why not simply throw it in the fire? i don't get it...
>>967998
Why not simply everyone drive a camry?
>>967998
Because the consumerist madness that is the knife industry, biz and world consists solely about how good can a knife split wood like a chisel.
drive next
>>967998
You split little logs like that down to get at the dry wood inside them, then feather it so you can start your fire. Thats the only time you need to do that. Once the fire is going, youre good. Memesters around here would rather just play make believe about knife autism than admit there is a place for processing firewood with a knife.
Cant stress how amazing this album is if you like the audio-aspect of the outdoors, along with Eno's Apollo album.
Most ambient projects dont really grasp an organic theme like this does.
Post more music- great to listen to as you drive to your out destination.
"my music is so amazing and special i don't need to check the catalog to see if there's already an /out/ music thread" general

John Fahey, Robbie Basho, and Leo Kottke are the ultimate /out/ guitarists.

Sorry I did it in a pinch- board is slow anyways so it doesn't matter much, could have a thread dedicated to just eno + out
what's the riskiest/dumbest thing you've done while being /out/
>pic kinda related, except there was a 30m chasm under the tree
barebacked a Malaysian twink in the woods.
im only joking mate.
guess the time i grabbed out for a fishing lure with 3 treble hooks swinging from my line like i would grab out for a beer was pretty dumb and painful
Followed a GPS upside down down a riverbed in NZ.
If you're thinking "that's freaking retarded" yeah it was. You're welcome.

One time I batonny chop chop with my knife.
Who do you listen to?
What genres do you prefer?
John Denver is prob the best musician to listen to when /out/

>go /out/
>listening to artificial sounds
>ignoring the natural sounds around you
>>963831
>implying there's a scientifically possible thing called "aritificial sounds"
I bet you call lamps and lightbulbs "artificial light" too
When you have a blade-off with a 60yo Japanese man.
Also, knife thread. The Schrade F26 is mine.
>>956236
When you get into a blade off with a white suburban boy... like me... Pic related, just got it yesterday after a 9 1/2 week wait.
>>956343
But this is not /k/, so here are my, for the most part, outdoor knives.
>>956344
I just got that tiny crkt in the middle. I think it's the untralight knife I've always been searching for. It's great for skinning and woodworking alike.
>That feel when I can't take any of my favorite camping knives when I travel abroad because I'm not checking a bag
Questions that don't deserve their own thread.
I'm want to get the wisport Sparrow 20L pack but I'm a poor fag. Does anyone know of a similar style pack for less?
>>950827
20 litwrs is too small.
Next queation
What is the best way to prepare shellfish like mussels while /out/?
is the karambit a meme? does it add anything of value over other knives?
>>947600
Yes it is a meme.
No, except being used differently to fight, and being very certainly inferior to regular knives for that matter, it can't do anything.
Good luck field dressing an animal or preparing a meal with that.
>>947602
I don't think field dressing would be that hard considering you can choke up and they are pretty small irl.
>>947610
Then do it and post in on youtube.
It's better to have the opposed curve to skin.
This is the best /out/ rifle there is, none of your tacticool ar-15 wannabe soldier rifles can hold a candle for it.
>>946556
Or, y'know, you could buy something lighter and more accurate that's chambered in a modern caliber and can actually take a scope.
>>946562
Why would you want some stupid fudd gun like that?
>>946562
>Dat buttstock grain
muh dick.

