If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.
Anyone got any good books or infographics for faces?
this book is pretty good
Andrew Loomis, my guy. He's the fucking master
I'm wondering what you guys think. I'm trying really hard to reach professional levels,
So on a scale of Newbie to Amateur to Professional looking, what would you say?
(Let's say Newb is 0-4, Advanced but not pro is 5-7, and Pro is 8-10.)
And if you're an artist, can you tell me what I did wrong or how I could make this look better?
(It would be great if regular people/non artists answer too because an artist can tear anything apart, but the 'first reaction' of a non-artist is in some ways more valuable to gauge where you're really at.)
Note: I tried this post earlier but I made the mistake of using an unfinished sketch, so a lot of people rating me down because it wasn't a complete work. This is a complete panel, with full color so maybe that issue won't come up.)
Having said that, I did get some great critiques on my sketch that I put up, so I don't regret it.
>>2849056
I think this is better than the sketch you put up earlier. You should only put up finished work if you want an accurate opinion on this kind of question. Otherwise you're question should have been is my sketch as good as a professional's sketch. Apples and oranges.
you could probably earn $5 per hour by drawing pictures of kids books on payperhour etc. if you're desperate. But I think you have to whore yourself out to the max if you want more.
If you have dignity or want to improve,
I recommend you look at the sticky and lurk
your picture looks like those bad "how to draw anime" books westerners make

What's your goal OP
Are you going to do comics
>Tfw no matter how skilled I get I'll never make anything meaningful that actually affects people.
Maybe that's what talent is?
But but muh fundamentals...
>>2848509
>making anything meaningful that actually affects people
1. You lucked out and made part of some movie/advertisment. Congratulations, you now made a piece that will be remembered for years - disregard that you only drew like 2 frames/concept art that maybe will be featured in "Art of X" (but probably not) and you are as important as 200 other people who did the assets in the background and hair on the 3D model of rabbit cop.
2. You are a hack YouTuber/meme teacher like Loomis/Vilppu/Watts and you branded yourself as super skilled fuck and other guys praise you and your skill because of 3 amazing FREE(tm) WIPs you made and which reached 50k views. Congratulations, you know influenced dozens of d/ic/ks into learning "good fundamentals" from you.
3. You actually worked your whole life as gallery painter, met with other artists like you, lone fucks with small families living boring life with no particular wealth. You are respected or mocked among your peers, but you have your name out there and critics have to write about someone and you have 3-4 spots in gallery here and there and sometimes sell a piece. Congratulations, rich fucks like your pretentious art and if you luck out, your wife will die out of cancer, your son will suicide and you will be murdered by your neighbor like BeksiĆski and people will make a cult following out of you, a movie and memesters and edgy fucks will repost 5 of your pieces that don't suck completely into oblivion.
>>2848509
What do you define as meaningful anyway? Popularity? Unmatched technical skill?
In my opinion we should just try to focus on doing whatever is pleasing to ourselves, not others.
please critique
this is painting u like.
>>2848376
Stop trying to replace the merc_wip with your shitty cup drawing. Saged
>>2848459
lol actually what?
Its really boring
How do I achieve this level of artistic sophistication? How many hours?
>>2848185
Post yer werk fegget
for a complete beginner i would say about a week

>comparing yourself to JK200 himself
48 hours a day, 14 days a week.
Question for any oldfags on this board, what was /ic/ like 10 years ago? I've been on 4chan since 2006, but I didn't start coming to /ic/ until 2010 or 11 and I was wondering what this board was like back in 4chan's heyday.
>>2849459
What was /ic/ like back in '10?
>>2849459
what if we can never know because theyve all made it and left?
it's okay my style? or i need to change many things like anathomy or realistc draw style?.
also if you have any critic or advice please let me know.
PD: it's one of my oc's
You need to show us fully rendered pieces and at least ten-twenty of them for us to judge.
>>2849433
yeah sorry for that , here is my tumblr accout, dont follow if you want.

If you're looking to a be run-of-the-mill Tumblr cartoonist, you still might need to learn a bit of anatomy and gesture to get a grip on how the human body works. Other than that, if that's your pursuit, then there's not much to change about your style. However, if you're looking for actual, financial success as an artist, you've got a long way to go. Try reading the sticky.
What do 30 second gesture/figure drawings train?
I'm asking because I found this site that curates a set of stock photos for you to draw within a set time limit. Seems kinda neat.
Link: https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/#
Trains you to capture a drawing in 30 seconds instead of being a slow printer that takes hours.
>>2848999
makes you faster, time is money, maintaining concentration is time limited, improving your ability to capture landmarks, gesture, and proportion
>>2848999
Forces you to capture the essence/gesture/action and not get caught up in contours and details. Don't worry about making it realistic or "correct" necessarily.

This is just* on the video editing skills here, nothing else.
Research the lives and memiors of the Wehrmacht more firstly. They did not have a fun time serving.
Nazi ideology ordains that they had innocent times ripped away from them by their enemies (the great depression), and they must take it back.
Anywho, this board is for actual artwork.

are you 13?
Can you earn good money on making webcomics? Do you know any successful webcomics?
>>2848291
Like anything it's up to the individual. It's more about updating consistently and building a following, do you have the discipline to do that?
>>2848293
I have been thinking about doing that but I dont know if its worth it. Sure it could be fun but at the same time I need to get at least some money from it. Would love to see webcomics that earn dosh for creators.
>>2848301
I mean, you can check patreon, but I can guarantee that most projects:
>Have several years worth up updates
>Active on social media/network at cons
>Generally pleasant
I don't think you can expect a profit right away, and comics are definitely not a get rich quick scheme, so do it if you think you'll enjoy it. Know that you won't make living wage solely on your webcomic now or ever.
At the same time, having a project like that under your belt can open new doors for you or opportunities you wouldn't have had otherwise. It's all in how you want to invest your time.
If you want short term gain, webcomics are probably a dead end, if you take the long game, it's probably worth more to you.
Also consider what's most creatively satisfying.
ITT post two numbers:
>hours you've been on 4-chan today
>hours you've spent practicing today

Do I just suck?
I've been drawing all my life, with art study basically just limited to online tutorial videos. But I see people younger than me making better drawings with better styles. Attached pic is a five-minute sketch, but it just looks bad compared to other sketches you could find anywhere. Answer me honestly: Should I give up?
>>2846271
>Do I suck
Yes
>Should I give up
That's up to you.
>>2846272
I guess the question was less "should I give up" and more "can I still improve?"
>>2846277
Everyone can improve. Stop trying to find excuses for not wanting to draw. If you're this much of a crybaby then drawing isn't for you.
What's the hardest perspective problem there is in art?
Someone on here once said black people can't wrap their heads around complicated perspective, but it's something that I believe the average person can master.
>>2849298
Perspective is easy. The hardest part is setting up a grid. The rest is super simple plug n chug tactics.
Curvilinear perspective is a bit tougher, but it can be eyeballed more.
Then there's stereoscopic perspective, reverse perspective, infinite-point perspective. There was a funny pic about it too, wonder if I can find it.
>>2849364
>hardest part
It's not even hard, it's just time consuming as fuck.
>>2849366
True
I guess I meant it's hard to remember all of the different terms and what the process is to get to them. When you're a beginner of course.
After a while grids become natural and it'll be ingrained in memory.
