/ic/ you're minding your own business at a live model drawing session and this guy comes to your easel and snaps all of your charcoal pencils in half.
>what do you do?
>>3042707
ha, trick question, I don't do live model drawing sessions in my basement
>>3042707
suck his dick and ask for more tutorials
Is it possible to be too good looking to go to life drawing sessions? Whenever I go, the models always give me too much eye contact and smile when I look in their direction, it's awkward and I just want to draw.
we need to figure out the optimal routine to gitting gud. how many hours of sleep? what foods help art gains?
ya'll need 16 hours of drawing everday in yo lives
>>3042947
i've noticed a big boost in energy when i improved my sleeping habits
sleeping schedule: wake up early (ideally before 9 am) and make sure you get 8 hours sleeping time
as for food just dont eat/drink too much sugary trash and try to eat proper meals 3 times a day
also try to get some exersize once in a while, i 've been slacking on that but i usually ride a bike to the store so i guess that counts
so basically, healthy body- healthy mind- better art gains. sitting the whole day in your mancave grinding art is a good way of losing your mind and not getting better at art desu
"You" are trapped in a machine that functions autonomously from "you", but its condition will also affect how "you" feel. So keep maintaining the machine so your "you" feels good.
Treat food like medicine, it's primary function is not entertainment/pleasure. There is such a thing as "correct" nutrition, your body isn't up to much interpretation.
Optimally, try to eat a good solid breakfast that will keep hunger until lunch. Lunch should be your lightest meal as to avoid crashing during midday which should be your most productive time. Value high protein foods, they'll keep the hunger away the best.
Active lifestyle choices/light daily exercise will keep you alert and awake. If you ever catch yourself crashing at your desk, go for a light jog that wont take everything out of you. Consider a proper exercise routine three times a week.
Many artists, me included, feel that they get most of their "creative juices" during late at night, but relying on something like that is just dumb. So figure out how much sleep you need, and follow that (I need 8 hours, for example, so I aim to go to bed at 23:00). Cheating on your sleeping schedule is BAD long term. You may do it for short term gain (deadlines for example), but always try to revert back to your standard routine.
Try to draw everywhere, don't be shy about sketching in public. Unlearn the need of having to "settle down and prepare" to draw. This will lead to procrastination.
Limit your other hobbies (that contribute little to your artistic efforts) like, say, competitive gaming. I allow myself an hour and a half of competitive gaming a day, which started feeling like plenty after I got used to it. Inspiring hobbies like reading, movies, walking etc you can be more free about.
If you're anything like me, these will apply to you. But they are demonstratively NOT objective as I am not a pro artist, while there are plenty of successful people who, eat shit, barely get any sleep and don't exercise.
Is there anyway i can make it if i've been born, raised and have no plans of leaving a 3rd world country with no job opportunities for artists?
Should i just try my best and take advantage of the internet age or would it be better to chase after more advanced countries with better job opportunities for artists?
Does it even matter?
Nope.
>>3042855
living in a third world country doesnt make impossible or even unviable becoming a competant/skilled artist
however being genetically a third-worlder does remove the viability to adhere to classical standards and also to create instances of aesthetic beauty or nobility.
tough luck.
>>3042862
Genetically? Seriously?
I'm still gonna do it until i die but, y'know, It's a little discouraging to think it will be for nothing in the end.
What is your favorite artists that specializes in landscapes and environments?
I see a lot of artists that get posted here usually do portraits/figure. Not saying one or the other is better, I just want to have a larger pool of great artists to learn from.

Feng Zhu
He is a god.
nope. but i am.
>>3042199
Nope, God would say that he's "just" a hard working chinese human... Worship your maker, and only you maker!
>>3042199
watching his demos recently made me realize how dumb i was for having so many brushes.
he only uses 2-3 basic brushes and just hand paints all the smoke/metal textures/etc. what a god.
There's a saying I once heard and it goes if your relationship ship is like a bowl of cereal would you ever get tired of eating the everyday for the rest of your life? I've thought of this saying for so long and thought of it in a bad way not realizing I was misinterpreting it but instead
Our relationship is the bowl and this milk that that I will continuously fill after it starts to get low is our love the new and different cereal are experiences that we will both
What does /ic/ think of this poem thing I made for my gf of 2 years as of today, I wanted to show her but idk I'm kinda embarrassed and think it's dumb/cheesy/corny idk should I show her?
come to face together as I hold your hand throughout whatever lies ahead of us in the future, I love you so much
>>3045057
OP, /ic/ is for critics of User-created artwork but only for visual art. You would have a better luck on /lit/, for sure they must have a poetry thread somewhere.
is there an ic discord server
>thinking people from /ic/ are good company
>>3044385
Discord kills every active community so no
>>3044398
we should make a discord specifically about op then. it might motivate him to kill himself.
is there a reason to watch proko any longer? there are plenty of other alternatives instead of this embarrassing hack
>>3043705
here's a question. how the fuck does someone do this?
because imagination drawing is not that hard once you reference the image once or twice or 500 times, y'know. and im not trying to be sly, because 500 is not a big number. for how experienced proko is, how does he fuck up so monstrously?
