>'This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council. As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your [world] minutes. Thank you.'
How does your current setting react? What do your current characters/army do?

>>51408688
Well Unknown Armies generally assumes that humans are the only life in the universe so this would definitely fuck with some heads. We'll try and send our best Godwalker of The Bureaucrat to sort this out but we all know true bureaucrats can't work with rules that are even slightly different from what they know so we're probably fucked.
>>51408688
We use the new weapons we got from the outer rim Federation that use warp drives instead of hyperspace lanes and tell them rightfully "Fuck off".
When an incubus/fey invades a maiden's dream seduces an copulates with her will it leave any physical evidence. Will said virgin be still pure? This important because one of the PCs is a sweet girl who will only plans to sleep with a futurr spouse they Feywood and a Fey entered her dream and seduced her. I didn't know the PC would be this bothered about it.
>>51408436
Just write it off as a wet dream, with no more physical/spiritual impact than an ordinary mundane wet dream. The only difference is that the Fey copy pasted it's face into it.
>>51408606
But it was real to the Fey right? Isn't that still some violation?
The entire point is that it blurs the line between fantasy and reality and endangers the spiritual aspect of purity even if the physical aspect is unharmed.
The fact that the PC is bothered is natural. Whether or not she is still pure is a spiritual matter and is completely dependent on subsequent actions.
Basically, it's kind of how rape trauma is actually made worse by people reacting to the rape.
Sooo, I'm rusty as fuck and I'm bringing the games for tomorrow's game night.
It's three friends and me.
We need to cover explanations, potential chargen (but I can come with pregenerated characters) and actual play of a full story to its end in a single session. None of the usual "We say it's a one-shot but we have to set another date to finish it" crap.
I'm planning on bringing Dawn of Worlds and A penny for my thoughts because I am a massive faggot who enjoys story games and those don't need any preparations.
But I come to you asking for more.
What are good games that come with little to no preparation, and are light enough to make excellent one-shots even with players who learn about the game for the first time?
Oh and the game session is four hours long.
Risus is my go-to no prep game. I just ask people to make characters around a central theme (or not) and improvise the whole session on the spot.

How do you feel about characters picking up the ability to fly under their own power in your campaigns, through levelling and taking feats or spells?
>>51407548
Depends on the setting. In a Superheroes or Magical Girl game, fucking go for it.
In "standard DnD" (whatever the fuck that is), eh... short-term flight is OK. It's alright in 5e because it ups your Concentration ability, only lasts a minute, and can be disrupted fairly easily. In something like Pathfinder where you can fly for hours at a time with no negative effects or easy way for enemies to counter it... yeah fuck that, no.
How about an all birds campaign? Different species of birds could be different classes.
"In a world, where Silent Spring was never written, four birds take it upon themselves to stop the spraying of DDT... WITH VIOLENCE. Presenting Not So Silent Spring, coming this fall."
>>51407548
Of my five players, one has a flying mount, and two have feats that offer the option to permanently grow wings in exchange for some penalties in other areas (one player has already taken the swap, the other is holding off but can take it anytime he levels up).
So, I guess you could say I'm ok with it.
Given that "Why does /tg/ like/dislike X" & species comparison threads are so prevalent yet only ever answerable due to anecdotal points of view, I figured this might be fun.
At the very least this might lead to discussioneven if that discussion is only how useless polls on the subject are
I had to use broad strokes, so there's no specifics, dark/light/good/evil/unique interpretations of species are all condensed into their given name. Also due to limited space some of the more specific or vague ones are grouped together
There's three:
In a fantasy settings, what species do you like to be included the most?
http://www.strawpoll.me/12200326
In a fantasy settings, what species do you dislike to be included the most?
http://www.strawpoll.me/12200327
In a fantasy game, what species are you most likely to play given the choice?
http://www.strawpoll.me/12200325
Multiple choices are allowed
If there's anything you'd like to add or get specific about it'd probably be good to post it here. Strawpoll is obvious limited when it comes to specifics

GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!
Why does nobody play the few good games GW have actually made?
Epic is the best game they've made and it's near impossible to find models or players.
No support for them anymore. Despite the fact that it's still relatively easy to get models from resin guy or 3rd parties and rules from NetEpic, the lack of a company backing everything means there's no new releases to get excited about, no campaign books, and most importantly--nothing to back your investment.
Sure, GW could fail tomorrow, but as ultra-niche as non-historicals are, 40k is still THE top dog in terms of population (although I hear it is now being superseded by X-wing).
There'd still be tons of people to play with anyways. But Epic never got a huge community that survived into the age of the internet (though it might not have helped--see WHFB, though AoS also stole many of its last players).
>>51406316
Oh, forgot to add that FW actually IS bringing back Adeptus Titanicus in 8mm. Just Titans and knights for now, though they said tanks/infantry might show up eventually if things go well.
They're even doing a demo game at the weekender with full-size knights and titans.

