Advice on selling physical painting pieces?

How do you sell a physical piece made with acrylic paint? 1. Should it cost more if it's made with a canvas? Should I paint on something else is people want to frame it? 2. Is there a difference in quality from a store-bought canvas and doing it yourself with gesso paint or whatever?
3. How to paint the sides, if painting on a canvas?
4. What do you spray or lay on top of the paint to make it last? Or that doesn't matter?

I'm lost. pic from google

also interested in a good answer to this.Plus how to ship shit.

I see so many mediocre artists selling oil paintings for 500 plus on Etsy to normies

Would be sweet to do oil studies to improve and sell them on the side

I've google'd it, but it always comes up with "TIP OF HOW TO SELL ART: GET YOURSELF OUT HERE! DON'T GIVE UP!" as opposed to how to physically take care of the product. :/

Do you think you've arrived at some great insight realizing that if someone draws exclusively in a style that doesn't require them to draw detailed noses or lips, they probably can't draw detailed noses or lips?

It's about as silly as seeking out someone who spends all their days drawing trees and asking them to draw a motorcycle. Or a guy who exclusively does figure drawings and demanding he do architectural sketches. No shit, genius.

Even then, most of the truly great anime artists have studied realism to a decent extent and CAN draw a nose, lips, etc.

Hey B/ros, beside "get good", do you have any advice for good hatch / crosshatch? What are you using for these hatch and how?

Always take the form of what you're hatching into consideration (i.e don't use straight lines to hatch rounded forms like muscles).

Well you could use straight lines as an aesthetic choice, but most people would find that it looks shittier and flat. Could be useful depending on what you're trying to convey visually.

If you scrub through this video are the dolphins done well? Some of them are done in paint and the others are ones I have transfered over to Comicado.

Bullshit and bullshit.
Peter han is popular but sure as hell isn't a good teacher. He's simply known for his "skills" but there's far better teachers in that subject.

Patrick Ballesteros is a better teacher and no one attends his classes. Also, lately CGMA has been hiring random youtube heroes. Only a matter of time till they hire Proko.

Is it worth the money?
Read up on the "highlight students" or whatever it's called on the main page. They all get asked why they join CGMA and it's usually because they lack discipline. There's no need to waste your money if you're aware of this site (ic) and go to cgpeers. Get involved in a group, there's actually some really good artists here who hang out in some of the discord groups.

Also, seeing the "students work" is just as bullshit. They'll display work that wasn't even taught in that class (like how dynamic sketching 1 has animals in the folder, yet they dont teach you how to draw animals and even Peter's lectures explain how you should avoid drawing animals for now). And it won't turn you into a beast of an artists. If you were shit week 1, you will be shit by week 8.

pic related, im a student.
>>
>>2845215
But if you are drawing on your own anyways then having a teacher critique your shit is useful right?

Or let's assume someone has an extra $1k/mo to throw at CGMA classes. I can't imagine it'd hurt to spend the money on those instead of art books. Professional critiques are probably the most valuable resources for learning--and an 8wk class typically hits about $700 which seems reasonable.

Is it that you don't like the critiques, or don't like the teachers?

What are your thoughts on teaching your kids to draw at a higher level from a young age? Do you think it's realistic for a kid to be able to draw like the one on the right (say in, I dunno, first grade) when most of their peers are on the left? I'm really interested in passing what I know early, but not positive they would be able grasp it so young.

It is if you're able to isolate your kid from society fucking them up with YouTube and other fucking dumb kid shit. Just live in the woods and get them to draw from life for fun and it'll work. But most parents can't control the environment so usually their kids are fucked up beyond their teachings. It's hard to teach a kid to draw in this day and age because they're impatient fuckers who want instant gratification from the Internet and store.
>>
I have a nephew, 4yo, and he likes to draw. I tried to teach him a bit of really basic construction drawing, like using two ovals to draw a perked bird, and it kinda worked, but he was a bit frustratred.
So I guess it depends with the age. I wouldn't bother with basic fundamentals for a kid at least until s/he is about 10-12. Before that just encourage the kid to have fun with drawings.

or maybe normal children throughout time have preferred (and needed, cognitively) play time to study and grind.

Hello, I wonder if the style in the drawing comes up alone or do you have to force it?

And how do you know how to differentiate a style in a drawing from a bad practice?

Sorry for english, Google translate.

>>2846786
All 'style' is bad practice. It's unavoidable to develop crutches as human beings, we're imperfect and our understanding of certain concepts can only go so far. It's the imperfections in your art that determine your style.

Why do you /ic/ turds think you need to draw 16 hours a day otherwise you'll "never make it" and "lazy"

Drawing 16 hours a day if anything will lead to mindless practice, carpal tunnel, and burn outs especially when you're a beginner starting out.

It's one thing for pros to go 12 hours a day(and even then it's probably unhealthy) but because they've been drawing for a long period of time, they've been able to adjust their bodies to it. It's like working out, you can't expect some obese 400 pound fuck to suddenly start training 16 hours a day and not expect any detrimental side effects.

Here is an article that discusses my point in more depth: http://www.bulletproofmusician.com/how-many-hours-a-day-should-you-practice/

16 hours allows you to complete a whole lot more of a drawing than any other amount of time. Most paintings would take you up to 20 hours, but at least with 16, you'll be 80% done. If you had to do a piece that took 5 hours, now you've got 12 hours to do other stuff. It's a very flexible amount of hours to work with. Working with 1 or 2 barely lets you experiment. 16 gives you near absolute freedom.
>>
Reminder that 4 hours of figure drawing complemented with 4 hours of specialized study is more than enough once you've learned the ropes.
Also make sure you get up and walk around every 30-60mins. Set a timer and keep to it.
Spend one hour exercising each day.
Be sure to go outside at least once each day.
Drink lots of water and do your hand/arm, leg, and neck stretches.

You could do 4 and 6 too depending on what you want to achieve/learn.

Getting good shouldn't cost your health. A healthy body promotes healthy thinking. Healthy thinking leads to creative problem solving. Problem solving leads to finishing goals.

Stay motivated my bros.

We aren't fucking robots. Drawing more hours isn't going to guarantee more productivity. When you draw 16 hours a day what's likely going to happen is that your first few hours will be productive while the other part will be unproductive, in other words you won't be learning shit.

Worst case scenario, is that consistently drawing 16 hours a day will lead to 100
% productivity because you're so fucking burned out.

I'm sick of all this bs information that's spewed on /ic/. Moreover art isn't life, art is the EXPRESSION of life. If you don't have a life and all you fucking do is draw, what the fuck do you plan on expressing?
