Mosins were cheap 3 years agao because, quite literally, 3 us bunkers were cleaned out. It was a us psyop for idiots here to buy them. Ask about the grease. Sovietrs used thick grease.

No, the mosin nagant is a peice of shit. It fires a bullet that has no brass to reload. It wasn't good even by ww2 standards.

But hey, don't trust me, i might be a salesman. Beter go to your local gun store...

Picky about .22lr? Unreliable? I've never had any reliability issues thousands of rounds in. Sights and ergos are garbage? What the fuck is wrong with you? You expect some perfect piece of art gun for 100 bucks? You are lying out your teeth or you have impossible standards. It's seriously laughable that you think the ergos are bad. The only way I could see that is if youre some fucking 7 foot 450 pound giant of a dude and the gun is just too small.
>>
>>947503
>Picky about .22lr?
Yep. Even more so than other .22 autos I've owned.

>Unreliable?
Double yep. Odds were good that somewhere through the third magazine after cleaning you'd have either a FTE or the bolt out of battery and light strikes weren't uncommon either.

>Sights and ergos are garbage? What the fuck is wrong with you? You expect some perfect piece of art gun for 100 bucks?
No, I expect something that provides a good cheek weld and a decent sight picture and the model 60 provides neither.

I struggled with this, but settled for #1 = Leupy M8 Compact, 2.5x fixed on a DNZ (deadnutz) 1 piece base, Marlim 336C in .35 Rem.

The "story" goes... a gun writer contacted Marlin for a .35 Ren w/pistol grip stock and wrote an artical with it, shot it "several times" and sold it to a local gun store.

My Spydie Sense tells me John Taffin, I just have to find the issue with the artical and... PROVINONCE!

More to follow when light. I have spent some... time... with this collection.

The M60 is prolly available in (((also)))) mag feed. But i think the tube is less likely to be lost. Just another option for "America's most popular .22", which was always an overstated marketing slogan.
>>
>>948715
The marlin xt-22 is box mag.
I dont give a shit about marketing, the m60 is a great 22. I've fired more rounds through mine than some small nation army.
I've never heard about issues with accuracy or reliability with them.

Anyways, if your'e looking for the perfect /out/ rifle we can shit on each others choices all day...
I recommend a pistol caliber carbine and matching pistol to take to the woods.

Kel tec sub2k and glock 19 or 17 comes to mind, but there are others available...
WW2 bolt rifles are heavy and slow... If you are hunting something... great, but consider a stray pitbull or random fuck you up critter crosses your path.... I would want speed and reliability

It was just a suggestion because it will get the job done. Most pistol cal carbines are good out to 200 meters and can do close work too. Then you have your pistol as backup.
Both are the same or less weight then a nagant or your typical wood stock rifle.
My point is if you are in the woods... you can't see past 200 yards in any direction and if you are shooting that range or further, than you are hunting rather defending yourself.
The FN suggestion is pricey, lol I'd take a high point carbine and pistol over a bolt woody rifle all day. Consider your range and threat.

It's true some bubbas don't care about aesthetics, but not all people are bubbas.

Some people think a single shot action is stupid, some enjoy the ethics and challenge of one shot-one kill.

Some people think ARs are ugly or evil, some own several.

Some people think any scope at all is "cheating" or lends an unfair advantage, others need the assistance due to poor vision or other disability.

So really what you say is fine... FOR YOU.

But don't even think that your puny OPINION has any influence over what I think or how I feel.

To do otherwise just makes you come off like a pretentious jackass and you don't want that, do you.

Me personally I just can't shake my love for singles as a survival gun. Simple and reliable, the only weak links are the sights, springs and firing pin, and they can be jerry rigged easily enough.

In a bug out situation though, much as I like the AR, I'll stick with something that doesn't scream "I've got a bunch of cool, useful shit!"

Mini 14 works just as well, and even all tac'd out, doesn't really stand out as "omg amazeballs supergun" that everybody will want. Even the people who already have guns...

O gosh no

No.

I have nothing against it but it is not a good out rifle or gun at all. Sorry.

First of all the model you show has a bolt handle that may not be fully rotated with a scope attached turning it into a heavy limited range implement unsuitable for fowling or deer stalking yet too large for small game.

A nice 12 gague can be used for fowling or larger game with slugs.

A 22 with moderator is great for unsporting birds on the ground or rabbit etc.

A .270 bolt action will take anything in north America or Europe and is pretty flat shooting and widely available.

So O gosh no op while a very historical weapon and indeed still used in several conflicts around the world and even a good hand to hand implement with its bayonet attached it is an obsolete infantry rifle ffiring a very large cartridge anon.

Not a good choice for out.

Again you will not like this but for actual out in rouch country the good old break open shotgun should not be underestimated as it is so safe to walk with. Similarly a bolt action .22 or 270.

I generally found in my youth if I did not hit with too shots it was too late anyway!

may I recommend tis book on out guns to the board

the complete book of rifles and shotguns by jack o connor

While it is an old book this man was completely /out and knew his shooting.