I got a few Nercomunda gangas, Mordheim warbands, and a BFG fleet.
I don't have Epic because I'm not a can of that scale wargaming.

Has anyone had an issue with having too many potential players?
I feel bad for complaining, since the usual thing I hear (and experienced for years) was a severe lack of players interested in TTRPGs. But now I've mistakenly allowed people to play once or twice, and ended up with 9 fucking players. We could split into two groups, except we're all friends and they don't want to choose one group over the other or anything like that.
Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? How did it end up?
>>51405638
Yes. I've noticed playing 5e D&D that 7 players is usually too many and things get slowed down and lost in the noise. When there are fewer players there is more intimacy between the players as well as the DM. It allows for better role playing and better "your time to shine" moments. 4 is my preferred number but 5 is fine too. 3 feels like too few.
I had the same issue. I had 12 players in 5e. Eventually, cliques and rivalries killed the group.
>>51405638
If you gotta run for more than the 5 people that 5e does well, you need to take a page from your elders and have your players pick a caller.
Then you the DM talk to the caller about who's doing what, and he is the one who talks to the players and wrangles everybody and makes sure they're paying attention and are clear on what they're all doing on their turns and who's going to run Greg's character when he hits up the bathroom or whatever.

So /tg/ often wages the debate-war on whether Necromancy is evil or not. Basing it on written word in settings, rules, or some sometimes personal judgement.
Gotta say. Why does Golem crafting get off so easy?

Second line.
>... Binds the unwilling spirit ... and subjects it to the will of the golem’s creator.
There is similar text in in my 2ed Monstrous Manual, Pathfinder's DMG (under creation), 4e (Abate sometime entrapping Archons), and in 5th.
No [Evil] text on that, must be legit.
>>51404579
Most people don't actually know the specific rules and fluff and just make assumptions based on their preconceived view that necromancers are evil spooky edgelord goths all in black who command evil spooky skellingtons to kick puppies and golems are just robots that run on magic.
>>51404579
Golemancy uses Spirits and stuff that's naturally occuring in the world. Sure, it's rude, but there's a lot of legitimate uses and it's not inherently evil to bind the sources of power in the world to your whim - Hell, that is literally casting spells in a nutshell, binding various unnatural laws to your whim.
Necromancy involves sucking pure evil from another dimension and thrusting it into a body, causing it to rise as a hate-filled but easily led being of evil. Negative Energy is basically radioactivity on crack, every time someone uses Necromancy the world literally becomes a worse place to exist. There's a joke that certain types of dark magic causes the divorce rate to go up .001 percent; That's Necromancy.
In other words, even if you're doing it for a good cause, you're literally pulling in raw and unfiltered evil energy into the world, you're not binding a spirit that's already a part of nature you're bringing in something That Must Not Be and forming it into something that hungers for the death of everything real. That's why Necromancy is evil (In D&D. In other settings, results may vary)
>>51404820
>Golemancy uses Spirits and stuff that's naturally occuring in the world
Souls used in necromancy are also spirits naturally occurring in the world, silly.
>Sure, it's rude, but there's a lot of legitimate uses and it's not inherently evil to bind the sources of power in the world to your whim - Hell, that is literally casting spells in a nutshell, binding various unnatural laws to your whim.
Could all also be argued for necromancy too.
I mean, you're basically acknowledging that magic in general could be considered an unnatural violation of universal law but insisting that necromancy is some kind of extra bad violation because you say so, so it's evil.
>Necromancy involves sucking pure evil from another dimension and thrusting it into a body, causing it to rise as a hate-filled but easily led being of evil
But negative energy isn't necessarily evil and there are actually naturally occurring and good undead like those good elven liches.
The positive energy plane is the opposite of the negative and exposure to too much positive energy will literally make living creatures explode so it's not as clear-cut as bad versus good and positive energy is as or maybe even more comparable to "radiation on crack".
Necromancy wasn't always considered evil and neutral or positive things like communing with ancestors can fall under necromancy, even resurrection used to be necromancy.
Just because you don't understand all the info and history of negative energy and necromancy doesn't mean you can shoehorn your personal homebrew in as the official universal canon.