I'm thinking about starting jumping lessons in 2 weeks. Is a protective vest all that necessary? I'm only really interested in a budget one, under $100. Perhaps a chinese knock off?
I'm 188lbs at 6ft and have a fairly athletic build, So far, I've yet to fall off a horse but when I do, I don't think i'd sustain the same type of blow as your average rider (A daintly 5ft 6in, 130lbs female)
>inb4 man of steel
>are seatbelts necessary
>are helmets necessary
>are airbags necessary
It's a risk you'd have to take, anon. If it means anything to you a 6' 165 lb friend of mine just got bucked off and broke his arm/a few ribs and dislocated his shoulder.
>>831410
Ever broken ribs before?
That's reason alone to wear one. I'll tell you it fucking sucks, and it's not something I want to do ever again.
If you're jumping, especially just starting out, i'd suggest it. Trail riding I wouldn't bother.
Does the barn/whatever have gear you can borrow? See if anyone else has one they'll let you try?
Never rode without one in the rodeo arena. Vest is likely what saved my life when I got stepped on.
>>831453
>Ever broken ribs before?
Nope, When i played rugby, we had a man on our team that played a match only 3 weeks after he broke one or two ribs. They were really tender but he managed to play two matches like that until they were fully healed. I fractured one of my vertebraes during that season as well and I couldn't do anything physical for 2 weeks, and another 2 before full contact.
My current barn has a policy set at 2'6", It's not really setup for this sort of thing but my instructor told me they can provide basic hunter/jumper lessons at the same rate as my ordinary english lessons (4 for $150, 1on1 private hour long)
I figure that i'll just stick around there until i've maxed out at what I can learn, then off to another barn.
I've decided to get a vest, I'll most likely get a cheap $50 chinese knock off to hold me over for a few months until I progress and i'll have more money for the real deal down the line.
Gun enthusiasts. What is the history behind this one? There are no markings or serial numbers to look it up. WWII maybe?
There has to be marking somewhere. Check under the spinny thing what holds the boolits
I opened the barrel and there are no markings there either.
Buying UK woodland.
Does anyone here own any woodlands? Are you allowed to use them for business ventures and such? Do I need permission to build a hut/dwelling?
I've just inherited a chunk of money and I'd like my own piece of woodland but as its the UK I'm worried about being buried in red tape.
>what is Google
Good luck building on woodland. You've got green belt regulations, conservation areas, sites of significant interest, etc etc etc. Never mind if you have native species the habitat directive is a cunt.
Speak to your local planning authority they'll tell you what restrictions you have.
Generally speaking if you buy woodland it has to stay as woodland. That means no houses.
Sustainable development may win you brownie points as there's usually a presumption in favour of sustainable dev in development plans.
Need to give more details.
>t. Environmental manager
>>974789
I have been doing my own research but I wanted to see if anyone already has woodlands and their thoughts on the process.
I know building a house would be a no no/huge ball ache, but what about a hut/cabin?
I was thinking about maybe turning it into a "wild camp" site if it's worth it and use the funds it makes to put back into the site/buy more land. I know it's all going to be a long process as I'm waiting for land that's close to me.
>>974795
You've have an easier time with a Cabin/Hut than a House.
The only issue is you're not going to get alot of Woodland in the UK.
I walk maybe 40miles a week for my work, in steel capped boots.
The factory insoles soon get flat and HARD, and my feet feel like shit.
I've tried cutting some out of Yoga mats, anf they are blissful for about a week, by which time they have gone flat.
Can anyone recommend any comfy, long lasting insoles or foam I can cut for inserts/insoles?
>>974301
in my tims i have a pair of "FP insoles." technically they are skateboarding (for people who dont want to feel their board for some uknown reason) but they work great in my tims. a perfect fit. i think they were like 20-30 bucks.
>>974301
Dr. Scholl's gel inserts for me
>yes I'm gellin'
I work and hike in my steelies, they last 4-6 months and worth the 20 bucks.
Maybe try something that offers support, like superfeet? Foam insoles give cushion, but they don't help keep your arches from stretching out, causing plantar fasciitis and other foot pain.
Do you ever fish in the middle of urban areas, /out/? Do you eat what you catch - and if so, are you concerned about pollution?
>goldfish
>>973730
Well, they're just pretty carp.
>>973732
The ones in the wild tend to lose their coloration and look pretty much like regular carp.
>fruit picking
has any of you fags ever done it? I have just sent my appliance for a couple jobs.
>>973395
Hopefully you sent the washer. Dryers need not apply, the lazy bums.
boring as fuck
>>973402
Fucking this.
Dishwashers a best appliance though.
Is it honestly possible to have a sound uninterrupted sleep while camping? Basically every time I go /out/ I wake up 2-3 times a night- be it the ground, the cold, or animals waking me. I carry a thermal sleeping bag and an air-mat, so don't tell me I'm skimping with the wrong gear
>>973240
You just need to get used to it. Eventually you enjoy the sounds of nature and they help you sleep
You are skimping with the wrong gear. You forgot to buy the whiskey.
i sleep better in my hammock than in my bed at home (unless my thermal pad slips a bit)
