What is the best temperature to store your camera in order to prevent fungus from growing on it?

A few weeks ago the place I live in got extremelly humid because it was raining basically every day. I keep my camera outside, and being in that extremelly humid environment was enough to allow some ugly mold to grow all over the low pass filter and the viewfinder glass assembly. I made a thread here, /p/ said my camera was done for. I blasted the sensor with germicidal uv light as well as direct sun light, then I took it to get the sensor cleaned one month or so ago. In the near future I'll get the viewfinder glass assembly replaced (it costs like 51$ for the 70D, which is my camera), but in the mean time I'm keeping my camera in an air-tight box packed full of silica gel dissicant.

I used a DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor to test if the dissicant was actually making the air inside the box any dryer and, surprise! It actually works. The relative humidity inside it went from 50%, just after I closed the box, to 10%, half an hour later. I wonder if it will go any lower than that.

Anyway, what does /p/ think of this?

Why the fuck would you keep your camera outside?

I don't keep it outside the house, just outside any kind of enclosure.

I live in Thailand.
It's humid as fuck (70% or something).
Every one I know that's into photography here (including myself) has a dry cabinet.

When I travel, I use ziplocks with silica desiccant.

I envy those that live in more moderate climes that do not have to take these precautions.

I love bokeh in general.

He has his style.
People like his style.
People with money like his style and hire him.

What's the problem?

Doesn't conform to your notions of style?

I need a headshot for career purposes and was hoping to take one myself. I have an X100S and basically no other equipment.

Is natural light enough? What time of day should i take it and how should i position myself relative to my windows?

What would you suggest for a cheap background? Is wall enough? Hang a sheet?

Any recommendations for post-processing?

Thanks.

There's nothing wrong with the camera, it takes great photos of people.

Assume that i want to do this myself as a fun sort of project. Can you offer any actual tips besides "go somewhere else?" I'm going to do it so let me judge whether it's a flop. Thanks.

Do you think Sony a5000 w/ 16-50mm kit lens is a good entry for me to get into photography? I don't know that much about photography, but I have an interest in it. Also, it goes with my budget. Should I buy it or just buy a DSLR?

read Understanding Exposure from Bryan Peterson, be very-very suspicious when you hear something related to the names Northrup and Rockwell, take lots of photos and have fun.

So today I was driving my car in the third world country I live. While I was driving I see this with a camara taking photos of a begger (who had his kid with him). The begger was in the middle of the street and the camara man was in the other side of the street and in between a ton of cars.

Suddenly I hear "yo imma wreck your camara get the fuck out". It was the begger insulting the guy who was taking pictures...the guy left and nothing happened.

What does /p/ do if an agressive guy walks towards to you? In this case was a begger, maybe you could tell him "hey, i just wanted to transmit the reality you are living in, let me buy you something to eat for you and your kid" or something like that? idk. Sorry for the cancer english.

Conservative economist Thomas Sewell retires from public life to focus on photography.

>uring a stay in Yosemite National Park last May, taking photos with a couple of my buddies, there were four consecutive days without seeing a newspaper or a television news program — and it felt wonderful. With the political news being so awful this year, it felt especially wonderful. This made me decide to spend less time following politics and more time on my photography, adding more pictures to my website.

This is a public reminder that equivalent aperture is a myth.

The only reason small-sensored cameras produce wider depths of field is because they require wider lenses to achieve standard fields of view.

Your nifty fifty gives you the exact same bokeh on an APS-C camera as it does on a full frame camera. Thank you for listening.

Particularly interested in pairing with the 100-400 IS L II f/4.5-5.6... but can't find anyone doing it. Everyone seems to pair with the 70-200s

F4 is the maximum you can use them on for a x2
>>
>>2989727
I have a 1.4x TC. It works with AF on f/4 lenses, primes usually outresolve even with the TC.
My older Tamron 70-200/2.8 "Macro" works well with it but I use that lens mostly at f/4 anyway.
Still looking for a good 300/4 for better reach.
>>
>>2989727
Depends what you're shooting, they lose 1-2 stops of your aperture and don't give much in return that cropping won't give you, or having two lenses (one heavy and one light)

That F4 lens becomes a F5.6 with 50% loss of light and shutter speed to gain 40% zoom (less than the lost stop)

In general it seems the people who actually like the extender are those who have it bringing a F2.8 lens to F4.
At F4 they can still manage sports or birds during daylight, and non-action stuff in less-than-daylight.

If you start with F4 and extender changes it to F5.6, it's a pain in the ass how limited it is. It becomes too slow a lens for sports/wildlife and suffers during imperfect lighting.

Treating it like a F4 and trying to fix the shots in post will just get lower or same quality as simply digital cropping to get the exact same 40% zoom area with the no-extender wider aperture. With the added penalty that the extender doesn't allow you to choose the location of the cropping later.

They're very expensive for how limited they are (I have one lens that works with my extender, none of the rest of my collection) They don't necessarily improve quality, or save weight. I guess the one and only upside is having extra choice between close or far zoom.

Sure, a 70-200 F2.8 with extender might weigh 835g less than a 300mm F2.8, but the extender combo is only F4.
The 300mm F4/L IS is 525g lighter than the 70-200 with extender.

The weight difference between having a 70-200mm + extender versus carrying a 300mm + a 50mm prime isn't really significant. Nor a significant difference in space. Nor in swapping, you won't get wide-angle shots with the 98mm minimum on the zoom if you don't take the lens off to remove the extender, and it's just as fast to replace the 300mm with the 50mm and get much wider view. Or switch to 85mm or 40mm or whatever you want.

This is probably why gear-a-holics talk about the extender but I almost never see real pro photographers use them really.
