So I heard from some guy that the US Military spent 17 million looking for a replacement for their Berettas and ended up going for the Sig P320. Is this true? Why did it cost so much? I thought that this sort of stuff wasn't particularly hard. I though that all you had to do was:
1. Tell the world you want a new pistol that fills x, y, and z requirements (most importantly weight, capacity, size, and chambering/ whether or not it can kill a pissed off Filipino)
2. Wait for literally everybody to send you pistols.
3. Test the pistols for endurance, rust testing, accuracy testing, torture testing and so on.
4. Narrow the list down to a small pool of candidates you like. If no suitable candidates can be found send criticism to the manufactures so that they can fix the problems with their guns. Wait for them to resubmit designs and repeat.
5. Troop trials: Give the pistols to some guys all over the military and get their opinions on them
6. If there are any problems repeat the second part of step 4.
7. Give the gun one final looking over.
8. Adopt the gun.
Is there something I'm not getting here?

Hookers and blow for the contractors.

Testing and trials take materials and manpower. Materials and manpower cost money. Also 17 million ain't shit for the armed services. Pilots have lost more money sneezing.
Yeah, in that literally every step of that process costs money, even if its just the salary of the people sending emails and talking to the manufacturers.
17 million is pocket change for a government program, they actually did pretty good.

Why does the P2000 seem to be the red headed stepchild of HK? People routinely talk about the USP, P30, VP variants but the P2k seems to never get mentioned.
Is their something wrong with this line?
>>34237016
Answer me plebeians
>>34237016
USP was perfect unless you wanted a 9mm. Everything else is searching for that level of perfection, for the 9mm.
idk, it has one more bullet than the usp and more in reserve, but the usp comes with a silencer. you can use either one well, i prefer the p2k myself.

Why aren't guns like the M3A1, STEN etc, being made for the civilian market in semi auto, closed bolt version?
I would gladly pay 200 bucks for one.
Idk if it would be worth it. The barrel would be 16 inches so that kinda ruins the compact part of the gun. It wouldn't be fun if it was just semi auto as well.
However, it might still be cheap to build but not a market for such guns
>>34236235
Could build em as pistols like the mac10s
>>34236214
Because in the current market, the Semi auto bolts are like $300+ by themselves
Quick /k/, you are kidnapped by aliens and forced to fight in and intergalactic gladiator show.
Your opponents are 50 angry Zulu warriors.
Your team consists of the complete Hershey Bears hockey team, 7 hot and dtf Japanese exchange students, one crazy Vietnam veteran, a black gay nurse, one fat biker, a tv repair man called Jeff and JEsus the gardener.
Match is to the death and you can choose every gear that is available in your planets history, but to keep things lively you are denied any modern gear and especially firearms.
The aliens make you team captain, what gear do you choose? How's it going down?
>>34236110
>modern gear and especially firearms
Gunpowder, ball bearings, a wide variety of metallic containers and plates.
>>34236134
>but anon, that is against the rules, gunpowder is absolute no go.

This, plus lots of sandbags, constantina wire, toe poppers and about x3 M240Gs with 5,000 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammo and a tripod for each.
Alright lads, just graduated from Uni and looking to join the Royal Navy, any recommendations on role choice? I'm thinking Training Management Officer may suit me

Marine engineers are in top demand right now and it is less cutthroat than surface warfare.
/k/ I'd like to improve my distance shooting skills, so I'm looking at getting myself a rifle to learn and what not on.
Shooting paper/ steel, so not really anything moving or need to "knock down", don't currently reload, but I'm considering it, so larger calibers aren't out of the question.
Thinking .22, Maybe .223, .308, 6.5cm, etc
Bolt action, or maybe semi, but I've got other rifles (AR's, AK's, a few fudd .270's but I'll probably just give them to my father).
Suggestions?
Also, general distance/ shitposting thread
>>34235577
.22 if you want to learn basic.
.223 if you want to grow into it.
6.5 once you know what you're doing or start reloading.
>>34235607
On one hand, I could always get new glass for one of my .270's because the ballistics of the round aren't bad, especially against paper.
But another rifle would always be welcome.
As for 22, 10/22 or CZ 455, or something else?
>>34235577
>Doesn't have a long distance gun
>Just some .270s

