I live in a black neighborhood and people here are really nice. They say hello and good morning when you pass on the street and it feels like a true community. The only really disconcerting thing I've noticed since living here is the amount of physical abuse that goes on between couples and parents/children. I on several occasions within the past two years have witnessed several public physical altercations between young men and women, meaning hitting and grappling and pulling hair on the street while screaming. I have also seen many instances of mothers and fathers slapping the shit out of their young crying or misbehaving children. When I lived in white neighborhoods I never saw this-- what do you think is the cause? I'm not trying to be racist, sincerely just pointing out a difference between the communities. Also, it makes me sad that the only stores in my neighborhood sell cell phone plans, weave/hair supplies, religious supplies, or streetwear/shoes. There are no bookstores to speak of, I have to go more than a mile and a half in any direction to find one.