You take the cheap milsurp shit to the range for practice, then reload it with good shit from Barnes or Nosler (as it's still just a .30 as far as they're concerned) and use that for critters. Shoot twice and its still cheaper per round than factory hunting loads.

Mosin is mostly a meme. Swiss guns or Russian capture Mauser are better. Sure Mosins shoot okay, but not as well as a K31.

>smooth fucking action
>straight pull bolt requires no hassle
>bores are insanely good for being drilled constantly for the past decade the rifle was in service
>you can see the fine, shiny rifling lines
>excellent sights
>sturdy stock

A superior rifle overall. No mosin could stand against it unless it was a Finnish moist nugger. Only reason Mosins are so popular is because they were cheap and surplus 54R was plentiful. Now they're $200 and all you can ever find is Tula/Wolf ammo.

I've got a break-action 22LR. If you can aim, you don't need more than one bullet at a time, and when you're only feeding yourself, you don't need to drop anything a 22 can't handle. But you keep on LARPing, since that makes you feel powerful.

There's no "do it all" gun. But if you're looking for a multi-purpose sporting gun that you can defend yourself with, I recommend a 12 ga. Preferably a model where you can swap between a normal and rifled barrel so that you can use slugs for big game like deer.

>Slugs for bear or deer or other large game

Its literally the most versatile gun and you can get one for under $300. When you're done innawoods you can still use it for recreation, or home defense.

>>950831
Shotguns with adaptable, quick barrel replacement from short to long are great. For innawoods/hunting: a 16-20" smoothbore. Home defense: 10-16". Shorter barrels make it easy to round corners quickly, but lack the range of a longer barrel.

get a police trade in mossman 500 or cruise some pawn shops for a used one. should be about 200-250. that's the best home defense gun and it can be used to hunt bigger game too, which is a plus.

if you want a survival gun, get a ruger 10/22 takedown. you can throw a few boxes of ammo in your backpack with it and shoot squirrels and rabbits for literally 10s of days.

Mostly it is if you are out aside from a deer stalking rifle. Duck, Pheasant, Pigeon, rabbit, dove, boar, yes deer to in woodland. Only a air rifle or a 22 is as useful but not so much for birds that break cover but great for rabbit.

All these milsurp guns are useless as they will vaporize small game and are useless for birds on the wing

You cannot eat a whole deer you know or pack it out on your own.

You did not grow up with guns. Stop trying to look grownup.

>>946556
Agreed. I live in a place with massive bears, thick brush, and cold. The bears mean I can't use a gun in a smaller caliber, the brush ruins the cosmetics of the gun but it is very easily replaced and the gun was designed with cold in mind so I don't worry about ice all over the rifle. My only complaints are size and weight, but I have a handgun for when I need to go light.
>>
>>955684
Real men feel no need to project their insecurities onto others.
They also shoot 22 in quantity because it is cheap, doesn't recoil, and allows you to get back to fundamentals, breaking any flinches or bad habits you got while shooting the "real man" calibers. You can take kids and women out shooting with it too and everybody will have a good time. Trigger time is trigger time and keeps your skills sharp no matter what you shoot.
Real men know this. You don't.

>>958201
Undisputed truth here.
There's a reason why Grandpa only had a 12 gauge in his closet.
First off, even now most deer are killed at distances of less than 75 yards. Their vital area is 9 inches in diameter. At that distance, that's a 6MOA window if you aim dead center.
Do you know what can achieve 6MOA regularly? Literally any firearm with even the most rudimentary sights. Unless you're regularly taking shots over 100 yards, all a scope does is weigh your gun down and destroy your field of view.

Second, a shotgun can take ANYTHING with the proper ammo. From squirrels and varmints to geese, ducks, deer, bear and moose, a shotgun can do it, and has. If you can only get ONE gun, it's clearly the one to get-all you need is the right ammo and you're ready.
Third, they're cheap. A single shot can be had for just over $100, and a basic pump gun runs $200. That's Mosin-tier money for a gun you can use in every /out/ situation. And the ammo is literally everywhere. Walmart doesn't even have the stuff under lock and key-you can just walk up and pick it up off the shelf.
Fourth, Grandpa lived in Indiana, and it's illegal to hunt with rifles there, but we're not going to talk about that. Shotguns are good and criminally underappreciated.

All of you are larping faggots. If you want a firearm that is versatile and durable, get pump shotgun. Remington's qc has gone down in the past few years. Buy a used one, make sure it is an older model. They run 150-250. I shoot turkey in the spring, waterfowl and upland in the fall, and deer in the winter with mine. Get a modified choke, a pattern master, and cylinder choke.

Granted this is not the only firearm I carry with me, as I carry my revolver as well. But if I had to pick one firearm for innawoods or shtf, it'd be a pump shotgun.

