Why doesn't the 13B use rubber apex seals? It's pretty hard to lubricate metal-on-metal contact. And if the 13B knocks, the metal seal fragments will fuck up the interior surface of the combustion chamber. Why couldn't Mazda just use some kind of polymer-based seal?

why it has no magazine with spirng pushing really long apex seal so you dont have to replace it every week?

probably because pushing the apex seal outwards would cause even more friction.

imagine those red lines are channels cut completely through the length of the rotor and you have your answer. there are spring clips pushing the apex seals into the walls of the block as it is, but they could potentially stand to be a centimeter or so longer as long as rotor integrity isn't compromised.

actually i take that last part back, because i didn't think of what >>17697162 said.
