>really enjoy cars
>have thousands in mods on my car
>am also a borderline shut in and cheapass
>never can motivate myself to just go cruise because I just can't focus without a destination and see it as a waste of money
Why am I like this? I have a lot of fun driving it to work and doing errands, I just wish I could enjoy driving it for the sake of driving it

Just drive to some local twists
It's because you watch anime, stop and you won't be depressed anymore
has anyone got a ticket for going slightly above a speed limit? i went 45mph in a 40mph area today, and a cop sped up and i rolled down my windows. he just told me to "slow down bud," thankfully i didn't get a shitty cop. it's legit my first time being "pulled over" by a cop but statistically i guess it's bound to happen.
>>17704663
Writing tickets is a pain in the ass for cops too. As you experienced, if you were only go a little over, typically they will just tell you to knock it off. The only time I see tickets for slightly over the limit are for people who act like a jackass toward the cop.
>>17704702
wouldn't it be better for a cop to write out more tickets? in terms of quotas, and bringing in more money to the police department, especially in low crime areas
>>17705782
that's up to the cop really
where I live (not murica) cops only put up cameras and control people in areas with high risk of accidents
there are areas where people literally always speed and everyone knows that but accidents never happen so no one cares

Let's play a game, /o/.
Post a sound clip of your cars exhaust and other anons have to guess what you drive (make, model, trim - if applicable). Hard mode: correctly identify the make and model of the exhaust system.
how do you even record it? whats your setup? how do you avoid wind noise
>>17704486
i'll start:

>>17704495
just set a go pro on the side of the road and do some fly bys like >>17704497
or you can get a suction cup mount and put it on your bumper. no wind noise + all the exhaust sound
Looking to buy my first bike, I found one of these guys listed for $2996. It's a 1990 with 1200 miles on it. I feel like I don't know enough about anything to negotiate this. pls help
You're fucking stupid.
$3000 for a 27 year old dual purpose bike... no.
You could buy a DRZ400 for that.
Just don't buy a DR350... buy something more modern.
If the bike is in mint condition, it's maybe worth $1500 tops.
Next time go to brand and model specific forums, not here, and always post year/make/model in forum threads.
That is overpriced by 1500
I drove past a random garage/dealer that I never even knew existed today. The place had about 15 newer Volvos for sale out front, and about 20 other older Volvos around the yard that were either there for repairs or parts cars. As I was driving by, I noticed a 1st gen V70R right next to the garage door that seemed to be all together and in decent shape, not discarded off to the side like most of the others, and it was a 6 speed manual which I've never seen in a V70R.
I'm thinking about stopping by Monday and asking if it might be for sale. Before I do though, are these decent cars as far as reliability, cost of ownership, etc goes? It'll be my daily/beater, so I'm not super concerned about it being in perfect shape. A few problems here and there don't bother me as long as there aren't constant serious issues popping up.
>>17704101
from my experience with Volvo (which is limited to a first gen S80) they're super comfy, slow and decent handling money pits
I must've spent enough for a brand new Accord keeping that thing running over the years
My second girlfriend had a 2001 V70. She didn't know shit about cars, it has 250K miles on it, and when I met one of our first dates involved me putting about four quarts of oil into the engine.
But it ran fine and never needed any work other than interior trim parts and brakes.
>>17704131
The cost of repairs is what I kind of feared. I still think I'm going to go by and ask next week. I only put around 3,000 miles on my cars per year, so I'm hoping that'll help make the need for repairs less frequent.
Honest question seeking an honest response /o/
So I went for an afterwork with a colleague and I probably had 4 or 5 beers and in an unusual change of character I decided to drive home instead of taking a cab. Actually my first time driving (in 10+ years) after more than a half beer.
My problem isnt that I feel bad.
My problem is that it feels great.
It's fucking man vs. man vs. himself vs. god. It's pure unbridled fragile life itself man. It's knowing that any miscalculation could guarantee that everything you have worked so hard to build (career, license, marriage) would be washed away like the tide. It's like being Icarus and seeing how close you could fly to the sun. It's fucking phenomenal and it feels like I'm losing my v card, like I'm having my first glass of wine, like the first time I told my boss to shove it. It's liberation in 5 pint glasses. The feeling of freedom is amazing.
I know the horror stories. I know the jail sentences, and I know the consequences. It's like stealing that can of pop from the fridge when I was 8 and getting away with it and burying the evidence. It's fingering your girlfriend at 15 and wondering how far you could push it before she tells you no.
In a different life it would be heroin.
It feels like you're challenging god to an arm wrestle.
My question is... what do?