I agree with you sorta. That was my first rifle 10 years ago. I spent $45 on a military tin of 400 of it's weird Russian rounds. That was 10 years ago. I can't find that ammo so easily and cheaply anymore.

In practice a 22 is the best /out/ gun. A ruger 10-22 scoped if you ask me.
>>
>>947151
dont get an ar7, as others pointed out it sucks ass. if packing light is a concern get an old 22lr revolver. you sacrifice some accuracy compared to say a 10/22, but you can get within handgun range of most, if not all, things you would want to hunt with 22.

Hey /out/ I just got my hunting license and I'm looking at getting my first rifle, my budget isn't that high and I have to deal with EU gun laws.
I held a cz 557 today and it felt really comfortable, what's your opinion on it?
Also, I'll be doing mostly wild boar hunting and occasionally some deer, can someone tell me what's the best caliber for that? And particularly the differences between 30-06, 7x64 and .308
>>
>>970304
Nice. CZ makes great rifles. They're not cheap in the U.S. The only negative I've seen in mine is that rust starts very easily on their barrel steel. I just leave a heavier coat of oil on mine than I do on most other rifles.

I don't know if that model come in long and short action versions. If it's long action only, go with .30-06. If there's a choice, go with a short action in .308.
>>
>>946556
I know this is bait but the only reason the nugget is a """""good""""" gun is that it used to be 100 dollars for a somewhat useable one. Now that it's not the case anymore, any modern hunting rifle is going to be better.

The good prices will come back. The only mil-surp guns we won't be able to buy are our own. U.S. manufacturers are don't want this to happen, but the shit they're making now just keeps getting worse. AR's are disposable. Dissimilar metals and petropolymers can't sit in cosmoline for 100 years.

>all these people posting gun images found on google, or guns without slings

protip: There really is no "best" rifle for all people and all situations, although there are plenty of bad ones. The best rifle is something hard wearing, reliable, and powerful enough to reliably stop the largest local predators, but cheap enough to practice with on a semi-regular basis.

Everything else is an aesthetic choice based upon your own needs or preferences for durability, weight, and quality of life factors that all balance against one another and ultimately, your budget. Light, durable rifles with lots of features are rarely cheap, while cheap, reliable rifles like the 91/30 are neither light weight nor do they compare well against modern rifles in terms of ease of use or safety. That said, if you're poor as shit and going to be rubbing nickles together to buy a gun, a 91/30 is far better than no gun at all.

Overall, a AR-15, SKS, or AK pattern is 100% fine (maybe preferable) if you're hiking in areas with mountain lions or black bears. If you're in Grizzly land (or want something that will be useful across all of North America, you'll probably want a .30 cal rifle, 12 ga. or .45-70.

So far you've gotten shitty advice. I'd get a Ruger GP100 revolver with a 4 or preferably 6 inch barrel. Get it in stainless for added outdoor ruggedness reliability.

Easy to carry innawoods, and easy to maneuver indoors for home defense, and you can choose anything from 125 grain hollow points going out the barrel at 1700fps (for home defense against people), to 200 grain Hardcasts going at 1500 (for bears or other animals).

And if you had to conceal it in an emergency, you can still manage to conceal carry it, though not an ideal weapon in THAT regard, but dooable.

It's a do it all gun. Extremely reliable. And around that price range. Truly to this day you can't beat it's versatility.

And to top it off, you can also shoot .38 special from it which is a cheap round you can use for practice and to take smaller animals when you don't want to use the stronger 357 magnum round.

If you want or can only get a long gun, then get a pump action shotgun. Get it smooth barrel so that you can shoot buckshot out of it. Don't get it rifled. You can always use special slugs that work properly in non-rifled barrels
>>
>>950894

We're limited to 16
>>
>>951814

I wouldn't carry one because I'd look like a tacticool fag, but none the less, it's a great fucking outdoor gun. Better than all the ones previously posted. And extremely reliable in all weather conditions.
>>
>>975749

>Implying you need to shoot a 1k plus gun in order to understand there are better guns than a Mosin
>>
>>969911

If you live in hot and dry places it's not a problem.

And if you live in very cold weather, say, Alaska, Montana, Finland, Russia, etc

Then you're better off with a wooden rifle. The plastic can become very brittle and break in very cold temperatures. Unlikely but if you drop it accidentally for instance, it would mean the difference between a useless pile of junk and a working rifle.
>>
>>975761

It's really only important if you care about bench accuracy. Hundreds of thousands of people carried wood stocked rifles in combat through every environment imaginable yet there was never any sort of outcry about how these guns couldn't hit anything if it started raining.

Service rifles would have used free float barrels much sooner if weather had some real impact on accuracy within the ranges of iron sights.

Companies don't innovate towards making things better. They innovative towards meeting the status quo with a product that is cheaper to make. Only advertising is getting better.

I don't believe any civilian stocks or frames would be made out polymers if it were not simply a simplification of mass production. Alot of you started shooting after polymer became a norm, and overall quality is suffering.
