I'm thinking of joining up, most likely with the National Guard... Although, I have no idea what path I want to take. I have a history with computer science, but don't want to sit at a desk all day. Hoping the military and give me some sort of direction because I have no idea what to do with my life. What do you think?

Pick 1. From what I know NG doesn't do their MOS even the couple days they drill.

Guard does have full time positions. Mostly administrative shit, but still
im not really a gun guy, but why exactly would you tape the back of it, is it something about how you would get more control of the gun when firing, seems stupid though
>>34208558
white people put strips of grip tape (like from a skateboard) for better grip when your hands are sweaty
minorities use duct tape because well theyre fucking retarded monkey see monkey do

but hes a female ghost in a white mans body

They're bulking up and adding some padding to the grip so it doesn't hurt your hand as much when you shoot.
Do you still believe in the F-35?

Today is the 350th anniversary of the British equivalent of Pearl Harbor: The Raid on the Medway.
>Second Anglo-Dutch War
>be England
>suffered from the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London
>gotta mothball a sizeable fleet of ships because expensive
>put the vast majority of ships in Chatham, the primary English naval base
>eh, those silly Dutch wont do anything right?
>>34208430
>be the Dutch
>let's go fuck over the English really good this time
>figure out that they put almost all of the ships in Chatham
>to reach Chatham they'd have to go on the Medway river
>the Medway is a challenging river to navigate, now imagine doing this with a 17th century fleet and hope the English don't fuck you over
>seize the harbor chain fort that blocked the Medway
>encounter virtually no opposition all the way to Chatham
>Chatham has been reached
>tora tora tora.painting
>fuck over the defenceless English fleet badly
>capture several prizes, including the English flagship itself - named after the monarch himself, Charles II
>shoot up the surroundings, let the OG MUHRINES have some fun on the shore too
>leave without any problems whatsoever

We still own the decoration of the stern, its in the Rijksmuseum. Few years ago we loaned it to the Brits. Very impressive to be face to face with such a historical artifact.
What are some guns that are affordable and fun and also support cheap ammunition?
I live in US and all I own right now is SR22. I am planning on getting a Winchester 1897 sometime down the line. I would also like to buy a rifle with affordable ammo, and also a handgun to carry for self defense. I want to use these weapons for practice, home defense, and also hunting in the future.
I wanted to get an AK for the longest time, but it seems like the prices are very unfavorable with all the sanctions going on.
Please any suggestions as far as weapons/ammo and also gear for somebody starting to learn firearms would be appreciated.
Read the sticky.

That thread is still alive. You killed a thread to post this, which already has a thread.
Check the catalog.

The Portuguese AR-10 deserves it's own thread.

Chances are better than even that the thread this killed was garbo.
Hey /k/, Im also new to shotguns, just got a Remington 870. I also bought rifled slugs, and someone told me I shouldnt shoot them through a smooth bore barrel. I tried googling it but everyone seems to have a different answer. Should I use a type of choke on it? It came with two, one that says IMP CYL and another that says Full Steel Or Lead.
All I want to do is shoot slugs and shitboy target shot without having to change things in the field. Please help?
>pic related. Me and my bitch.
No choke with slugs. No need, and full choke could give you some real problems. You could possibly use modified choke, but improved cylinder bore or cylinder bore (basically zero choke) are preferred.
Rifled slugs are fine in a smoothbore barrel (that's in fact what rifled slugs are made for.) Sabots are okay in a smoothbore but cost accuracy.
Sabot slugs only (not rifled) in a rifled barrel.
In some limited circumstances, you can shoot rifled slugs in a rifled barrel, but (unless your rifling and the slug are compatible and the manufacturer recommends it) you'll cause unnecessary wear to the barrel.
Rule of thumb with barrels and slugs is that one OR the other should be rifled, unless you have a well-paired rifled barrel and ammo that both manufacturers give the OK on.
>>34208318
You can shoot slugs though a choke. The little grooves on the slug itself are meant so it can squeeze through a choke; not act as "rifling"

Awesome, thank you anon. Takes a load off my mind. Thank you again.
BACK TO RHODESIA
Every day, Zimbabwe's dictator Robert Mugabe gets older and weaker. Soon, he'll be dead and /our/ time will come.
Who here has military experience and nothing to lose? Reclaiming Zimbabwe might be just the thing for you.
Rhodesia shall rise again!

there already is a Rhodesia threat. But it's nice to see that someone saved my work

