I live in Burgertown and I'm looking for a 2010+ hot hatch for a daily driver that I can also hoon or conefag occasionally. My budget is around $15-18K. From what I hear the Focus ST and the Mk6 GTI are probably my best bet. Can anyone who owns these cars tell me what its like to own, and possibly give a comparison between the two? And should I consider some other hot hatches, like the Fiesta ST or Mazdaspeed 3?
FWD conefagging rule of thumb: The lighter and the shorter wheelbase, the better.
Don't know how common they are in the states but a Mini cooper of some variation is a good shout, if you can get past the slightly odd interior they are much more fun to drive than a GTI or ST, can generally be found for reasonable money too

You should be able to find a good condition Mk7 GTI at the upper end your price point by now, and it's far superior to the Mk6 in almost every way.
I snagged a 2016 GTI S with 11k miles for $19k.
You'll want to go 2016+ if you want the MIB II infotainment with Carplay/Android Auto. Otherwise the 2015s are fine.
Tf do these hold value so well. Even ones with 100k are going for 20-25k+
Id love a Tahoe but holy shit how can I justify it.
By getting a used land cruiser or the Lexus equlivant. It's better in every way and usually cheaper
>>17696679
I know bro, I just bought a brand new premier edition Malibu for the same price as was being asked for a 4 year old LTZ with 80,000 miles. It's crap.
>>17697618
Yea I really want a Tahoe I like the 4runner as well but shit those are taxed even more.
>>17697595
WTF are you talking about. No they're not lol. In most cases they're being sold for a premium.
Why doesn't the 13B use rubber apex seals? It's pretty hard to lubricate metal-on-metal contact. And if the 13B knocks, the metal seal fragments will fuck up the interior surface of the combustion chamber. Why couldn't Mazda just use some kind of polymer-based seal?
Why doesn't the 13B use paper apex seals? It's pretty hard to lubricate metal-on-metal contact. And if the 13B knocks, the metal seal fragments will fuck up the interior surface of the combustion chamber. Why couldn't Mazda just use some kind of wood-based seal?
why it has no magazine with spirng pushing really long apex seal so you dont have to replace it every week?
>>17697157
probably because pushing the apex seal outwards would cause even more friction.
Hey /o/ just got my first car and parents offered up their speakers they never ended up using. I dont know much and was looking for an opinion?
YAY or NAY?
Better than nothing, but thats it
>>17696117
they were free so if they fit in the car slap them in till you get something better but i wouldn't put any money/effort into making them fit in a space not designed for a 6x9
>>17696122
this
>>17696122
Well what i want is subwoofers
is it me or are old people some the worst people to buy cars from?
>>17695920
I've had the exact opposite experience.
I bought my "93 AE101 (cleanest I've ever seen, 78000km) from some 84yo dude, nicest guy ever, and a genuine car guy. He owned a 335i and a 300CE.
We talked about the 'rola, and cars in general for about 30 minutes, after what he just gave me the keys and said "go for a drive while I finish cooking for my wife".
His only request was that I keep the St Christophe medaillon in the car. It's still there of course. Pic related.
>>17695920
old white people are some of the best people to buy cars from. they usually have enough money to do all necessary repairs so you get a car in better condition.
>>17696298
>muh AE