Don't drink and drive. It's selfish and you may hurt people and ruin their family's lives.
Trackers are nice though.

this, i miss my dad's old manual blue Geo. :(
dang you must be one sad individual to get so excited over something like that
you didnt even drink much
Hey lads,
I'll be spending some days in Las Vegas later this month. Are there any tracks near the city where I can rent a car (not a fucking lambo, a toyobaru could make the trick) and do a couple laps?

Toro

Ignore this post. Yeah there are tracks but fuck that shit, just street race

I'd do it, but I don't have a car with me (I'm a yuropoor)
How hard would it be to turn a Hatchback into a roadster with a removable hard top?
>>17703805
Not that hard, it would just cost you you dignity and manhood.
In other words, you're a faggot.

Where do you get your automotive news? I'm looking for a bunch of websites that accurately and quickly sends out the most recent news to the public. Ideally, it would be a go-to source for breaking news/information. I'd specifically like it to be technology, vehicle, and dealership news.
What do you guys do to get your info?

Turbo V6's are clearly better than V8's for track performance. Why would you want extra weight if you're trying to create a lightweight track vehicle?
>>17703648
Because that's kind of what American cars are all about. You buy German and you expect a decent to nice interior, some nice new tech and decent performance. You buy Japanese and you expect a whiny v6/I6 and a 99% chance for it to be shit with a 1% chance of being a god slayer. Buy American and you expect a boat anchor with a massive V8 that decimates the 1/4 but can't turn.

Alright guys. I have a 2001 Audi TT. The oil warning keeps popping up whenever I'm below 2000 rpm. I took it to my mechanic. We changed the oil sensor and oil pump. Gave it a good thorough check. Everything seems okay. Put it back together. And the warning comes back on. We don't know what it is. Would you guys know?
when a mechanical oil gauge is hooked up whats the reading then?
pull the pan and check the oil pickup. 1.8Ts are notoriously sludgy.
>>17703650
Well, we didn't. I'll check that out. Later.
>>17703653
We gave it a good thorough check. It was clean when we opened it. Cleaned it anyway and put it back together.
im fucking anxious to get a classic car but the safety features are non-existent or "youll survive in a vegetated state" kinda shit.
are there any custom auto shops or dealers that would sell:
*Telescoping versions of a classic steering wheel
*matching headrests for old leather seats
*those inflatable seat belts that Ford is fucking hogging ownership to
*all that but fitted for front and rear seat passengers
*and finally an add on like an under the hood bar or crumple zones so i don't fucking die in a 10 mph crash.
the best safety feature you can add to a classic is a big brake kit.
oh my god some shitty old cars had terrible brakes. not all, but so damn many.
brakes, sticky tires are best upgrades for any old car.

Grow a pair.
You talk like people were dying left and right in the 50s because they didn't have nonsense like "inflatable seat belts".
Why butcher a classic car just to satisfy your beta ass. Go get a new Honda jazz or something.
>>17703649
im talking about worst case scenario
i wont let my passengers die, and im not saying car crashes are no.1 cause of death.
i just want to live longer so i get to see my car longer

Each independent Company has its own catalog system, and most are easily accessible online if you look.
Realoem.com has BMW's, Fordparts.com has fords, Etc. Etc.