I really want a tomahawk
>>34208117
Am I retarded for thinking throwing could be a factor for a tomahawk?
I have a really sweet knife target, chain around a tree killed it, the section cut out grew into the chain, real thick. Miss the hell out of the tree but when it got cut down it still had the chain to suspend it and it's still there even dried out. I was going to fill it with a polymer or something and hang it, almost don't want to use axes against it because of how long it'd take to make a new one I was just going to stick with knives.
So buy one.
>>34208117
Make one.
s.t.a.l.k.e.r larp shit.
What kind of knot should i use if i want to put this spring-thingy into the handle of my monkey fist without it showing? I already tried box and cobra knots.
Why the fuck do you want to go and do a thing like that for?
Fuck off, diy don't want you and I sure as fuck don't want you!
Should a populations defence force consist of those who would make up the population that are willing to defend the society or should it be in a more warrior class that is always prepared to fight?
It's it worth paying those who would just end up abusing power and setting up a military industrial complex that eats the GDP and trys fucking up the rest of the planet just to make money or relying on a millitia system that is non expansionist and would probably be full of incompetence? Not to say that the current system is not full of incompetence as it is.
TL;DR Military industrial complexes are awesome.
Hence why China is trying to build theirs up as quickly as possible.
No room in the winners circle for hippies.

>Should a populations defence force consist of those who would make up the population that are willing to defend the society or should it be in a more warrior class that is always prepared to fight?
It sounds like you're asking about militias and vs. professional standing volunteer armies. To which I say the latter is always better, especially when coupled with selective service like the USA has in case a major war occurs.
Military Industrial Complexes are underrated anyways. I mean, frankly, it's the Military Industrial Complex that has given us the near global hegemony we have today. Sometimes stupid shit like the Iraq War happens, but then we also have fun stuff like the Korean War which gives us new allies and greater influence.
And while a militia system in an armed nation like the USA would probably be eventually capable of making any occupation not worth it after a while, that doesn't mean several nations wouldn't try and bring lots of destruction and misery to the nation, or that other groups such as ISIS wouldn't try to hurt us.
/k/, I have a need for your slavaboo knowledge... Looking at buying a mosnin nagant rifle from a friend for around $140. He bought 3, never touched this one, and is ready to sell it to me. It's a 91/30, and my friend believed it to still be full of cosmoline. If I inspect it before purchase, which I intend to do, what things should I look for that will determine if the rifle will go all pipe bomb near my face? (pic kinda related...?)
>>34207390
$140 for a garbage rod if its in the cosmo still is a good price. Just buy it strip it fully, and have fun.
I have 2 mosin nagants, took a long time to get cosmo out of the barrel. Discovered my one was counterbored, but its a good shooter.
>>34207448
He says it's still in cosmoline, but I still haven't seen the gun yet, just talked to him about it this morning... How would I check to see if it is, indeed, still in cosmoline? Does it actually matter?
>>34207390
Try to push a 7.62x54r cartridge bullet down into the muzzle to check the bore, check the rifling, inspect the locking lugs and the lockup, etc...
Pretty basic shit really.
Somebody shared a view with me the other day and I'd like to know what /k/ thinks. I'm paraphrasing here:
The material wealth of all humans on earth has increased so dramatically during the past few hundred years that people now have a higher material surplus than ever before. The advent of technical knowledge combined with this material wealth means that restricting rudimentary mechanical devices is damn near impossible. In the 16th century, the production of firearms and many other armaments was owned and funded almost entirely by state entities. This is partly due to the fact that precision metal production was only affordable in a collective market and partly due to the state's own efforts to monopolize power. However, in the 21st century people can print their own plastic tableware, run a backyard metal forge, or produce their own chemicals. The attempted regulation of weapons production in ancient times is documented in many places. Roman provincial authorities wanted to restrict certain groups like Germans and Jews from having the ability to make edged weapons. Their efforts were frequently foiled as the materials and knowledge to use them were present. In the next hundred years, the ability of states to prevent the building and use of firearms (a rudimentary mechanical device from the industrial revolution) will be reduced dramatically.
Furthermore, firearms are a durable good. One that can last essentially forever with basic maintenance. Firearms are more common among civilian populations, including Europe, than they ever were. Proliferation is taking place whether governments like it or not. The logical conclusion of this is that ALL states will eventually have to concede that firearms are a part of society.
>>34206913
They haven't conceded that drugs are a part of society.
>>34206913
you dont have enough pin holes anon
>>34206945
A. Drugs aren't a durable good.
2. SOME drugs (alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, prescription medication) are.
D. Laws are becoming more lax.
