I was taking a walk through the industrial part of town on a foggy night yesterday, cause bored
And the scenery there is quite nice to make pics of
I didn't have my camera with me, so I took some crappy cellphone pics to try some angles and shit
I'm gonna head out there again tomorrow with my canon because I saw quite some awesome things to shoot
Thing is, I have no experience whatsoever shooting in the dark
So far I've done some portraits, some pets or some daytime events like weddings and shit, which is, to be fair, easy as fuck
I'm particularly interested in capturing the rays of light, not necessarily the objects. Should I keep the shutter time low? Or rather high? Should I bring my tripod for stability if I need to keep the shutter time high? And what about ISO? I really wanna capture the kind of "god rays" thing, since it's gonna be foggy as fuck tomorrow. Pic related, it's a shitty cellphone pic I took. It's the only one under 5MB, I can't be fucked to resize them

Wouldn't the optical zoom be like the analog zoom?

I don't understand why people say optical zoom is better than digital zoom.

If it is ananlog, then there are huge lossess due to the analog nature of adding a lot of noise.

Why isn't digital zoom better, if you convert everything to 0 and 1 you can never lose quality because it will always be 0 and 1.

Just like CD is better than vinyl.

Could you explain to me the butthurt and brand defensiveness lots of (amateur) photographers have? Why are they so easily triggered when they see someone not using "their" brand?
56 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
because it shakes them up wondering if they made the right choice and each company says they have the best stuff so it puts them against the competitors instead of making sure their choice covered their needs
>>
>>2985309
I think that really only applies to the Sony-Moopco brand. Most others don't give a shit
>>
>>2985309
It's literally only Sony users. Canikon/Pentax/Fuji users all talk shit and meme around, but nowadays the only people who I've seen legitimately upset and overly defensive were Sony users.

This however has nothing to do with your photographic abilities

What sort of film would you use? It's probably an obvious question, but surely you would need to extremely low sensitivity film (like iso >1) and a microscopic aperture pinhole thing?

Sometimes I adopt a pretty big power-stance to stay steady when I take a shot, but it is usually on an incline or when it's justifiable. I've seen some wacky asian tourists pull off some yoga-esque shit tho and it makes me chuckle.

Can someone expand more on grips and their usefuIIness for photography? Not sure if it matters, but it is for a Canon T5i. There's a genuine Canon one that just showed up cheap and l wouId Iike to get it if it is worth it since it's onIy $ 130 new.

l have been researching if it wouId be usefuI or not to get one and it Iooks Iike many peopIe get them to hoId 2 batteries for video, since auto focus and 1080+ drains the battery fast.

Are the portrait features for hoIding the dsIr verticaIIy worth the purchase? l aIso have Iarge hands and hear good things for baIancing the weight of a heavy Iens and overaII grip combined.

ls it worth to buy? Did you Iike working with it? Are there any other photography benefits of using it?
>>
Bought a nice tripod that came with a terribad head.

What should I replace it with?
>>
>>2978896
> Can someone expand more on grips and their usefuIIness for photography?
Usually used for one of these reasons:
- Power. Additional battery life, pass-through charging or even as hookup for DC power.
- Remote shutter triggering (some have a built-in release).
- Stability/Ergonomics (better grip holding the camera, maybe holding it sideways, or because of built-in fixtures to have it mounted on some bracket or screw mount.

> Are the portrait features for hoIding the dsIr verticaIIy worth the purchase?
I wouldn't buy one for a T5i unless you know you need it (saving for a new body, lenses might be better).

And if you must have one, probably just buy a Chinese one.

Hello /p/, a wagie wanting to get into photography here. I'm hoping you guys could help me choose my first dslr I'm lookin at a Canon EOS 1200D and a Nikon D3400, which one should I get? The Nikon is 3k(pesos) expensive than 1200d but it's a small price to pay if it's much better than the other. So which one should I cop? Thanks

Whatever. Try learn how to take a picture in manual mode before even asking this kind of question. It's not the brand/lens that's going to take the picture.
>>
They're both deeply flawed, the 1200d has fucking awful iq and a plasticky shit body, the d3400 is needlessly gimped and won't even work with the majority of nikons autofocus lenses.

As you're just starting out, a camera with an evf is a much smarter choice as it will give you an exact preview of the exposure you're taking with your current settings, instead of just a fancy window where you will need to look at the back of the camera after every shot to check if it's come out ok. They're also a lot smaller so you will be more tempted to take it with you, and they look a lot less autistic.

New they will be out of your current budget, but a 2nd hand sony a6000/nex 6/nex 7 may be affordable.