>>3043711
How often have you seen proko drawing a kangaroo? Why is it so difficult to comprehend the fact that you get good at what you do, imagination is no difference. Proko is an excellent intructor who knows how to explain concepts well and has a decent understanding of anatomy, i'm sure he would have done a lot better if he was drawing a human figure from imagination.
>>3043718
well fuckin exactly
why would he do a session on imagination drawing if he clearly had no fucking experience in doing so?
Pic related is mine
Something dawned on me the other day. I'm a quitter. When things get hard, I run away and do things that are easier for me. It's like this in all areas of my life and it translates to art as well. The times I remembered when I improved the most in art where when I got out of my comfort zone and did things that were challenging for me.
When I first starting learning the box and anatomy, these areas were so difficult that I wanted to give up at first, but I pressed on for some reason and I was able to make tremendous progress. But for the past year, I've completely comfort zoned by only doing unfinished anatomy sketches, which at this point, is very easy for me.
I'm not saying i'm a master at anatomy by any stretch but my brain doesn't hurt whenever I do figure drawing like it used too. The areas that I struggle with the most are perspective, color theory, values, creature anatomy etc, but the reason I don't tackle these areas as much is because whenever I do, my head starts hurting again but it's way out of my comfort zone and then I rationalize myself by saying that, I should learn anatomy instead because it's more important. Unsurprisingly, this quest for perfection in my anatomy sketches has also led to be my biggest downfall because my progress right now is very slow. In fact, my skill level right now is indistinguishable from a year back.
TLDR: Practice things that you find boring and difficult, when you do things you really enjoy, you won't make much progress. And don't rationalize yourself by saying you aren't good enough to do certain things due to a lack of skill.
Anon, I find that you just have to make the leap.
Lachri explains this very well:
https://youtu.be/_jWTSQhG-TU?t=18m10s
For you, I feel like a big reason you are finding things to hard, is that you might be trying to tackle these things on your own, like you do with figure drawing. You don't follow a tutorial for figure drawing usually, you just start applying learned knowledge as you draw figures. But for things like line coloring, values, and perspective, you will find that copying others/ doing tutorials is what will propel you forward.
And I completely understand the boring aspect. For example, you are probably starting out with boxes for perspective. Well why not just leap to what would interest you and try and do anatomy and perspective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJWLaDSNBAI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP06EHog8B0
You might be surprised that not only are you still learning basic box perspective, you are able to do the figures you like to do so much too. And because you are challenging yourself, you'll notice improvement.
You can improve while making art you like if you don't suck. Youre going to dislike your old art in 6 months anyways so might as well pump out challenging pieces.
Just go out of your comfort zone if you have art block. Like instead of plants, draw machinery, or calligraphy. I feel like you can practice channeling into your creative zone if you get elastic with it.

This.
Does listening to music decrease the efficiency of drawing?
I don't know how it will in any ways.
I'd rather be blind than be deaf!
Yes/No
Does it work for you? If so - Yes
Does music not cut it for you? If not - no
l m a o s m h t b h f a m it's subjective
yes
you need to focus as much as possible
rather to train for 1 hour with full focus
than for longer only going on 60 percent capacity or whatever
Critique my shit pls
>>3042316
its shit
>>3042316
Post in the draw thread you fucking goof.
I don't see many people posting a thread with their stuff here, is it ok if I do that regularly or are you gonna get annoyed ?
pic related, it's my latest drawing, what does /ic/ think ?
>>3044589
>I don't see many people posting a thread with their stuff here
excuse me but are you fucking blind?
>>3044599
I'm looking at the front page right now and there's like two threads with someone's work, including mine. The rest is either unrelated or drawthreads.
>>3044601
yes the draw threads are here so not every fucking artist spams the board like you do
also your drawing is shit
Critiques please
Can a mod ban this attention seeking faggot already?
>>3042191
Troll thread. Pls ignore this guy.
>>3042194
Nope
Ever notice how most art made by celebrities is dreadful? It's the laziest shit you can find. No knowledge of the fundamentals at all.
It really shows how much harder it is to git gud at drawing/painting than it is most other creative endeavors.
Kate Micucci.
Bob Dylan
Jeff Hardy
There should be a rule within draw threads that keeps a person from posting unless their post is a.) helpful, and b.) contains their own art.
What say you /ic/?
>>3044591
Hm. Hm. Very interesting, but it has nothing to do with my question.
>>3044593
It answers your question anon.