I recently acquired a Gewehr 88 that had been one of the many converted for the "S" spitzer type ammo. However I have read that the original spitzer ammo was only 158 grains or so and that 198 grain K98 and M48 type ammo can over pressure commission rifle even though it was "upgraded" to accept the modern 8mm.
I found this 170 grain Romanian 8mm, and was hoping any anons more educated then me in the topic could weigh in on if this would be suitable or not.

>>34235503
"S" stamped on reciever does not necessarily mean that the bore is .323 It means that chamber was upgraded to accept new spitzer bullet. Slug your bore. Back then when I was trying to find out things about my Gew 88 I read so much about this rifle and at the end, it's always "Slug the bore."
Btw my rifle has "S" and bore is .318
and I fired four .323 bullets before I found out.

>I have read that the original spitzer ammo was only 158 grains or so and that 198 grain K98 and M48 type ammo can over pressure commission rifle even though it was "upgraded" to accept the modern 8mm.
The original ammunition Patronen-88 fired a 227gr round-nose .318" projectile. This is 8x57mmI (I = Infanterie). Later the Germans adopted the 154gr spitzer .323" diameter S-Patronen.
>>34235734
The bore is .323, i'm just worried about pressure loads.
What could Germany have done to make the Panzer more effective against the T-34? It appears they put too much effort and resources into their larger tanks such as the King Tiger
>>34235492
Sloped frontal plate.
Lower copula
Gun Plate
Larger tracks
Simpler and cheaper construction
More efficient engine
Additional external fuel tanks
>>34235492
They could've put a long barrel gun in the 1st place instead of dicking around untill F2 came. Nothing more could've been done really. It hit it's evolution plateou. Later models supsension was already over stressed so putting more armour would make it less effective.
Germany needed new tanks, but instead of wasting time and money on Tigers they should've just invest and develp Panther.
It was lethal to everything untill late 1944 when is-2 arrvied and it was only on a eastern front. On west it was more than enough.
Being a bit of an HK fanboy (don't judge me /k/), I'm thinking about taking a plunge on an MR556A1. All I want to know is if the absence of chrome lining would affect the reliability of this gun. Would it be able to function as well in adverse conditions as the 416?
>>34235383
>Would it be able to function as well in adverse conditions as the 416?
No. But will it actually affect your shooting experience? Probably not. Privately owned guns are not going to get used and abused a fraction of what military guns get treated to, so you'll never get to the point of noticing the difference.
>>34235383
It's a shittier barrel as a result and a neutered version of the 416 overall. Buy an SR-15 or another high quality AR instead
>>34235383
lol enjoy overpaying 2000 dollars for a shit piston system grafted onto an actual good gun

will syria be considered a 'total war' by history?
civilian infrastructure is a target from both sides
mass displacement
indiscriminate ordinance use
towns and cities are leveled
>>34235183
No, it's a localized conflict. Some African nations have been at war for longer.
The Persian Gulf War maybe.
>>34235183
If B-52s aren't carpet bombing cities with napalm, then it's not total war.

i think it qualifies
I have a muzzle loader
ramrod cup end broke off in bore because of a thick patch.
I tried compressed air and it didn't blow out
I have one option and one option only, to shoot it out.
There's about a 3 foot air gap between the nipple and the ram rod (it's less than 5 inches from the muzzle), what kind of a charge should i put in?
You should try a fucking dowel
>>34235152

I'll be making fucking firewood out of that dowel.

Those fuckers are clearly selling it to the scrapyard for $1-$1.50/pound so they have money to spend in between social security checks. I seriously doubt any of them shoot 6.5x55 or 7.62x54r or anything that has any kick to it or is capable of actually hurting something other than a chipmunk.
