But it also has two normal arms at his shoulders, two longer arms. And they have like two elbows, like they go down and up and down and the last part is like a slim and long shield and they have these short kind of spikes.....'

After my vent, the conclusion: Short descriptions, low details, only the most important stuff. Don't let a description halt the game because it's too long. If you stumble over your words, you're probably describing too much. Give npcs 2 defining characteristics and leave it to your players imagination.

So I'm playing DnD 5th edition with a few friends, im a half orc barbarian, one friend is a dragon born bard, and the last member of the party is a teifling sorcerer. I really want to seduce a dragon (for various reasons) and t i think i can count onbsupport from the other members. So the question I have is, how should I go about doing this?

You have no reason to be such a dick? God forbid anyone want to have fun on the internet right? I'm trying to have a good time with this campaign lighten up

The warp has finally overtaken me and I want to start playing the 40k's.

How bad an idea is it to start out with a Thousand Sons army with no real experience in the game?

You'll be fine as long as you buy Magnus, a bunch of Tzaangors, or Tzeentch Chaos Daemons.

If you're running pure Thousand Sons Rubrics you're going to have a bad time.
>>
Don't play Thousand Sons. Remember, real men play guard.
>>
>>51389751
Could you elaborate on the Rubric thing? I was going to have some of those plus some Sorcerers.

I view SB and /tg/ the same way I do America's political system. Both sides have some good points and bad, but the people on either who actively have opinions on the whole thing are basically bickering children.

Seriously guys, be mature about our single player imagination game.

You're asking people to be mature on 4chan and SB. You'd have a better chance asking your closest politician to do an honest job at representing you. If people focused strictly on making jumps, jumping jumps, and improving their writing ability, we should have a lot more jumps than what we do now.

I've been writing a modern DnD 5e setting, and could use help filling it with relevant items and things.

I'm using the Modern Magic UA, alongside this article detailing armor ( http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/my-new-d20-modern-campaign )

Suggestions?

Pic unrelated.

Post the best non-combat challenges you've run/experienced.

Puzzles, roleplaying encounters, traps, and mini-games?

How do you make a game feel like it has a good amount of content without adding more fights?

This thread is criminally unposted in.

There's a gap/pit with something deadly at the bottom that the players need to find a way to cross.

Get a puzzle box that youre familiar with but the players aren't. Explain it as being a magical artifact or something.
To keep stats relevant, allow each person to attempt to get a hint from you, or be allowed to only complete it to a certain point. Don't force them to solve it in the same scene they get it, and don't allow them to hold in while they're in combat.

Google a riddle and pick one they're not familiar with. If they give an answer that makes that's just as good as the real one consider it a success.

Have a magical device that is essentially a drill. It keeping going in a straight line despite gravity or the strength of it's obstacles.
Players could only use it once, and it cant be moved without turning it on or running the risk of breaking it.

You could be a massive dork and have them do a 6x6 sudoku puzzle.

Have a negotiation/political puzzle in which you need to convince 2 or more parties who dislike eachother to cooperate with eachother

Don't have 2 puzzles in a row unless if they have to be interconnected to be interesting.

Flumphs are the classic "challenge the players not to kill every weird thing they come across" monster.
>>
>>51388738
You could put a bit of a twist on the riddle concept.
Have an incredibly ancient or not entirely human man. Have it so that the man seems to have a useful service or item to offer the pcs.
Have him ask something from the players in the form of a riddle.

If you give players adequate warning or if the reward is great and unessential, you could even have the man throw into a pit or consume anything the players hand him that isn't what he wanted.

This was recommended to me by someone at my FLGS.

Is it fun to play? Is the game interesting? How complex is it? Is it more than just the ultimate waifu card game? And most importantly, how are the waifus?

And I'm not interested in investing in it for money. Just wanted to know if any of you have fun with it.

The decks are cheap and the game is fun, its kind of similar to Shadowverse in a way. If youve never played that think of a middle ground between MTG and Hearthstone with a few added mechanics and thats FoW. If you have a few other people to play it with go for it.
>>
>>51383623

Thanks, I was thinking about picking up one of the decks the next time I went into my FLGS. I don't know anyone else who plays it at the moment, but I might see if I can get some friends to get in on it as well.
>>
>>51384077
The old intro decks are pretty fun. There's less lore and philosophy behind the colors for obvious reasons, but the game is pretty interesting. If you can find people to play, then you should check it out.

Maybe be careful about getting too invested though; The guy at my FLGS thinks that the game doesn't have much staying power

What wacky animu adventures has /tg/ gotten up to?

The whole game is a trap option. You pick it thinking it's going to be good but you're wrong. It's just a bunch of shitty generic rules to slap on top of your weeb freeform that end up making it even worse. You would think that nothing could get worse than weeb freeform but BESM found a way.
>>
>>51382394
It's actually pretty fun and you can do pretty much anything in the game. My friends and I mostly did really relaxed, silly types of games when we played with it, so I couldn't tell you much about "trap" options- we didn't really dig in that far.

Corsairs in a ship. Something in witch Jack Sparrow roam the sea. So, you have many colonial country, not! Spain, not! Portugal, not! British, who fight for some islands and parts of the newly discovered continent. Ho, and a few different pirate factions.

Use adventurers and have them affiliated with different factions in different regions.
