Considering Smaug was technically a King, how would you consider his reign? Successful, unsuccessful? Did he make any sweeping changes to the political landscape?
Abolished the dwarven apartheid in Dale

What are some perks that get stronger with time? I only know the True Magics from Fate and Living Saint from Generic Xianxia.
Is there a good RPG that lets the players command a troop or mercenary company or any other autonomous unit of badasses in the vein of a Space Marines chapter, Black Company or the Bridgeburners?
Technically you can use D&D's miniatures handbook. Pathfinder has rules for armies and such.
Reign is a one roll system that's good for combined intrigue and leadership stuff.
Iron Kingdoms is great if you're just trying to scratch a war gaming itch.

Any asshole can make a magic item if they have basic knowledge, and are willing to devote a lot of time and resources to the project. The world is flooded not just with magic items, but with magic tchotchkes: when you're getting an engagement ring for that cute girl, why not get it in a case that creates miniature fireworks every time it's opened? A day laborer spends several days taking apart a chair and putting it back together just so it'll massage his shoulders when he returns home from work. A housekeeper carves and gilds a feather duster into a Rod of Glass Cleaning because she said she doesn't do windows, and by the gods, she's willing to do anything to avoid that particular pain.
How might saturating a setting with junk magic effect things for players with adventuring PCs? Could the GM entice a player to play one of those "break a magic item to gain a bonus" characters? What if having pockets full of magical trash screwed with spells like Detect Magic, and even Detect Invisibility? For a mechanical example, in terms of 3.x, anyone with a single rank in a relevant Knowledge skill gets every item creation feat as a bonus feat, and can use those feats even if they're level one.

We had a thread about grids yesterday.
Considering both square grids and hex grids have pros and cons, I've tried to come up with alternative grid systems that could work for a RPG or skirmish game with a focus on tactical combat.
Here are the results. They're a bit small since I've worked on A4 format so that I could print and test them easily.
Thoughts?
The node grid is basically a square grid 45° rotated with "diagonals take more" movement rules in effect.
I'm trying to imagine in what situation the radial grid would be good, but my brain is failing me.
>>51392268
node grind is killing my eyes, but otherwise looks pretty decent, but you just reversed the standard square tiles problems of diagonals.
>>51392268
i dont know if its my early morning brain playing tricks on me but i can not understand for the life of me, how the radial works
The Primarchs are coming back, which means that GW is going to have to use a substitute for the most handsome Primarch!Hold that L Fulgrim
It's Sanguinor time to shine
I mean someone needs to lead the blood angels and their successors chapters.
I was actually thinking Celestine would turn into Sanguinius, that whole "grand design" thing. Probably just me being dumb, though.

What's your opinion on Microlite20?
If you don't know what it is, it's the d20 System, as in 3.5/PF, I KNOW I KNOW LET ME FINISH, but stripped so far down to the bare bones that all that's left is a rules light system with no feats bloat, no class bloat, 3 ability scores, 4 skills, some spells that only do basic things. That's it.
It has a slew of expansions, both "official" and community made, including modern, scifi, and OSR stuff.
I'm thinking of using it for the character side of a scifi/mech game. Is it any good?
>Only 3 ability scores
Yes, let's force Fighter/Rogue/Wizard even harder

Thanks OP, gonna read this next break.
>>51392366
What if all 3 need all 3?
It's pretty good, I've used it before to run small games on the side. Wizards and clerics still dominate of course but it's still ripe for tinkering away with.
In this sci fi game we have a human raised by an uplifted semi sapient tribe of hunter gatherers. Is sexual attraction possible? They can use tools and tech by the aliens who uplifited them but arent smart enough to innovate. Can that kind of difference prevent attraction to the species said human was raised by?
Lets just assume that this species is also mamallian
Sounds like set up for a /pol/ tier joke...
>>51391223
Humans can be attracted to a lot of weird things.
If you are running a game in this setting a more important question to ask is: is this important?
If the answer is no odds are you are magical realming.
>>51391223
Fuck you elfag.
Fuck you furfag.
Do magic users care about cats in your setting? Why or why not?
>>51390887
Of course. Between Egyptian Myth and Quantum, cats are invisible immortals. They make the best planeswalkers.
>>51390887
Because a lot of girls assume it's obligatory to have their cat as a familiar when starting their apprenticeship and then they just keep it out of habit.
>>51390887
Yes. The reason they are so popular among magic users is that cats, specifically the smaller varieties, developed a sort of precognition that can be cultivated into prophecy (requires interpretation) and/or sight into the Unseen World. This is, of course, due to their unique position in the food chain as both a nocturnal predator and prey animal. This explains their screwy habits of jumping at nothing (that wasn't nothing; ready your wards) and excessive denning (spirits are incapable of assailing certain enclosed, angular geometries). Naturally snakes, bats, owls, and other such magically-inclined critters have variants of these abilities due to their statuses of nocturnal predation and/or preydom. Owls for example, being apex predators, are better inclined for more ritualistic, scrying-oriented magics.

What sorcerous origins do you hope to see on the 30th? Or do you think WotC will surprise people again with something other than sorcerers?
>>51390603
Elemental, either specifically or based on the Djinn.
Either Fey or Planar based origin, involving mental manipulation and/or movement options.
Something else entirely unexpected, possibly referencing an old monster not in 5e.
>>51390603
Maybe they'll try to actually fucking fix sorcerer.