nice shitbox
Drove the Twingo meme, 1st gen. Fucking shit this car is shit, all pedals barelly seperated. Speedo screen almost unreadable while sun is shining on it. REEEEE
It's a tiny econobox that was produced in massive numbers and that can be picked up for like 500 eurobucks, what did you expect?
I really want the manual one of these that doesn't have a clutch pedal, let my friends drive it and watch them get confused
>>17695917
They're somewhat rare, because that transmission is shit.
Oil light turned on and I heard a loud noise, engine still ran but it scared me until I parked. Do I add more oil, then drive it to the dealership, or is adding oil harmful? Please respond.
What kind of loud noise? There's probably a serious problem with your car and it would be wisest to have it towed but why do you want to take it to the stealership?
>>17695813
I see anon, thanks for your input, I won't turn it on and try to ask around for someone who can change the oil. It was some sort of heavy rattling, went away when I slowed down but scared me nonetheless.
>>17695807
Check the oil level first and do not put in more than max. If the rattling still continues after that get it towed. What car and mileage?
I think there's something wrong with my flutter valve. It keeps making this strange noise. Also my muffler bearing is getting worn out and I think it's gonna need replacing. Has anyone had to do this?
>>17695429
You should replace your resonator fluid while you remove the axle dipstick to get to your muffler to fix it
>>17695429
Try pouring a bucket of steam thru your slave cyclinder
You're using the wrong motor oil. 0W-10 should do the trick. Don't worry about changing it again, this oil should last the life of the motor.
So I'm eyeballing this $1k Infiniti G20 on CL with 240k on it and "supposedly" no rust
SR20 with a 5spd and leather seats
I've yet to find anything on the internet regaling me with their common "if anything shit out it will be X" problems
Any AUS/EU fags have any experience with P10 Primeras?
I know the SR20 motor (and to a lesser degree the transverse 5spd they put behind(Next to?) them) are pretty much known quantities as far as reliability goes, but idk about the rest of the car.
>>17695152
look for a leaking power steering servo pump, they are relatively pricey here in germany, other than that, go for it.
planned to buy a 1994 primera 2.0 for just 600€, sadly it was gone two days after i saw the ad.
>>17695152
no. buy a mint one or get something else.
>>17696131
Apart from the mileage this one is pretty mint
Hey, /o/. I'm planning to buy a used (duh) Lexus LS 400. Is there anything I should pay close attention during the car examination?
>>17695092
What year?
Cracked EGR pipe, instrument cluster backlight, that's about all of the main stuff imo.
>>17695092
Starter motor
ECM module
Dashboard electronics
Buy it based on how well it was cared for. These are great cars. As long as it hasn't been owned by ghetto / barrio retards, you'll have a great car.
It's an old luxury car. It's going to have problems that are hard to diagnose, even if it is a Toyota.
What car do you think would be a good candidate for a Chebby v8 swap for a beginner at wrenching?
I'm looking for something I can make into a simple and stripped out hoonmobile.
I was thinking maybe an old Datsun or Porsche 944 but open to suggestions:
>rwd
>manual, no less than 5spd
>irs, or at least no live axle
>no convertibles
>$3000 or less for the car itself
>>17694999
None, buy a turd gen camaro, and build the 350 then boost it.
>>17695005
>no live axle

Answer
The one on the left came back from a 100 mile trip, it doesnt have anything(interior or engine bay) but it came with most of the parts including an engine which i later found out had a fucked head.
All thats left now is to lego it back together with the contents of righty
Fuck you stop making me want an old Z.
Nice car. Engine?
>>17694964
It's gonna this l28 most likely, assuming this one isnt fucked, I give it an 80/20 chance. If it IS fucked then I really dont know, but it would be something cheap.
You should definitely get one by the way, Ive dailied the silver one for over 2 years now with no AC down in south FL and dont regret it a bit. They're so much fun even when stock.
>>17694996
Why do you have aluminum foil wrapped around these parts?
Real cars have chins
>>17694699
Hey wait a second...
I want a 2002 so bad

Here's a funny thing: On German car classified sites, they refer to the car's first registration rather than model year
>>17694680
Only north america cares about that MY bullshit. Yuropean manufacturers mostly facelift once or twice each gen so shitposting about the MY makes no sense
Wait do you mean if a car was built in 1995 but sat on a lot unsold until 1997, it's considered to have started its life in 1997?
Seems tricky in terms of recalls
You looking for a touring to import, anon? Me too
WHAT THE FUCK IS THEIR PROBLEM
>gm sold opel and vauxhall
>canned some of their car models
>ford is killing off some cars aswell
>toyota and honda now focus on crossovers
>>17694266
The markets speak up itself. Then blame your dumb fatburgers, who buy a shitty crossovers/SUV
>>17694266
the market is soft, they are trying to consolidate into cars that sell. those happen to be crossovers and econoboxes.
bottom line people aren't lining up to buy new cars right now.
>>17694266
Niche Marketing is working.
